The tenth installment in Tom Clancy's (RIP) Ghost Recon franchise is due out next week, and here is some footage that shows off what kind of graphical experience you should expect from the open-world shooter. I am not sure about the direction they have taken the series—when I think of Ghost Recon, I think of some hardcore, edgy militaristic stuff, but Wildlands looks like a very laid-back version of Just Cause to me. Those of you who don’t need another shooter and just want to see drama may read about how the Bolivian government whined to the French about how the game wrongfully depicts their state as a drug-infested area owned by cartels (wait, it isn’t?). Thanks to Kyle for this one.

Fuck ubisoft I don't believe the game will actually look like that. They lost my trust forever. I'll believe it when independent sources make videos of the retail version.

True that. never buy on day one....

Ghost recon always looks good, unfortunately I've never liked the game play and I've played 3 or 4 of their full versions. The outdoor scenes are really impressive but when they actually showed the indoor fight scenes it looked like anything else I've ever seen. We're still at some weird limit of textures or polycount that makes your brain say, 'sorry, still not there'.

However, with the open world design (making this assumption) perhaps they will do what so many other publishers are doing and start melding more of the popular mechanics and designs into a better overall product than they have released in the past. I'm not expecting breath of the wild type game play, but maybe something fresh enough to pull me away from pure shooters for a bit.

I played the recent open beta and was blown away. Lot of potential and it's a HUGE HUGE world. The detail and graphics are some of the best you've ever seen. On my new Kaby Lake 5ghz system and a 1080 I was getting 60FPS @ 4K and trust me, on my 49" KS8000 .... it looked absolutely incredible.

Had a blast playing with random people throughout the beta.

wait, gameworks title ?
broken game at launch ?
who wants to take the bet ?
and besides im tired of Ubisoft games, reskined assasins creed to watch dog to division to recon, you have the feeling to be playing the same game with the same set of animations.

Yeah never crashed on me and some of the best graphics and performance I've ever seen at 4k

The games were always about out door combat, opposed to Rainbow 6 which was in door, hostage rescue type of stuff. Then someone at Ubisoft decided people were too dumb to tell the difference and made Ghost Recon a 3rd person action shooter. Now we're stuck with a CS GO clone and a Just Cause 3 co-op. Although this looks good for what it is. Ghost Recon died a decade ago and we all know this, but this game does look fun. If only it was SP I would play it. I really enjoyed Just Cause 3 and this looks like more of the same, maybe less tongue and cheek, but still just as cheesy.

Between the new "R6", Division and "GR" being MP based I hope they put out some other good SP games. Although if this was SP it would feel a lot like Far Cry I am sure.

watched in 1080 and looks sick, but the helicopter at the end looked off texture-wise.

Wow, I had no idea Tom Clancy had passed. Apparently that happened more than 3 years go.

I used to love reading his books when I was a teenager.

Just for the info, he only offered some insight into Rainbow 6. Shortly after he came out and said that he more or less does not give a damn about computer games. Sold his name and Ubisoft plasters it on just about anything these days. Not really a big deal anymore, but at least they used to have a Tom Clancy feel to them, like the original Splinter Cell titles or Ghost Recon. But the newer games aren't even military themed which is odd.

Game would crash after into video for me and my brother. We'll be waiting untill it's $40.

I read that when Red October came out or it could have been one of his other military books that the military intelligence community became very very concerned so much so that they interviewed Tom Clancy wanting to know how he knew as much as he did.

I could be off a fact or two about that but I think I'm close.

I'm sure they are paying his Estate / Heirs fees from the use of his Name.

The only good things about the beta were the incredible lighting and that it was extremely stable. Unfortunately the animation sucks, the character models look weird and the gameplay falls somewhere between Farcry and Just Cause (but not as good as either) and doesn't feel anything like a Ghost Recon game. Some of the textures look okay while others looked like a blurry mess. Because they were so bad I have to mention the animations again, the cut scenes looked like a bargain bin game from 2010 and instantly took me out of the game the second the first one started. The controls are only a hair better than the animations, they just feel sloppy with almost no weight or precision to them and I used both a controller and a mouse & keyboard.

It really is too bad about the horrendous execution because the premise/concept is great.

But what will this look like in 1080p... asking for friends with 7700K...
Haha
Bought two copies on the forum for half retail. Not worried if it's buggy at launch.
Fyi two nvidia game codes won't register to the same account. Tried it to find out, sucks for sli users. Maybe it detects two video cards? Not sure.

Really undecided on this game - videos look good, beta was stable but game play felt out of whack, and graphics were not nearly as good as the videos. running maxed out of 1440p (GTX1080) @ 60fps performance was solid, so seems well optimized.

I'll wait for reviews and then see after day 1 patch how things are looking.

I remember reading that as well. I read every last one when I was younger. I've been going back and listening to them as audiobooks while exercising. Still decent books. The newer ones aren't as good, but they're not written by him either. They're not horrible. Just not as good.

No clue if the real thing will look like that, but that video is impressive. The catch is that YouTube typically interpolates videos to make them 60fps. They could simply be 30fps footage and and little bit of YouTube magic.

Color me impressed! I've never seen environments look that crisp. But agree that it probably won't look that good when it drops.
