Destiny 2 “Last Call” Teaser

Hoping for a single player campaign. There was sort of something resembling one in TTK but too short.

Don't hold your breath for a PC release. I've read the rumors but I don't believe them. But hey if it actually happens it will be a pleasant surprise.

What is different for that vs the rest of the game? I played through the entire game at launch by myself. How was TTK more single player? After the fucking I got from the game at launch I refused to give them more money as I didn't feel that I should have to pay for a story that should have been included with the initial cost.

It has something resembling a story and narrative by Mr Fillion's character. And different maps to grind on. If you can find it for $10, go for it.

Well, to be fair none of the Destiny trailers had gameplay. They're all live action and/or CGI.

So... I keep hearing they confirmed a PC release? I didn't see that in the new trailer. There's usually logos of the various systems in the last few seconds of game trailers. Is it on their website?

About what I expected. Now, I get to read countless posts about everyone elses unreasonable expectations are not worth $60 or something like that.

As a PC only player, can someone who played it on console give some details on this? From everything i researched it seems A LOT like Warframe. Instanced missions, lots of grinding, loot treadmill. Is that about right?

Never played Warframe, but sounds about right.

Well Warframe is crippled by microtransactions and time limits. Destiny has ways of gathering loot aside from the typical grinding. The gunplay in Destiny is incredibly smooth and the PvP is actually pretty fun. The story and environments were well done for being as short as they are. I had about 30 hours in it and thought it was worth the money.

Tempted to pre-order the game, though the son had it on PS4 and he wasn't completely thrilled with the game after the first month. By his standards they made a lot of frustrating mistakes and it just wasn't that much fun to play and became just a mindless grind at times. Rumors so far abut D2 is they are righting all the wrongs though I worry that they will get swamped in PC support issues or get take forever to fix them. Probably wait to see if they offer the beta on PC and give it a spin, hate to spin $60+ on another dud game

Was there something about people who play/played Destiny getting in-game rewards in Destiny 2? Like what happened with Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2? May pick up the super bundle. And sign up for PS plus.

Having played both? Yeah it's an mmo lite, just like Warframe.

Yea pretty much, but I'll shed some perspective. Calling Destiny a grind is honestly I think one of the most exaggerated things out there. Now I can understand why people who are used to traditional FPS games calling it a grind, but for someone like me who has played lots of MMO's it really isn't. Luck and RNG do play some role in destiny, but the loot pools of a given mob are so small that you would have to be super unlucky to not get anything for a long period of time. In an MMO raids can last hours, require dozens of people to coordinate, months to master the event to take down and then loot tables can be so large that you might only see 1 of a particular item over a 6 month farm assuming 1 week lockouts. In Destiny raids are an hour tops, perhaps a few hours or even a few days to learn, requiring 5-6 people and loot tables are such you likely won't go more than a month or 2 tops before getting the item you are after. Also everyone gets a drop every run vs your typical mmo of 24 people on a raid and only 3 items drop. So from my eyes, calling destiny a "grind" is laughable at best. The only ones I ever heard whining about it were pure console FPS players who didn't really understand the whole raid/loot thing to begin with.

eh, your explanation is like saying that being sodomized with a spiked bat doesn't hurt if you like stapling your nuts to your leg every night.

Yes it might not be a horrible as other true MMORPG games. But it still requires you to play an area over and over and over to get items. I think I played through the first boss area at least 200 fucking times. It doesn't matter on the degree, if you have to play through an area over and over to get items that you need to do something with you are grinding. You are not able to just start the game and play from the beginning to the end without replaying an area or just sitting there killing wave after wave. Now once you get the higher levels and get through raids that might not be that bad, but to get through the early levels (unless they changed that during a expansion) you had to put time into trying to get stuff to level up. I spent more time trying to get my character leveled up and quest completed in Destiney than I did in FFXV to get my characters to all skills maxed out.

See the thing is, I don't consider the grind horrible or even a bad thing. To me it would defeat the entire purpose of a game like this if you got everything you wanted the first time you ran it. Now some MMO's take that to the extreme and it does become a huge pain in the ass, I'm just saying that comparatively speaking the grind in Destiny was really tame. I played through the bosses hundreds of times as well, but mostly due to the fact that I enjoyed the game and was either gearing alts or helping others out. I had my gear long before I hit those numbers. As far as the comparison to FFXV, well first that is a single player RPG and a different thing entirely. Secondly well..the leveling and maxing out of characters in that game was a joke even by FF standards. Apples to Apples though Destiny compares to a modern MMO the closest as far as how loot is handled. In that comparison, honestly the gear grind really isn't terrible. You should be able to have just about everything you want in less than 80 hours barring really unfortunate RNG or continuing to raid with stupid people.

not sure if serious....

