GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Discussion Thread

Got my 2 1080's in today. So far I'm loving them. Played bf1/tf2/SW battlefront mw2 and some crisis 3. Ran benches too. So far so great. Pic taken before install at kitchen table.

So, playing Titanfall 2 single-player (highly underrated game IMO) and the system froze. No crash, nothing. Just locked up. The 1080Ti and RAM are the only recent changes. Ran 3DMark, Time Spy, ect... no issues. It stayed like that for a minute or two until I hard rebooted the system. The only OC was on the CPU @ 4.6ghz and now I have dropped it back to 4.4ghz. Temps looked ok but I will say this 6700k runs hotter than my old 4770k by about 10-20 degrees. CPU and GPU on same loop. Time to separate them? When I rebooted I got the following error?

After dropping the CPU OC there hasn't been any more incidents. So far. Here's hoping that it was as simple as that.

Turned on the on screen monitoring in MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner though. GPU temps reached around mid 50 to 60s. CPU climbed up to the 70s though.

Whats rads are you using?

Dont really remember what my 6700k runs at but prob tops off around 50s overclocked at 4.8ghz.. my 2 1080s at 2190 run at 37 and 32c i believe durring games.

I use dual tripple 120mm fan rads from ek.. there like 60mm thick.

All on a single loop using a single pump.
 
What is eveyone using for stability testing their 1080ti overclocks? I've been running a mix of Heaven and Timespy, and even fired up star swarm just to see it on the 1080ti, but I'm sure there are better things I could be using. Currently at +150 / +400 and everything is running great (so well that i feel like I must not be pushing the GPU hard enough)

Those are actually pretty good stability tests, I'm doing the same thing. But of course nothing is better than just playing your favorite games. Got mine to 125/400 with 110% power. In SLI, that's about the limit of noise I'm willing to accept with the stock cooling.
 
Yeah just test with some games that are known to put some good stress on the card.. like witcher 3.. 3dmark firestrike should do it to.
 
For those of you who ordered through the Nvidia store, how long did your order take to process? Real anxious to update my two 780's to the ti.

Ordered in the morning, got the shipping notice that night, received the card the following afternoon.
 
Awesome. I ordered mine first thing Saturday morning once I caught it in stock. Hoping the card is delivered tomorrow.
 
You think Aftermarket coolers (like the ICX) will be cheaper than the founders edition?
 
Personally I wonder how much CPU bottleneck I would have with this and an i7-4770K at 4.4 GHz... My target would be 1080p (preferrably with some DSR) @ 144 Hz (or at the very least above 100 Hz). My 980 Ti is still pretty good for 60 Hz.
I am CPU bound with my Titan X in quite a few games at 2560x1440 on an i7-4770. In those games I'll try to DSR up to 5K. If I don't get at least 50 FPS average I'll bump it down to 4K.
 
Looks like I'm topping out at +155 / +535. It runs at 160 / 550, but I get minor artifacting and bechmark scores decrease from 155/535. +165 crashes to desktop frequently, and flashing textures appear heavily at +575
 
So far I'm at +150 / + 350. I haven't pushed my cards farther than that.
 
So what do you think of the noise levels?

My CPU cooler is louder than my video cards. I get pretty low ambient temperatures in my office. I'm not having to run the fans all that hard to keep the thermals in check. Again, my CPU cooler is louder than my GPU fans are. I've been pretty happy with this cooler GPU design since it was introduced.

Has anyone had Time Spy complete one test but then fail, typically with a 0 score, because it fails to load the next test in the sequence?

What causes this?
 
OK. So would everyone here say that a pair OC'd GTX 980Ti's in SLI would approximate a single OC'd 1080 TI? I've been looking around comparing TitanXP benches against 980Ti SLI as there isn't much about a direct comparison. If so, I may just make the swap just to help minimum frames @1600p/4K DSR.

Anything would be insightful =)

From what I've seen that's about right. The other benefit being that you won't be shit out of luck when a game doesn't support SLI very well.

Whats rads are you using?

Running a single XSPC RX360 but I just ordered another XSPC RX240 to go in there as well - it was as big as I could go with my case. Replacing reservoir and pump while I'm at it.

Update on this. I set the fan to 100% while I was away for dinner and I seem to be stable at 160/545 for 4 hours now just letting heaven run. Even with the fan at 100% it wouldn't stay stable at 165/550, and honestly the fan is too loud to be set to 100% all the time. I might even be able to up the gpu to 162 or 163, but I think the quieter fan is the right call at 155 / 535.
 
Anyone here already do the evga 1070/1080 hybrid install for their 1080Ti? I should be getting mine in sometime this week and am wondering if I should wait for the official one or just jump in and get the 1070/1080 hybrid kit. How do the vrm get cooled with this install?

