HTC Vive Owners Thread

So you are going to disable all of your AR-15s? Right ;)

While we are on the topic of head straps...this looks fairly promising as well. Similar to the PSVR setup and ability to flip the headset up.

I am sure the TV/walls/monitors/etc is going to love that Vive Tracker. :)

I like that rEvolve setup. Since I wear glasses though I am not sure about it, but I really want that flip up ability.

The rEvolve does look like the headset would flip up if you look down which would kinda suck if they don't have a lock. Weight on the forehead though might be a lot better though. As for sound I use Bose In ear pieces and they work great! So not putting extra ear pieces adding more weight to your head plus more bulk to me is good. The new vive head mount to me looks better except for the headphones I would not want.

I have already destroyed a TV without the vive tracker. Attaching that to a base ball bat, golf club, or AR? Shit WILL get broken.

I bought insert lenses for my Vive, but I still would love the flip up capability offered by rEvolve. The rEvolve setup does look like it might be problematic with full sized cans. That would be an issue for me.

How would you get the action to cycle without live rounds? That really seems like a situation where a custom upper would work better than attaching stuff to a real one.
If I did that, I would punch holes in my monitors, windows and probably a few walls. Not to mention I would probably bulk up pretty good over time :).

Punch holes in your monitors, how, exactly? With the muzzle? Or do you mean you'd mistakenly use live rounds? I'm imagining a custom upper for the AR-15 that includes some linear motors that manipulate the hammer and bolt assembly so that the trigger resets, and you get at least some simulation of recoil. Otherwise, you'd have to pull the bolt handle after every shot to reset the trigger.

Unless you can guarantee that no one will ever walk into or see into your VR space, using a real gun as the base for a VR controller seems like a terrible idea. If someone walking by your house gets scared from seeing you stomp around your living room with a gun, they will call the cops and you might die because you're deaf and blind to the real world, waving a gun around.

An actual controller with realistic weight distribution and non-gun shape/coloring would be much better. One that could easily change weights and grips would allow you to simulate all kinds of guns. You can't see it in VR so who cares what it looks like.

Just get this: http://vrsenal.com/

Looks cool, but there's very little info about it and the fact that you have to email them to inquire about purchasing (with no pricing listed) makes me think this is far too expensive.

Also, "integrates with Lighthouse system"...LOL, no, you physically attach the Vive controller to it for tracking it looks like (or they took the top off of a Vive controller and attached it...?). Also, what is the point of "glass optics" when you are wearing a VR headset?

The Athena KS thing looks more promising because it actually offers force feedback and a magazine release/catch system for reloads. I don't see anything indicating that this does.

Because I would need a real baronet attached to it :wtf:, use it to butt enemies as well :). Unless the tip of the barrel had a sensor on it - it would reek havoc in my some what small space. If my space was open, much larger that would be a different story.

I don't see the real gun in VR so I don't mind just holding something that feels like a gun and seeing it look like a gun in VR.

I would definitely purchase a different head strap. After watching the videos in this thread of the new official HTC strap and that rEvolve head strap both look great but I might lean more towards the official one. Both look great and should make things easier.

I like keeping the Vive on my face really tight to the point I get the huge red imprint on my face after I take it off. Whichever one does a better job of eliminating that will get my money. The strap and the original cable were my two biggest complaints about the Vive. Picked up the new slim cable which has been great so far. A better strap and I'll be happy all around.

Was the slim Cable longer than the original cable? My issue is the length of the cable right now

My concern with the new headstrap is that it's potentially going to cost $50+ when it really should have come with it in the first place. If you look at the Rift it's basically emulating that and that was included in the original price.

Agreed. It was probably a cost cutting measure to maximize profits when the Vive had a clear advantage over the Rift because of the controllers. I'm guessing this is going to be a lot more than $50, one can hope but so far I've very happy with the Vive, the head strap being by far my biggest gripe, which is case for almost everyone. So at $50 it's a no brainer. If it gets to hitting $200, I'd not be pleased but if it's a lot better then the included strap, I'll get one.

They looked to be the same length to me. I find the slim cable to be less prone to getting twisted and tangled while playing / spinning, and when it does it is far easier to untangle.

You're absolutely right, but I'll still buy it anyways if it is a noticeable improvement. I don't think they intentionally made a poor head strap so they could sell us all a better one later so I can give them a pass.

I was always against the Rift design with the headphones included for my personal usage, I wanted to use my Sennheiser headphones. After using them now the whole time I think I'd rather have the headphones like the Rift and new HTC design just so I can keep my head a bit cooler. That is another part that seems attractive and like you said they are pretty much going with what Oculus has done.

I already have a modded welding helmet solution and decent earbuds, so TBH if the official Vive headstrap is more than $50 or so I'll likely not bother.

Personally I am thinking of just getting the revolve one depending on the price they offer it for. Like Ryan7968, I bought my own pair of over the ear headphones for the vive that I am happy with and I want to be able to change them to earbuds in the summer when it gets hot. I also like the flip option so there is also that. :)

Same length but if you get the new one you can use the old one to connect the PC to the link box. Dunno if that would help your particular situation

I use Bose in ear sound and they are great full sounding ear pieces, light weight and don't fall out or get sweaty. Frankly anything over $50 for just the head piece would probably get the middle finger. The price will probably be much higher depending upon the quality of the ear pieces and if you have to buy the complete assembly. I would not want the included sound phones.

I wonder how much the tracker cost? If you can buy bundled or multiple trackers cheaper? When all of this stuff will be available?

Well the rEvolve kickstarter is up:

It looks as if the price is $85. That's a bit steep IMHO. They offered it to 10 early backers for $65 but IMHO that was the most I was expecting to be. I hope they get to their goal of $5k, but I'll wait for the finished product to see what other people think about it.

Just came here to post this. WAY too expensive for what it is.

Plus their kickstarter is odd, unless I am missing something.

They have an option for the rEvolve at $65 but it is no longer available. They have 24 total backers, none in the $1 category, and 14 in the $85 category. That means they only had 10 available for $65??? Only 10?

I think they would get way more backers, possible fully funding the project, if they aimed at $50-60 price point from the beginning. $85 it way too much for what it is.

They already surpassed the goal and if you've spent 800 dollars on the headset what's 85 more?

I don't think it's a scam personally, but I do find it overpriced. I would be more inclined to believe the reason for the higher price is they didn't think they could compete with the new HTC version headset strap that was announced so they only have a small production run planned. Remember VR is not exactly a large population yet, if they lowered the price by 30-40% they'd need more backers also. If you go by today's figure they have about 72 backers for a combined ~$7800, and have already surpassed the funding goal, but if they lowered the price by just $20 to $65 they'd only have about $4600 and wouldn't even be funded yet. It looks as if they are going to be giving prototypes out to VR review sites according to their update page. Kyle you should ask if you can review it. :) $85 is a bit too high IMHO for the general market but I might still jump in at the last minute if I can read some reviews on how well the flip option works if you have glasses.

Definitely interested in something like this. The biggest problem with both the Vive and Rift is the head gear. Something relatively simple and easy with a ratchet style strap would go a long ways.

As an aside, I sometimes get the feeling that both companies did what they did with the current head straps partly out of aesthetic concerns. Almost as if they thought there was anyway for us to not look dorky wearing an HMD like the Rift or Vive. :p

I love my vive, but I just moved into a smaller apartment and now I don't have room to set it up :( Thinking about getting rid of my dining table and using that space as my vr area :D

Do it! I did when I was in a small temp apartment during my move, definitely worth it.

Or maybe a folding table that can be leaned against a wall. :)