Destiny is fun but if grinding is something you cant stand, then doing the same instances over and over with different random groups hoping for loot or upgrade parts might be a turn off to you.

I don't mind doing instances for loot. The grindfest I'm referring to is having 10,000 quests of killing 10/20/30 of something, then running to an NPC and turning in the quest so you can move the story along for the next five minutes of actual story, and repeat until your sanity shatters.

If you can find it cheap, like under $30, sure. It's worth it to play it through completely once, the grinding is really only for end game raid content which I skip every expansion and then do the last expansions raid when everything is weak and easy. The game plays like Halo so if you were a fan you would probably love Destiny.

I liked Halo, so I may consider it.

find the taken king edition for cheap and its worth it for sure, I really enjoyed leveling my characters up and playing through the main stories. Game has great shooter mechanics and feels very good to play, its only the endgame that becomes a grindfest (unless you enjoy PvP then its fine)

Grinding for loot is a tolerable grind for me, as long as all the other garbage is at least worth selling to an NPC like how it was in Diablo 2. I've been burned out on MMOs where you spend hours slaying monsters in the instance, destroy a boss that can wipe maxed toons with a couple hits if you're not paying attention/lagged, and you all get to fight over a stick when you were hoping to get some decent gear.

Well Destiny is neither an MMO or an RPG, so I think you're good?

I like RPGs, just not mindless grind RPGs. FPS-RPGs are fun, I just don't like the grindfest crap that is plaguing MMOs and certain RPGs.

There has never been a better time to get into it. Mainly because it's actually a complete game now. It launched 1/2 complete and they've been adding lots of (really good) content to it over the last 3 years. At this point it's a pretty great game. I wouldn't suggest trying to get to light level 400 or anything like that, but it's well worth playing through all of the normal content and dabbling with the MP stuff.
You can probably get a bundle of all of the content for what the game cost back when it launched. It has hundreds upon hundreds of hours of stuff to do if you want.

As far as the genre goes, it's a little bit Halo and a little bit Diablo. It's more shooter than RPG, but there are some very clear leveling and loot elements.

Having played both I do have to say I'm interested.

If you aren't thing to min/max...Destiny right now is a GREAT game. Just play through in the order of expansions and the game will make a bit more sense.

The artwork is great (for how old the game is) and the gunplay is fanastic.

You can always play the missions by yourself or with up to 3 people. For a couples game..it is fantastic since you resurrect either other.

The game also makes you "feel" powerful. All three class are pretty well rounded and can be played "defensively" or "offensively".

The PVP is pretty good too. You should average a 0.25 KD even if you suck.

The RAID's are well done but I would wait until you have command over your class.

the Reddit community is FANTASTIC. It is about a low toxicity as you can get consider how much of bitchfest cesspool most other games are.

If you really like lore..the grimore's of destiny are depth beyond depth. The game itself is pretty much a one page overview while the grimores is a multi novel of knowledge and depth.

I'm really just looking for a game that's fun and where I don't have to do poop collecting quests just to advance the story.

Loot grinds are different than quest grinds for me. I was loot grinding hard on Diablo 2. It was still a fun game in that getting certain drops felt like an achievement, not a necessity. The only time gear grinds were out of necessity was if I was seeking to do a particular build. Even then, all the garbage I collected along the way was at least worth some decent gold, or easily traded to people who needed the gear with those stats.

What I loathe are the quest grinds, where you have to repeatedly kill the same monsters over, and over, and over again, so some old bastard can pay you money, give you XP, and you can now advance about 5 minutes further into the story.

And if you expect a grind of any type that is fine. As for the comparison, I was just trying to pick a single player RPG to say that is something that has no grinding vs something that has at least some grinding to show that it does have at least some grinding to a point. No, it isn't anything too extreme. but as somebody that doesn't play MMO games, it was definitely noticeable playing the game that I had to go grind some. Although bad luck was part of it also as I almost never got any of the higher level drops. I never got myself a purple for every slot or maxed out my light level. I just got blues all the time.

i'm guessing it's not gonna look much different than the current game since it's on the same hardware, but i'm sure they will tighten up the shooter play. I didn't play the first one but maybe someday it will make it's way to pc.

It isn't. It is launching on xbone, ps4, and PC. Destiny 1 launched on xbox360 and ps3, eventually porting but not changing much to xbone and ps4.

