Previous reports concerning a remaster of StarCraft and its release date turned out to be total bunk, so you may read this news of the game coming this year with heightened skepticism. It’s only March, however, so there is plenty of time for this to happen. The remaster should be near-identical to the original aside from higher-resolution graphics.

South Korean website Sports Seoul is reporting new rumors concerning a supposed remastered version of the original StarCraft that Blizzard would be preparing to launch this year. This new version would implement high resolution graphics and update the Battle.net service, with the objective of promoting the game in eSports circles. The information would come from sources in the industry, that got a heads up from Blizzard itself during the past BlizzCon game festival in November. The details of this remaster would have been revealed only to personalities involved with eSports, such as broadcasters, sponsors and important stakeholders.

Do want. SC2 was OK (though I thought the quality of the series varied a lot between releases), but SC1 will always be the better to me. I'm even admittedly terrible at MP on it and still like the game.

As a previous National Team player in StarCraft 1 this really excites me.

Tons of people still play Brood War in Korean eSports circles. This could make a big comeback everywhere else too. Love the original, glad to see them bringing it up to date.

This would be awesome. I'd be happy if they somehow do this in the old engine... but I think I'd be fine with them doing this in the new engine - if just about everything plays the way it did before (supposedly that might be the case) - Id be okay with a bump in the AI for the computer players though... or maybe an option to enable the original AI or switch it up to the SC2 AI... or something. lol.

Anyways, it would make me happy. SC was the last game I ever purchased at a midnight release.

Want to play through original Star Craft and Brood War campaigns in Starcraft 2, you can already do it for free with the SC2 starter edition (free)! Here is the Wiki page about it (Mass Recall). There are some minor differences, but from what I've heard it's a very faithful community recreation.

The other day I was looking through a old album of CD and DVDs I had packed away in search of my Napoleon Dynamite DVD; and found my StarCraft install disc and a wave of nostalgia overcame me. It is still my all time favorite RTS game. Yes it was limited in scope but still some of the best story telling, best MUSIC, and MOST FUN of any game I've ever played.

This rumor has been going since even before SC2 was released.
There is already a SC 1/broodwars mod (Mass Recall) which I downloaded a couple of days ago. I kind of like it, but I've only played the terran campaign so far.

What's the point when StarCraft 2 is available? Though I admit, I give zero craps about StarCraft.

Give me a remastered version of Total Annihilation, please.

They aren't the same game? That's like asking why we want a Morrowind remaster when we have Skryim/Skyrim remastered.

I don't believe it. Blizzard's CEO and COO said at Blizzcon last year they where not into remastering games I know I was at the panel. Also they keep the original StarCraft up and running, so at most this is a Win10 compatibility patch like what they did for Diablo 2 last year.

There's no need for a win10 patch, it runs just fine.

They have a Blizzard Classics division that their whole job is to maintain the older titles on newer hardware. Considering its age I am sure there are a few bugs that could be straitened out. I personally have not played it in years. Diablo 2 was probably the one that needed fixes the most since it really wanted you to use a 3dfx card and well those haven't exactly been a thing in a really long time.

Rather have a nice shiny new StarCraft 3 with an original StarCraft mode in it.

I installed it last weekend and I didn't have any issues. Haven't tried multiplayer though.

Why remaster Total Annihilation when you can play Supreme Commander? :D
