And I don't mean the "I want to believe!" that's followed the graphics cards for a while, but a real, legit, intelligent BUZZ for the upcoming release of these chips, with even reviewers getting HYPED.

I mean come on - Kyle saying "don't be a pussy and preorder" - he can spin it any way he wants, but he would NOT put his name on the line for a SHIT product. May not mean these things are lightyears ahead, but if its enough to get Kyle jazzed, you got to figure the competition and price wars may indeed be back on again, which is all we ever really wanted!

Makes me damn sad my PC broke back in fall of 2015. I wanted to hold out for Zen myself. That said, I am eagerly waiting for the official [H] reviews, but the hype is so damn nice to see!

Hopefully it's that and not Kyle giving us a harsh lesson in the dangers of pre-ordering. :oops:

Or just a chance to use that people enthusiasm to pay the bills with commissions from the links? lol haha.. Im not genuinelly excited by ryzen as itself doesn't show anything performance ground breaking, but the fact that it can push a price drop is what really have me interesting in it to be a success..
 
there was pre-release excitement for previous AMD CPU/GPU releases over the past few years...but this time feels different because it looks like they are finally able to deliver a product for enthusiasts while competing with Intel and Nvidia's high end parts
 
I'm only excited to be able consider AMD again. Every once in a while I'll go through AMDs stack for builds to see if I should consider something and have always come away upset.

That's just it - this excitement and buzz feels different than those other times.
 
Yes I'm happy that people are excited about AMD. Regardless if you're Intel only person, AMD being competitive is good for the industry. I do think Intel was getting a little on the lazy side the past few years. I was really upset with AMD when they released Bulldozer. If everything I see is holding true I plan on getting a Ryzen system real soon. The last time I used AMD in my main rig was 2006.

This kind brings me back to the 9800 Pro and Athlon days. I just hope AMD can sustain it when Intel and nvidia strike back.

I agree I haven't felt this confident with an AMD product in nearly a decade.

even if they can't sustain it, it should not diminish the success of Ryzen and hopefully Vega...Vega might be easier to sustain
 
well i changed my sig, but now i am seeing that the 1600x wont ship until 2nd quarter? I am going to microcenter tomorrow (ikea too) its a 2.5 hour drive, so im just picking up an open box X99 for $70 and a 5820k to run my VR. i will get ryzen for sure, but might be a few months now.

No it won't diminish the success of Ryzen but I'm talking about future generations. I don't want to see something like when the FX series get released and they get dominated by their compeition.
 
I Like all the Sandy Bridge gear that's been going up for sale. I hope Vega is as successful, that's what I'm waiting for.
 
The excitement is definitely deserved, but pre-order culture encroaching on things like processors is pretty bad. People should not be pre-ordering CPU without independent benchmarks.

Agreed....

Though it is bringing back fond memories of driving around Chicago with a buddy, in June, trying to find an T-Bird Athlon at 1Ghz before they sold out a day or two after release.

That was exciting... and a great memory. That machine turned out to be an incredibly long lived machine.

I'm hoping a new build on Zen (I hate the name Ryzen) will be as much fun.

Most places don't change until it ships or is picked up. Reviews come out before the chip launches and ships. If the reviews are bad, cancel and no money was spent.
 
This time the hype is real. I can't believe AMD is going to pull this off.

Last time I was close to this excited was when the i7-5960x came out and the thought of having a 8 core / 16 thread chip, but I'm even more excited today for Ryzen
 
This is the biggest thing to happen in computer gaming in a LONG time.

AMD beating (or even matching) intel is like your HS football team beating the Patriots. Sure, it "could" happen, but you wouldn't bet on it.

Totally amazed.
 
Wow at the response to Ryzen. Now if Vega turns out to be as good as hinted then AMD could have just disrupted the market in a big way. Plus a Ryzen Vega gaming rig sounds cool. Quite the turn of events. :p
 
I got a 1700X confirmed on Preorder via Email from Microcenter. That delicious little BEAST will be mine next week! Heres to hoping I can be first in the door to get a Crosshair VI to go with it.

I am really bummed about VEGA though. If it is going to be such a nice chip bummer for me.

This is because I have an Acer X34 with GSync sigh ..... I am kind of stuck with nVidia if I want to use Gsync moving forward.
 
I do not see reason that some Gsync monitors cannot do FreeSync as well, would be one hell of a selling point. 1700x and Crosshair VI looks like a combo I would most be interested in at this time except the MSI Titanium looks hot too.
 
GSync monitors are ripoffs, they need a whole lot of selling points. No reason to charge $150 to $200 more for Nvidias proprietary technology. Freesync by AMD is non-proprietary and could be adopted by greedy, money grubbing Nvidia, but that would be an admission that they are ripping off everyone. I have a 4k 28 inch Samsung freesync monitor which operates beautifully with no loss of frames or glitches. I bought for at least $200 less than an equivalent Gsync monitor.

