Hi Guys,

My current setup is this one:
  • i7 4930k @ 4.5GHZ
  • Corsair Dominator 2133Mhz 9-11-10-27 (16GB)
  • EVGA Supernova 1600w T2 (Titanium)
  • Single R9 290x
  • Mo-RA3 Pro , Feser 240, Feser 360 and Feser 480 X-Changer Radiators
  • 3 x MCP 655 Pumps
  • lots of SSDs

I currently have triple 1440p monitors (1 x Samsung U28D590D and 2 x CrossOver 27Q-Led-P)

Yesterday I decided to buy a GTX 1080ti because I was tired of waiting for a GOOD AMD offering (Sold 3 x R9 290x 1.75 years ago waiting for next gen cards, and now I'm running on a single R9 290x)

So I bought the GTX 1080ti along with a waterblock and a NICE Asus PG348Q (3440x1440 at 100hz)

Should I get another GTX 1080ti ?

Is my 4930k at 4.5 ghz fine for the next 2 years?

Your CPU will be just fine. I personally think the ROI with SLI is too low to bother with, especially when some games don't support it at all, which has been happening more often the last couple years.

I run a PG348Q with a GTX1070. While it's great for most games, some I really have to turn down the settings @ 3440x1440. The GTX1080Ti would be absolutely perfect on it's own.

Thanks for the advice.

Thank you, I expect and WANT to retire that CPU in less than 2 years so short term is fine for me.

I share your concerns. I have an X34 and Titan XP and not all current titles can maintain 100FPS maxed out. I am considering getting a Ti, since its the same chip as the Titan and SLIing them to prepare for upcoming demanding games. But as RamonGTP said, support has been on decline nowadays and it seems like Nvidia is moving away from the technology as well. 3 and 4 way are hardly a thing anymore.

Be careful! I don't think you can SLI a TItan XP and a 1080 TI.

oh ok.

Only AMD supported Xfire from different models with same chip, like HD 7970 xfire with HD 7950.

I used to run 2 x 5850 and 1 x HD 5870 in Xfire.

Why not use the 700 dollars you're going to spend on a second 1080ti & buy a new processor? And then use the money you get from selling your current cpu/mobo/ram and buy a second 1080ti?

Or just save the $700 since a new CPU isn't going to net him much for games at that resolution even with a 1080ti

I'm with you there. I went from 780ti sli to a single 980ti and couldn't be happier. Things seem to have gotten far worse since. DX12 isn't helping things.

If anything read up on sli scaling with the games that you play. Then decide if it's worth it for you.

I'm in the same boat. I'm running a 3440x1440 monitor with a 980ti and don't have the urge to upgrade. I would imagine that a single 1080ti would put me right where I want to be.

Be very careful about going SLI. Make sure the games you are playing will support it. 1 1080 Ti will be fine for 3440x1440. Your CPU is fine too.

I went from 680SLI to a single 980Ti and feel the same. It's a shame too... Even todays games at 1440p, it would have been adequate raw GPU power. But I was either limited by lack of SLI support or the 2GB VRAM or both.

This would be a good editorial piece, but SLI is possibly at its worst state that it has been at in years scaling wise. I really don't know why this is the case, since there had been so much headway made into frame pacing and other metrics that should have at least bumped up support. Instead, it seems to have driven people further away, as we have also watched the scaling drop significantly. Look at a game like Witcher 3, that has TERRIBLE scaling with a second card, a game that was a real argument to why you need a second card to get that performance you demand. The microstutter isn't always there, but when it is, god damn is it fucked. If you love PC gaming more than anything, buy a second card, if not, you're literally not missing anything owning a single 1080ti.

I too have this setup. I would love to see some BF1 numbers at 3440 to compare and make my decision on if I want a 1080ti or not. Its the game I play the most, that and Overwatch which already runs very well.

I've been wondering about upgrading my CPU when I get the 1080ti as well. After reading 20 some of these threads and gaming at 4K, I think I'll be fine for now.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic, doesn't do justice to my system. I am now waiting for the GTX 1080ti to arrive

I'm running a 980ti with thr pg348q and thr 1080ti is probably THE gpu for this monitor if you want to have full, glorious ultra settings at 100hz on most titles. Probably some games would have a use for sli (or would not use the second card at all), but a single 1080ti should be sufficient.