I'm guess you might be wrong. They had a lot of legacy support to the PS3 and XBOX360. Second...they said its coming to to PC dude. =:woot:

I enjoyed Destiny while I played it. I bought it 2 months after TTK was released and played quite a lot every day for about 3-4 months. I stopped playing around April of last year, only because I didn't have time to really keep up with the light levels anymore. I could get the new expansion and continue, but I think I'm done with Destiny 1 for now. Looking forward to Destiny 2 though.

For PVP how do they deal with the fact that it's an RPG so some people will be uber geard and some ppl have nothing? Is it like GW2 where you go in an arena and everyone gets a similar level or is it like the division with gearscores? or is it like BDO where low lvl ppl just get raped?

A little of both. From what I last remember there were gearscore brackets and your gear would get boosted to the highest in the bracket. Weapons still had their own individual stats such as accuracy, RPM, damage per bullet and mag size. But most guns all fall within the same Time to Kill speed. Almost all snipers are 1 shot headshot kills and most semi auto rifles are 2-3 headshots. There's not a HUGE advantage to being top geared but it does make you feel a bit more powerful with certain guns than everyone else. To balance it out there's PvP only accquired gear that's on par with top end raid loot but was only effective for PvP and did lowered PvE damage I think.

TL;DR You could join a PvP battle with all white starter loot and still hold your own if you're good enough. If the other players are E-Esports, you will probably get destroyed. But that's what MMR is for.

Cool good heads up on that. If I can get D2 for cheap I'll probably give it a shot.

- To elaborate a bit on this for Destiny 1 -
Note: This information may not be relevant in any way for Destiny 2 -- Only time will tell

Light Level: This is a combination of your base level of your character and all of the weapon/armor level score

PvP
Certain optional time limited game modes such as Iron Banner (once a month or so) and Trials of Osiris (weekends) were light level considered. If you were too far below the light level "curve", you would do peanuts for damage and be killed mercilessly. Trials of Osiris is considered the pinnacle of competitive Destiny for your average player outside of sweaties. These events could provide high end gear that rivals any of the PvE gear that can be acquired.

Regular PvP was normalized for light level. i.e. If everyone had the same weapons, you would do the exact same damage and take the same amount of damage per class. However, if you are a fresh character you lack a number of skills (jumps/grenades/class specials) that are quite useful in PvP. A skilled player can overcome this deficiency through sheer gunplay skills, but you are better off in most cases to get all of your abilities first. You can technically level and get these abilities through PvP only (I did it a couple of times).

Bungie had a habit of creating a "weapon meta" that shifted fairly regularly. Many options that were previously viable would not have a competitive time to kill after a patch. This could be fun at times, but you tend to get killed by the same weapons over and over again once people adapt to the new meta. They never did manage to balance it in a way that all types are just as viable, and I am not really sure that was ever a goal. They even mentioned on Reddit that they anticipated each weapon type to "have its time to shine".

PvE
This is largely limited by your base level and story progression for the entry level content in the game. Additional content such as strikes, nightfalls, and raids had level and light level requirements. In many cases, you would need to run missions (mostly strikes) to get your light level up far enough to be able to enter the nightfalls and raids. If you are good enough at PvP, you could also increase your light level with gear from that to enter the nightfalls and raids. Over time, Bungie was much more generous with light level drops from PvP content.

Epilogue
With all of this said, I can definitively say that Destiny has the best "feel" of any shooter I have played in a long time and I put far too many hours into it. I will be picking it up for the PC and hoping that the community is as strong as the PS4 community for Destiny was. I absolutely loved PvP in Destiny, and I really hope they saw the light and add dedicated servers for Destiny 2.

No, it was released on the Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360 all on the same day. I bought the Xbox One version as buying it on the Xbox One gave you the Xbox 360 version for free.

Ah yes you are right my mistake. Still had that last gen look to it though. Not worrying about a previous gen can certainly open the door if they were to take advantage of that

While it wasn't exactly a huge WOW on new generations, it did look better. I used to jump back and forth between the two just to be an achievement whore lol. As I could earn achievements on the Xbox One, then jump over to the 360 and have it realize I did what was needed for the achievements already and pop them there also. There was a difference between the two, but correct it wasn't anything that I recall being to massive. That said they did split that down the road, as the last few expansion didn't get released on the 360 or PS3 so they might have reworked the graphics a little then also since they could then drop the code needed for legacy.

From what I remember, a huge chunk of the story in Destiny got cut for some reason. I remember reading what it was suppose to be, and how it seemed much more interesting.