That happens to people who blindly adopt a monopolists proprietary technology products. You overpay and in the long rin get screwed. Next time to uograde dump Nvidis where this greedy monopolist belongs: in the gargage can.
 
Sort of sad I just built my current PC. I had been hoping to wait for Ryzen, but I just wasn't patient enough. If they keep it up my next PC will be AMD.

Hopefully they can do something interesting on the GPU front as well.

Please point me at a 1440p 30-165hz VRR range Freesync monitor that I can get for $379 like my S2417DG :(

I would like to have Freesync when Vega comes but the monitor options aren't that good. I'm going to hold off on a new monitor (again) until the HDR stuff comes out though, liking the Asus 4k/120hz as well.

Intel holding that spot; people are getting excited and hyped up for AMD again.
 
I know, look at the way this forum section has exploded and the AMD haters are no where to be found. :D I am seriously thinking of getting the Asus X370 Crosshair VI Hero to have a solid platform to upgrade on top of in the future. :)

The CH VI H is exactly in the same league as the Rampage. Made by ASUS to be AMDs premier board. You just cant go wrong with a Rampage and you cant go wrong with Crosshair.
 
Not a fanboy of anything and never even considered AMD builds but I'm genuinely very interested. As long as there isn't some fatal flaw with the product, this should be immensely successful for them. This is why competition is powerful. Intel will definitely be keeping an eye on this development.

Vega is going to be a bust Radeon's engineering team is too small. Raja has been quoted it will be optimized for DX12 and Vulkan only they can't optimize fully for DX11 and OpenGL. Considering most games are DX11 and even most newer games are still DX11 this is a card that won't come into its own for two to three years which is a shame. There are a lot of technologies in Vega that require devs to change how they make games to explicitly take advantage of GCN next architecture.
 
I don't think that's a bad thing. The industry will naturally transition to DX12 and Vulkan in the near future, and AMD will be in a good place to take advantage of that. You are correct that it may be 2 years, but it seems like a better long term investment to look into the future.

I am actually fairly convinced Ryzen is the real deal, but Vega has not impressed and if its only good for DX12 and Vulkan titles it won't cut it.

give me a list of new games that wont get support for dx12, also include a list that will get dx12. Now compare the two I am sure your statement sounds bullshit then. Most games that are coming out I am always hearing dx12 will be supported if not out of the box.

If the game engine is not explicitly designed for DX12 performance is usually lagging behind their DX11 version or on par. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_12_support A pretty darn tiny list. NVIDIA has AMD number in this game. AMD has yet to demonstrate they can compete with NVIDIA in all games on the high end. Raja has pretty much admitted when talking about Doom OpenGL vs Vulkan they simply don't have enough engineers to program all the PI hooks for the widely more used older API's. There is scant evidence that DX12 or Vulkan will gain any real traction in the next two or three years. Honestly this is a point i wish i was wrong in, as theoretically DX12 and Vulkan offer better performance by better utilization of hardware, but it is much harder for developers to program for who prefer abstraction layers.

Of course it was sarcasm. Point being don't under estimate AMD, also I don't care about DX11 at all the best engines going forward are going to be DX12/Vulkan.

To be fair, these new APIs are barely over a year old (Vulkan came out a year ago and DX12 about a year and a half) while big AAA games can take 2 - 3 years (or longer) to create. Meaning the DX12/Vulkan games that are out now are games originally designed for older APIs and have the new APIs tacked on at the end. It's reasonable to think that new games/engines being created within the last year or so and moving forward may start development with the newer low-level APIs in mind, and thus be able to design around them from the beginning. So within the next 1 - 2 years will we probably see a great deal of new games on these APIs or even exclusively using them.

You have a point, but I'm not sure I agree. Hard core engine programmers are very excited for the new APIs and are the kind of people that want to get down to the metal and gain the extra performance. Developers that prefer abstraction would likely not write directly in a graphics API but use an existing off-the-shelf engine like Unity or Unreal, both of which have DX12 and Vulkan support in the works (available today but not fully stable yet). But it will take time to become standard. DX11 came out 8 years ago but it was only somewhat recently that developers completely dropped DX9 and were able to be comfortable shipping only on DX11.
 
I'm excited that we as customers have 2 viable choices again in the CPU realm --- PC power advanced rapidly when Intel and AMD were neck and neck in the ~500 MHz+ days of K7/TBird & P3 Katmai/Coppermine and customers had a choice between platforms that leap-frogged each other all the time.
Maybe it was process technology that helped, but the race was on and we all benefited from the outputs.

Bringing back viable competition can only be a good thing --- the last AMD system I had was an A64 FX-55 and having been strictly Intel for the last ~10 years, it's exciting to see AMD back and a contender again.

A strong AMD keeps Intel in check and innovating.
