Is that a good deal? I’m still not sure, but you can check out their game library here if you are considering joining. The service was originally $60, but now you only have to pay half that amount, which is basically $2.50 a month for games such as Battlefront and Mirror’s Edge, Catalyst. Hmm, Origin Access is letting you play Mass Effect: Andromeda early…

A membership to EA’s Origin Access program now goes for $30 per year, the publisher revealed today. Prior to the introduction of the new annual pricing tier, Origin Access had a $5 monthly option only. So now, instead of paying $60 over the course of a year, you only have to pay half that for the same content. EA is also introducing a seven-day trial for Origin Access for people who want to see what it is like. Origin Access is a subscription service where the company’s customers can download and play games like Star Wars: Battlefront, Titanfall, and Mass Effect without having to pay for them individually.

I think the game library is one of the best deals available to anyone. Getting quite a bit of value out of the battlefield series and replaying dragon age, finally playing sim city. Some good titles, I was surprised to find myself praising EA/Origin.

I got into the XBOX EA access on special price for $20 a year.

Regretted it after a week of trying about half of their craptacular sports and action games.

1 day member with only 1 post. How very shill of you.

Don't be like that. I'm sure he's been lurking anxiously here for months just waiting for the perfect moment to say something nice about EA/Origin.

You know, if EA brought more sports titles to the PC, I'd consider subscribing. Their annual EA Sports titles (NHL, Madden, etc) seems like the perfect type of game to monetize into a subscription based series. Used to always hate having to pay full price for the next annual update for these series. If EA already has their annual sports titles as part of being an EA/Origin subscriber, pardon my ignorance!

looks like a decent deal to me

all 3 crysis games + battlefield 4 Premium edition ..download games find fixed .exe' s save em to a back up Drive i have the single player of those games for life . i never did get crysis 3 and every person i asked said that was the best of em..dunno never played it

origin already gave me BF 3 for free last yr ..but for $30 a yr ... its a decent deal if they keep adding new titles ..if after a yr , ya hate it ..cancel it .. you'll probably get alot more then $30 of game play out of the 1 yr subscription

and origin does not run that bad on my system , nor does Uplay , Steam or GOG Galaxy

Too bad I already have like half the titles there and many of them I got them for free on the house.

Now if they include the season pass for SWBF or better yet SWBF II then I might get it.

yea i agree they should give the full SWBF ..not just the standard game ..i already bought that ..and hated myself for doing so ..ran into cheaters online the third day . that ruined the game for me

that game needs dedicated server support ..ahh i miss the good old days ..buy a game .....set up and host your own server FREE .. ya just had to write a config file for it ..and you kick cheaters and ban em by IP ..on your own

Yeah EA can suck it after the CPU issues with BF4 I'm done.

I want to feel the same but you're right, it's not WoW. It's multiple triple A titles for $3 a month if you don't own them already it's a fair deal.

Says the person who just joined the forums and has only posted on this thread.

Yeah, no. EA is where good series go to die.

This. Fuck subscription gaming, this isn't WoW.

I can't believe I'm going to on behalf of a shit company like EA, but I'll play devil's advocate here for a moment. If there are enough games on the catalog that you want to play once but don't want to pay for a regular end-user license (e.g. buy the damn game) all you want for a year, it could be worth it. Some of their newer titles you can only get on Origin and are unavailable on Steam. But honestly, if a buy on Steam were an option, I'd just wait for a sale there. I don't like the slippery slope of subscription gaming either, but I can see this having a use for some people.

Good deal or not, I will not support subscription gaming.

Which means you will never rent a movie or go to a theater, right? What if you want to try all those games without buying them one at a time? To each their own, I guess.

Not exactly the same thing, but I get where you were going with it.

I think subscription services will fill a niche. They're not going to have very many new release titles and will likely feature the back catalog as more and more series go to annual releases (especially with EA and Ubisoft). So for that, I think they'd be useful as these titles are going to be less likely to show up used for sale or in a steam sale. The advantage (to the creator) the always online DRM and near-always-online (having to tag up every X amount of time) is that it allows the publisher to control their product post sale.

Media companies have long dreamed of stifling and killing off the second hand market. Textbooks do it with online one-time use codes for required aspects of the course (they pay schools to use the online portions). It was only a matter of time before such tactics filtered down to gaming.

All this talk has made me wonder if GameFly is still around, haven't seen one of their ads in a long time.

90% of the games I've bought in my life, I played through once and never touched again. Before Steam and digital gaming I could at least sell them and get some money back. Now I can't do that and those game just sit in my Steam library. For that reason I've cut down my game purchases by a large percentage and only buy a game if it is super cheap. If I could play a different game each week for only $30 a year, I'd do it, even if it means I don't "own" the game (like you actually own any digital game to start with).

Why not just buy the handful of good games for five bucks each and be done with it, they always have giveaways or sell these on clearance if you wait a little.

I got enough games off humble bundles to last me a lifetime so not a deal for me personally - plus I can't stand EA or their online store, would not wanna give them my business.

It's only good if you grab it for 1-2 months to binge their games. Their longest games will take you just under a week to play, while many take only a few hours. If you like the game, look up on places like Humble Bundle, Bundle Stars, G2A, etc and buy it.

Worth it for the Mirror's Edge games alone.

I own both. The 2nd one sucks.

I only use gog or steam, there is something about EA and Ubisoft that makes me dislike them intensely.

Actually, I don't do either, and have not for a time now.
Publishers have shown a willingness to push everything as far as they can. They have proven that with micro transactions and DLC. I simply am not going to support subscription gaming because of where I fear they will take the idea. I can see how this sort of thing would appeal to the buy play sell crowd. You are free to do what you want.

Subscriptions are only good deals if you play enough to benefit from them. To someone like me who often goes months without touching certain games, it's a bad deal. I'm better off buying the games I want once. Than to keep a subscription going for games I might load once every two months on average.

It works for me. I just subbed recently. I am currently using origin to finally play Dragon Age 3, the battlefield series, and Titanfall. Quite the deal considering the cost, to purchase, the games I'm playing.

I never understood all the hate towards EA. They are just a company, I don't need to hate them and boycott their games. If they make a game I don't like, I just don't buy it. The same is true if I see a game I do like, I use my wallet to show my support. To that end, this is a great deal if you ask me. Too bad I own most of these games already.

Oh nooooo, EA and Corporate Commander seducing gamers ot the Dark Side!!!
:)
But it does seem a reasonable deal, but with EA how long before that subsription creeps back up.
Probably a benefit paying the annual fee over the monthly in this case as I assume only the annual fee would be protected for 12 months.
Cheers

I am very anti-Origin only because I am happy with Steam and don't want to manage multiple platforms, I enjoy browsing a single library. For $30/yr I'll give it a shot though.

If you own any Ubisoft games on Steam, then you already have UPlay.

Maybe 1 or 2. But again, while UPlay is certainly an annoyance, I don't activley manage it or use it. My game managing/browsing is done through Steam, reguardless of presense of UPlay. Origin is different.

Nah. I am currently replaying ME2, but only because it was free and I'm trying to get into the mood for Andromeda.
