Intel to Invest $7Billion in Arizona Fab

Imagine that they made a deal with AMD to build Zens and Vegas.

That would be wild.

My brother, an electrician, had been working in construction of that fab. Then they mothballed it for a long time. Good to see they'll complete/use it.

But, again, with my brother the electrician working on it, I give it two months before it burns to the ground. :D

I wonder if this is the final death of Fab11X in New Mexico. They haven't been updated in forever and they only have roughly 500 employees there. Tax credits are ending soon as well.

Good to see the big Ocotillo plant finally opening. They never even paved the parking lot so it was so surreal to see this massive facility with grass growing all over the gravel parking lot. The plant is also made for 450 mm wafers so I imagine that has to add additional benefit too.

Yeah, they just put it on-ice because 450mm wafer tech was crazy for an industry that was stalling.

Did they continue on with the 450mm wafers, or has this one been downgraded to 300mm like the rest of the world's top fabs? The fab investment itself should still be usable, either way they go.

That will give them an incredible amount of 7nm capacity. More than 14 and 10nm.

Apple is most likely becoming a custom foundry customer. Just as they started using Intel modems.

That's pretty cool, feels like I've read too many headlines about jobs being lost instead of created.
We're seeing a nice reversal lately... even baby steps at my own office to bring American jobs back, as we've now relegated our previously oursourced IT helpdesk back to the US except for in the evenings. Still a LONG way to go (especially for Intel as +3K doesn't really put a dent in their previous mass US layoffs), but good news is good news!

Now samsung has to build a battery factory in the US and i can get on board with this statement.
LOL! Kidding aside, I can't find any articles that don't mention politics, but as of six days ago, Samsung has said they are going to build a new factory in the US. Supposed to be for appliances though, not batteries, but still. That's in addition to the $1Bn they've already promised to invest in Austin for phone chips.

No, it has to be a battery plant so they can literally light fires

I don't really care if it is tax concessions or whatever the Trump admin is doing, if it brings good jobs back into this country, GOOD. I'm so tired of the outsourcing and factories moving out of this country.

Don't give me the excuse that we won't collect enough taxes. They already collect way more than they should.

When they first talked about that plant I was trying to figure out what skills I would be able to bring to the table to work there. I would have to move up the road an hour, but man, it would be awesome to say I work for Intel.

Like previous "deals", the corporate welfare agreements steal more from America than some temporary jobs add. If you don't think corporate welfare is a serious issue, or that the fraud isn't engaging in it, I strongly suggest you look into the issue and see the hundreds of billions that are being stolen from our schools, roads, veterans, etc. Just stay away from Faux News and their bias agenda when researching for the facts, unless its Shepard Smith.

I think this is more of a shuffling of jobs. Aloha, OR has closed and I can't see Rio Rancho lasting past the time the tax credits end in 2020.

The Aloha plant closed? Is that the one they finished just a couple years ago then shifted focus? Our company spent years working on their construction.

Bottom line, there's always a new Intel plant being planned or built.

Did you do the construction of the new parts of Ronler Acres? That building and fab are very nice. Parking sucks.

Nowhere near the waste in gov't. In SC they refuse to audit the DOT and it's been proven that they are just holding onto funds, in order to raise the gas tax. That's a single tiny example of gov't waste. There are enough taxes collected to fund whatever we want. It's the waste and abuse that's the problem. Funny how the left NEVER talks about gov't waste???

It's just MORE MORE MORE. Well, at least half of America is fed up with it and ready to reign it in.

"The decision to built out the plant in Chandler has nothing to do with the Trump Administration’s America first policies, said Gartner lead Intel analyst Mark Hung."
That may be true, but for Intel to go to the Whitehouse so Trump can announce this as a win begs the question, how much is this costing taxpayers?

Good to see this facility getting finished. I remember reading about the projected being halted years ago on this same website.

Hopefully these jobs go to actual Americans and not foreigners on H-1B visas and Intel isn't given a free pass to dump its waste in the nearest river.

This plant is pretty close to me. I wonder what kind of job openings I can apply for there...

I would have to say that having AMD coming out competitively may have pushed this along. After all, why would Intel bother spending the money otherwise. (No, I am not saying this is the only reason though.)

Technically, AMD has no fabs. But it's easy to see Intel is taking a page from AMD's spinoff Global Foundries play book to expand ARM chip production and 3rd party design production to grab more share of the devices market.
