Senate Votes to Kill FCC's Broadband Privacy Rules

Which part of "Senate votes to kill FCC's Broadband Privacy rules" did you misread? This situation has yet to involve the POTUS. Also, the FCC hasn't become non-existant yet with one reversed decision but nice try with the hyperbole.
The FCC Chair is a major proponent of this bill. He wants to end net neutrality and eliminate most (if not all) regulation on telecom. And the POTUS is going to sign this.

I'm so not surprised that not many republicans bothered to comment in this thread. Bring up Facebook and its privacy issues and data collection then we have a problem. It would be pages and pages of what we should do to Facebook. We all toe the partyline these days.

Edit I like it. My negative comment elicited two immediate responses that otherwise would not have posted. Exactly.

Not really. I voted Trump, but wouldn't have if the communist party would have put up a middle left candidate who had a moral compas. Clinton, hell no. If the republicans screw with us much more, kiss them goodbye in mid terms. But I still don't want the far left or right candidates. They are shit..

Ok.
Does that change anything about the title of the news item or its content?
No. It does not. This is the SENATE's vote, regardless if the FCC Chair has anything to do with it. The Republican controlled Senate may vote the way the FCC chair and how the POTUS wants simply because they are like minded politically, but the topic of the thread and article still don't have anything to do with them yet, just as I pointed out. And as I said in the post that you are quoting, this still hasn't involved the POTUS. When he signs this into law you can be mad at him. Until then, focus your anger at the Senate which has the power to do anything about this right now.

People crack me up with this constant misdirected bashing of POTUS when most of the hate needs to be directed at Congress. I watched it with Clinton, GW Bush, Obama, and am now watching it with Trump. It's almost as if we don't teach basic government fundamentals in this country.

The Democrats are bought and paid for by the Corporations as much as the Republicans. They don;t really care about the poor. They just don't make it as obvious. The past three months, their unwillingness to challenge a lot of things and just accept that the people want a government that works for them and not the Corporations pretty much proves this.

The only way to break this cycle is to keep voting for anyone but the incumbent. Might take a few elections but if they realise (both R & D) its the 99% that gives them the job they might start responding.

True - we are a corporate oligarchy. You always know the people who are still programmed by their corporate overlords, as they are the ones who will say "damn republicans" or "damn democrats" when the reality is, they are hand in hand behind the scenes - it really is about Globalists vs the regular people.

Not to mention, those willing to throw stones at a particular party over another tend to be flaming hypocrites as their own party tends to do the same thing. Take the R and the D away from the name, and not much difference.

We don't. Colleges now may as well be globalist indoctrination camps. MSM only pushes agendas, and for those saying Fox News, WikiLeaks exposed them as mostly controlled opposition. Everything is being shoved down people's throats as an agenda.

And Progressive Politicial Correctness has gotten so out of hand that Conservative populism is actually becoming the counter culture akin to Punk Rock in the 80s - people are getting so tired of being told what they can or cannot say without being labeled an -ism, -ist, or -phobe that Gen Z is pushing back hard, even if it is for no other reason to rebel against the power - there is an Anti-60's movement in the works, and frankly, an anti-hippie movement that the election just touched upon. If you thought the past 12 months were nuts - you ain't seen nothing yet...

The normal people in the middle (middle class) haven't had a party for a very long time.
Sure they do. They joined the poor about 10yr back or so and either aren't aware of it or are in denial over it. Too many people see themselves as "temporarily embarrassed millionaires" IMO.

Not to the same extent so the end results and policies they'd enact would be quite different. Yeah plenty of money would (unjustly and unfairly) be funneled to the rich by any Dems right now but they'd also throw the public some bones which is more than you can say for the Repubs since at least Reagan.

The past three months, their unwillingness to challenge a lot of things and just accept that the people want a government that works for them and not the Corporations pretty much proves this.
LOL they've been doing tons of stuff. They're the minority in both houses of Congress + don't have the Presidency so what are you expecting them to accomplish? They can accomplish virtually nothing other than delaying things a bit which is what they've been doing by and large.

The only way to break this cycle is to keep voting for anyone but the incumbent.
I largely agree with this but I'd add one thing: don't just vote for anyone other than the incumbent. Try to find someone who has actually good policies that will really help people instead of vague platitudes and good speeches.

It's cute that some of you think this is a partisan issue...two sides of the same damn coin.
The Dems actively pushed for more protections for consumers and put regulators into office who tried to push for more protections too. The Repubs are undoing all that here so giving one side all the flak is perfectly reasonable here.

It's cute that some of you think this is a partisan issue...two sides of the same damn coin.

How many democrats voted for this?

This 'both parties are the same' attitude is the problem. I get it, nobody likes to be wrong. You may disagree with democrats on some things, but this idea that the parties are identical or equally bad is a mix of conservative propaganda and rationalization. Apathetic voters have no power.

Trolling

Follow your name and shut your ignorant mouth

No democrats voted for this damn bill

Who put the regulations in place that stopped this practice? DEMOCRATS

Who took the protections away? The fucking Republicans.

Who pushed for giving health coverage to tens of millions? Democrats

Who's doing their best to take it away and let the poor die? Republicans

The two parties are diametrically opposed. Is that a problem? Yes, very much so. In the meantime, anyone who says this or healthcare or most any other issue is not partisan... get your head out of your ass and educate yourself

Well done!

