Sony Debuts World’s Fastest SD Cards with Blistering 299MB/s Write Speed

Is that even true? Well, B&H Photo has a nice guide on the speediest memory cards, and it seems that the write speed of Sony’s latest cards do in fact beat the previous champions, which top out at 260MB/s. This is great stuff for photographers who are shooting at demanding burst modes and recording video at 4K resolution. And to complement most rigs that are usually weather sealed nowadays, these cards will be waterproof, temperature resistant, shockproof and X-Ray proof.

SD cards still can’t approach the kind of speeds CFast 2.0 and XQD cards boast, but that’s not stopping Sony from upping their SD game in a big way. Earlier today, Sony officially announced the “world’s fastest SD cards,” their new SF-G series. Announced ahead of CP+, the SF-G cards come in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB sizes and boast some blistering fast read/speeds. Specifically, these little cards can read and write photos at 300MB/s and 299MB/s respectively. As long as your camera supports UHS-II, you’ll be able to take advantage of these speeds for burst shooting, 4K video, and other buffer-busting uses.
 
My first thought was 'Cool, I can upgrade my Raspberry Pi with super-fast storage'. Then I saw the prices and noped out of that idea. Those things have a higher cost per GB than SSDs!

I wonder how many pics I can burst on this one without it slowing down/stopping
 
What bitrate exactly does 4K video record at? I mean would be unreasonable to think 4K video needs about......15MB/s max?

I was thinking along the same lines. My Raspberry Pi 3-based website is already pretty snappy. I wonder what kind of speeds the Pi is capable of with a faster SD card installed.

You mean, like, pretty much every piece of modern solid-state media?

Anyhow, this card is interesting mostly because of the opportunity to use it for recording burst RAW photographs and potentially RAW video
 
to bad, got very excited for a second when I read temperature resistant but the specifications only rate it for -25C. Currently we pay close to 1k for 128gb SSD's for some remote stations that are rugged and are extreme temperature resistant but only -25c wont cut it, needs to be able to handle the -40 to -50 range lol.
 
the GH5 records at 50MB/s.
They are releasing a firmware patch update post release to support higher data transfer in conjunction with support for new features that demand higher bandwidth. They stated at CES they already knew what was in the pipeline and would be releasing the firmware patch a couple months after shipping.