I have a few older games I want to catch up on, so this should hold me tight until Vega. However, I also have a few other systems (one with a Titan XP) so it's not like I'm hurting for performance. The 1080 Ti is still the best buy right now for pure performance.

BTW, if you already bought a GeForce GTX 1080Ti from NVIDIA directly or one of their resellers you've already supported them. NVIDIA got their cash for that card and it impacted their sales figures. You don't really support AMD more than NVIDIA by keeping cards you've already bought.

Yeah, totally. I get that. I basically have 4 computer systems in use (completely unnecessary but I just like building computers and playing with them) and I told myself I would maintain 2 Intel/Nvidia systems and 2 AMD/AMD systems. Just to keep things fair.

I don't get playing fair with businesses. They don't do it with us. Personally, I don't give a shit who's card I use so long as the damn things work. More often than not I've used NVIDIA cards, but that's just how its worked out with NVIDIA dominating the high end for so long. In a few cases, I tried to go ATI/AMD with no success thanks to fucked up drivers. I had a pair of 4870x2's and two 7970's. I ended up having to replace both sets with NVIDIA cards because of Crossfire issues. I still have that Radeon HD 7970. It's been used on most of my motherboard reviews for the last couple of years.

I think we all want competition to spur innovation and to keep prices in check. But in a free market, buying a product to support competition for the sake of supporting competition? That's just not how it works, nor could most afford that. Back around 12 years ago, most of us rocking Athlons and Radeons because they were at the top, they were good products. I'll support competition when you have something I think is worth my money.

It's just been so long since AMD has had lust worthy CPUs, Ryzen is good but not great. And now a year into pretty much abandoning the high end GPU market? AMD is just not doing what it needs to do for the higher end gaming market right now.
 
I just want to let you guys know that I hate all of you :D. I've started my EVGA step-up process for one 1080ti and ordered the matching card from Newegg. Looking forward to it (but not quite the [H] FS Thread / Craigslist selling of my other 1080). 1080 SLI -> 1080TI SLI - maybe not the smartest but hey it's fun.

Always fun if ya gots the dough to burn!

Leave the stock baseplate and backplate on, as well as the stock shroud. You're basically using the AIO cooler from the hybrid kit but not the EVGA shroud. This is what I plan to do when my hybrid kit arrives on Wednesday.

MSI Afterburner can act really funny in a number of games; the one that I personally have had the most grief with (multiple BSODs, and even straight reboots) was Grim Dawn (which also played havoc with my Sound Blaster X7 LE). Ditto with Afterburner's rivals (Zotac Firestorm, ASUS GPU Tweak, etc).
For Grim Dawn, it got to the point where some players thought the game itself was at fault, until one determined player showed that it was an Afterburner issue.
That having been said, Grim Dawn is an awesome game, and everything Diablo 3 should've been.
 
So guys w/ 2 FE in SLi. How them temps?

Well so far I'm just running mine at stock but with precision running and using the default aggressive fan profile as I usually do the temps have been great. Under the heaviest load I've seen so far they have been mid ish60's to high 60's.That's running fire strike and heaven multiple passes and playing a bunch of games at 4k maxed out. Bf1/swbf/crisis 3/tf2/and mwrm. Haven't had time to do much else so far. Today I'll get a chance to play some more games and mess around more.
 
Some interesting results testing overclocks.

My card is stable at +120MHz/+470MHz at 50% fan.
I found that core clock speed jumps in 13MHz increments. +120 is the same as +114MHz. The next jump of 13MHz comes at +127MHz so have now set it to +114MHz.
Increasing fan speed hasnt changed the maximum stable offset value but it does change the clock speed a lot...

For each +4C change in temp, clock speed will be reduced by 13MHz.
ie boosting the fan speed and dropping the temp by just 12C can give you an extra 39MHz.

To further this, increasing the voltage can increase the clock speed a few bins as well, without changing the MHz offset.
Setting my voltage to +50mV had a small effect on temps but gave me another 39MHz.
Setting it to 70mV had enough effect on temps to bring that down to +26MHz.

The same changes applied to my old 980ti but there was much less variation.


Interesting for my card and perhaps for others.
Once I found my stable +114MHz at 50% fan speed, I have not been able to increase this going up to 75% fan speed.
The clock speed increases with lower temp and/or increased voltage but if I change to +127MHz it will crash soon after (when under test).
It looks like they have got the MHz gradients for temp and voltage change practically bang on.

I dont recall the 13MHz jump over only 4C temp change though.
 
I don't get how you guys are seeing such low temps with OCs. I'm running Stock FE cards, max power and temp limit and my cards hit 80C.

What are you ambient temps of those guys who are seeing 60s under OC? /confused.

Also, any word on the Time Spy error I've seen?