I expect nothing less from our lord and savior.

G.....G..........

PS: funny to see how people still defending it somehow...

I seriously wonder who really believe in the words from a person who practically spill bullshits. Maybe they want to watch the nation burns? Or simply because alt-rights? :mask:

It's truly sad when the POTUS lies every day. No one will know when he's telling the truth. How will our soldiers know they're being given the correct information. When we, the people, are told why we have to declare war on another country can we really believe what he's saying?

These are truly fucked up time we live in...

I can only hope he's somehow removed from office sooner rather than later. I don't think the world can survive 4 years of this...

Yes but 9 times out of 10 they will side with the corporates (rather than 10 times) who send them the 6 figure cheques than the folks that voted them in. When you watch the town hall meetings for both R & Ds you see them looking to the sides of the stage almost asking "What am I meant to say that won't offend my corporate paymasters?"

I do finally hope that the US population is finally waking up to the fact that those folks in Washington really don't give a damn about them. However, as it has been said, the US public does have 99% of the vote...at the moment.

I think it's better to look at it as Republicans v. Republicans Lite. I mean Wheeler was appointed by the Democrats, but he was a former lobbyist for the cable companies.

As for health coverage to tens of millions of Americans, that's a RIGHT WING plan. Who did that first? Romney! It's a plan straight out of the Heritage foundation, which as right wing as it gets.

It's all right-wing policy now, the only debate is on the nuances. Are they different? Sometimes. Are they DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED? Hell no. Democrats are for boiling a frog slowly. Republicans are for boiling it quickly. We're the frog.

Sure and I'm not defending that. I'm pointing out that while they're crap they're still better over all than the Repubs who are at this point actual IRL Captain Planet Villains in terms of actual policy they're pushing.

If you try to wait for the perfect bunch of candidates to get into office and push for the policies you want you'll be waiting forever.

He was actually willing to fight against some of his (now) ex-cable biz buddies though. Yes I would've preferred someone else but Wheeler did actually turn out to be OK for a former industry lobbyist and I'm one of the guys who was very pessimistic about him at first.

Its more of a retread of the Repub plan in the 90's under Gingrich that was offered up as a alternative to Hillarycare than having anything to do with Romney's plan. And yeah Obama has said multiple times that in terms of policy he is essentially a 90's Repub more than a classical Dem much less a Socialist or Hard Lefty as he has been portrayed.

I'd point out though that many Dems in Congress did want to go Single Payer/UHC (it was to be pushed as Medicare-For-All). They went with the PPACA because that is what they thought they'd be able to get through Congress quickly but that turned into a shitshow thanks to the Blue Dog Dems like Lieberman who ended up getting mostly voted out in 2010 anyways.

Currently the corporatist/Conservative/3rd Way Dems still have major sway in the party but with HRC gone there have been a lot of changes recently.

Are they DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED? Hell no.
Hahaha dude you have no clue how bad the current Repub policies are if you're saying this. And that is all without getting into details of what guys like Bannon or Pence want (hint: they're Dominionists) to do. Dems are shit right now but they're at least actually interested in trying to help people. Current Repub's would happily impoverish the entire country and wreck its infrastructure if it meant they could lower taxes. Look at what Brownback has done to Kansas for a example of what they want to do.

I guess the good news is I just bought a year's worth of subscription with a reputable VPN service.

Opera browser has a built in VPN you can turn on and off. Now whether it works correctly or not is another story, but yes I'm starting to VPN most on-line stuff.

I guess every fucking body got paid off on this one. How the hell could this happen any other way.

As a non US person looking at the US is like looking back 70 years ago. Shit the rest of us got sorted after the war, your folks are still arguing amongst yourselves about.

The politicals decided divide and conquer was the best policy to distract from whats really going on which is basically wholesale grand theft from an entire population. The rest of us in the West need to be careful and watchful though as its creeping across slowly but surely.

Social security isn't fiscally responsible. But then again our government in general hasn't been fiscally responsible for a while now. Thanks to both parties to one extent or another. And also we have ourselves to blame to some degree.

Oh I agree. It's a SS is just a legalized Ponzi scheme that collapses when the GDP doesn't grow enough as is the case with baby boomers. But 1/3 of all Americans have nothing saved for retirement, and they are counting on social security to help them out not realizing social security is only designed to replace at MOST 40% of your income. For many of these people, cutting benefits at this later stage in life is tantamount to going from likely poverty to guaranteed poverty. They planned their lives around the fact social security will be there. It's not fair for the government to change the rules mid to late game for them.

My only possible fix is to

1) Up SS Tax by 2% (1% employer, 1% employee)
2) Slowly reduce expected retirement benefits to those 18 and younger over a 50 year period. So those born in 2067 would earn no retirement benefits when they retire in 2132. As the benefits (total payouts) are reduced over time, the tax taken out over time can be reduced.

More people will start using TOR now. I can see this as very bullish news for privacy coins like dash, monero, and so on.

Except TOR is slow as hell and uses packets which are easily identifiable by the NSA/CIA/FBI. Use of such software gets you stuck on a watch list (Snowden papers).

Given how the government can circumvent all your protections, I wouldn't want to invite them to do so by using such software like TOR.

Any reading on this stuff? Need to get a bit granular with some of this stuff.
