Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands

Didn't any of you play Far Cry 4? My god, all this game is is a re-skinned FC4 in which you can have a squad. I was really hoping for missions that were similar to that of GTA5's heists. Where instead of all 4 in the squad simply driving to a mission and killing all bad guys, each player would have his/her own mini mission within the mission.

I agree. If you took Ghost Recon Future Soldier's base gameplay, tweaked and refine it a little, put a little Watch Dogs 2 slant on it (drones and some other things reminded me of it) and slapped it in an FC4 type situation you basically get this game. I don't deny it.

I like it for what it is but yes that's a pretty fair summary.

That would be/would have been sweet. This is an example of why I wish they would delay this game a few months and put it over the top.

I tried to play Future Soldier, don't think I got more than 2 hours into the game before walking away in disgust. After the GRAW games, it felt like a cheap arcade ripoff of what this series has always been. Wildlands 'seems' to be a bit more serious, despite all the GTA / FC4 shenanigans. If the gunplay, missions and characters are believable and well done, I'll overlook the rest. If it plays like Future Soldier did, I'll never own it.

I couldn't get into the game... tried to do my best but enemies are alerted way too fast & I just find it to be Far Cry 4 (which I wound up hating due to it being too perfect with gunplay by the enemy) in 3rd person view with a whole lot of seriousness thrown in (ex: died way too many times). I think I'll pass on this. My thanks to Xerack giving me an invite to try out the open beta.

MarcoStyle covers the good, bad and ugly:

I agree with most, but not all of his assessment. Still have to wait for the actual release reviews to make any kind of decision. I want the game, but the arcadey, GTA -like facets of the game may deter me.

Nice vid.. The video settings in this game should really be the new standard.. It even shows you the differences.. He covers it in the video and I agree completely.

It took the few good things from Future Soldier and brought them forward into this. I liked Future Solidier as a "decent" game that I bought for $25 or some such? This is better than Future Solider for sure. That I have no problems signing off on.

What difficulty did you play at? Hopefully this is an example of something that gets refined on the final product.

I'll echo the thumbs up for the MarcoStyle youtube video.

I actually don't remember... either normal or hard. I choose hard for open world games since I tend to do really well with stealth but not so much on this one.

Mack said they're seeing him thru walls. lmao

unless they optimize the game further even if I liked it I wouldn't be able to play with my GTX 970...and no I never play games on Low or Medium graphic settings

I had ramp it down on my OCed 980ti, so it's odd having a game that doesn't look the best at max settings be so laggy. I watched the frame lag & it was higher than what I usually see with games of the same graphical quality.

Sounds like you haven't played the earlier Ghost Recon games. They were a lot more challenging than this and I find this game super fun and challenging.

There are a lot of interesting parts to it and I love the exploded view of the weapons and the customization of that. The sniping is surprisingly satisfying as is trying to manage the squad in an orderly fashion to attack a stronghold. The difficulty is solid as you really have to try to avoid situations where it isn't completely stacked against an enemy (taking your time to spot all of the enemies is crucial) because it only takes a bullet or two to put you down at the higher difficulties. That scared the shit out of me with how fast they dropped me, lol.

But the way you as a player interact with the game leaves way too much to be desired. Add the copious performance issues into that and it just pulls me out of being able to enjoy it. I bet it plays great on a console but this is, surprisingly enough, the first time I've ever felt the PC version was completely shit on in terms of how it plays. If they can improve things like the driving physics, performance and obvious nit picks like subtitles and some icon to determine who the hell in my squad is talking so I can develop an understanding/attachment to them I'll look into it again. It just feels half baked on the PC, in my opinion.

It will run Great! on consoles. BC why bother? PC is too much work to get right. Let's all sell our PC and buy consoles. Consoles are the devil!

Fucking don't release it on PC if you are going to half ass it.

This looked fucking awful. It's like they rebranded The Division.

I'd maybe buy it for $5-$10 but there's very little content here. Just a huge map with the same missions over-and-over-and-over-and-over

That's your opinion and actually it's nothing like the division, but ok. It's quite fun and the variety of missions and ways to play them is great if you actually try the game.

He's not the only one I've seen that complaint from.

I can only hope enough feedback pours in off this beta and they at least address nonsense like that.

In some ways I wish it were. If they gave me "spec ops squad Division meets GTA 5" that would basically be video crack for me. ;)

This is probably my biggest concern with this game, overall.

With the eye candy maxed out, I though the game looked pretty good but not earth shattering.

I could see a Battle Royale mode being pretty successful, maybe even defining this game's future (much like H1Z1).

I'm actually relieved to hear this. I'm sorry you didn't have a fun experience, but a lot of the footage I was seeing the player was taking a lot of damage compared to this franchise's early games. This franchise was built on realism and realistic bullet damage, it has always set itself apart from the mainstream. I know it can be frustrating when compared to other games, but I'm glad there is a franchise like this that makes you be tactical & use stradegy. So long as it isn't aimbot or wall hack type stuff anyway.

This isn't encouraging. I'm using 2 980 Ti's in SLI, but I'm also playing at 4k. That means if they cannot optimize it enough to satisfy the fans, they'll end up downgrading it to console levels.

I've never been into tactical shooters (last time I did so was Rainbox Six 1), so trying this out just verified that I'll do alright without it. Now, if the team members acted more like the AI from Mass Effect & Dragon Age, I'd be a lot happier since I'm not fond of babysitting AI. Oh well, I have a huge backlog, so I can't really complain.

Understandable. I'm not fond of babysitting either, but forced myself for the sake of the tactile gun play. Glad this one allows for co-op (if I end up getting it).

Looking forward to ME: Andromeda! BioWare games are some of my all time favorites.

Yep, since I'll be passing up on this one (unless changes are made to the squad based tactics), I'm looking forward to ME:A. Next month will be a great month for me once I have it installed.

This is a weird tangent but does anyone remember Full Spectrum Warrior? That was some tactics right there. Flawed, but in many ways better than modern "tactical" and "squad based" shooters.

That game had some potential.

This video echoes my thoughts fairly accurately. When they started cranking up the hype machine and putting out more videos, one of the things I noticed (and others started pointing out) was the dopey enemy AI, and how the player could just tank damage in a "hardcore realism" game. I remember standing up for the Devs because one of them had commented saying you could "die from a single bullet on the hardest difficulty". At present, it sounds like that is B.S.

This game needs more time. Now they have some beta feedback, I hope they take it.

Have you played Division or Wildlands? A perspective does not make the games the same.

Then why would you say its a rebranded Division. When the games are not similar at all.

I would call it a rebranded Ubisoft open world game. Their graphics, interface, etc to me are all recycled and moved to their next game.

Exactly how I felt after playing the alpha...just feels like they re-skinned The Division. Ubisoft is just recycling the same shit over and over, making millions doing it, and nobody seems to care.

The only similarities I see with this and The Division are both games are open world and co-op oriented. The similarities end there.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands open beta dates revealed

the open beta will run from February 23 until February 27...pre-loads will start this coming Monday, February 20...the beta will grant access to the Unidad Conspiracy mission where players will “spark a war” between local militia’s the Unidad and the Santa Blanca cartel...the open beta will include two of the 21 provinces, the mountainous Itacua region and the snowy Montuyoc which is apparently much more challenging...as with the closed beta, players can hook up with three friends and play the missions cooperatively

anyone who takes part in the beta will also be granted access to the Unidad Conspiracy mission when the game launches

Again... whatever lumps Ubisoft has earned on themselves and so forth... I have to give them and anyone else major kudos for putting out free open demos and betas like this. I'm happy to see it and I really hope it starts a trend in the industry.
