Amazon May Finally Accept PayPal

I had honestly believed that Amazon never accepted PayPal because Jeff Bezos had some vendetta against the online payments company—why else would it take so long? Pretty much every online merchant supports PayPal. Apparently, they just never really talked all that much to develop a business relationship. I think PayPal on Amazon might be kind of moot, though, since the latter already provides the convenience and security of the former. (Well, at least I would like to think that my CC info is safe with the largest online retailer, as it would be disastrous if Amazon had even the tiniest leak.) And with PayPal taking their sweet time with things like refunds, I wonder if it is worth it at all.

While Amazon’s most loyal shoppers generally have their payment information saved as part of the Amazon Prime program, some shoppers might prefer the convenience of using PayPal as their primary digital wallet, said Paul Condra, analyst at Credit Suisse. That might produce more sales for Amazon, which may also benefit customers in Europe where credit cards are less prominent, he said. “There are people who don’t want to put their credit card information on Amazon and would like to use PayPal,” he said. PayPal separated from eBay -- Amazon’s onetime arch rival -- to concentrate on expanding its electronic transactions business without being shackled to the slow-growing online marketplace. Schulman, who became CEO after the split, has been forging agreements to increase the number of people using PayPal and the frequency they use it.

I like using Amazon Payments as I can use any CC on my account to pay for something.

Finally. This has prevented me from buying from 3rd party sellers on Amazon for a long time. When you buy from someone in Ebay and use PayPal to pay, you are afforded many protections, including guaranteed returns and even free return shipping (if you signed up for it).

I can't count how many times I got screwed by 3rd party sellers on Amazon before I realized I could just use PayPal on Ebay and have a higher level of guarantee on a purchase.

I sell a lot of old stuff on eBay, and I buy a lot of new stuff on Amazon, so this will help me out.

PayPal is one of the reasons I haven't sold anything on ebay for the past few years.

It may be ok for buyers, but it's a complete rip (just like ebay) for sellers.

Pssst, you can use your CC on PayPal as well.

No, it's that I can use any CC from my family with Amazon Payments in addition to mine of course. They are always asking me to order them things using my Prime. It used to be that I would pay for it using my CC and then they would reimburse me. Now I just hit change payment to one of their cards and handle the transaction. Say one of their kids wants the new Humble Bundle Android Pack? Humble Bundle accepts Amazon Payments. So I just switch to their card and pay for it.

All of this is predicated on me being a honest person. They don't trust themselves to make the right decision. Thus why I'm always being asked to order this and that over the net for them.

I'm not sure if PayPal allows CC from different people on the same account. They might!

I looked at Amazon's list of retail partners. You can buy a computer from Lenovo using Amazon Pay (or whatever it's called now). There's also underwear from Hanro of Switzerland. But what about things one buys on a regular basis? I don't buy hundreds of dollars worth of Swiss underwear.

Target accepts PayPal. If they would start accepting Amazon, that would be huge.

I see no reason for amazon to accept paypal. They already offer their own payment service that is much better (and more cost effective for sellers) than paypal. Slumping to paypal seems like a downgrade overall. The sooner paypal dies, the better.

There has been a couple times i've wanted to use my paypal balance on amazon and wished they would accept paypal before realizing I have a paypal debit card and can just use that.

I used to be a fan of PayPal on eBay, due to the bias they have for buyers. However, I ran into issues with fraudulent buyers for a few things I tried to sell, and I was powerless when they charged back on their CCs. That was a while ago, so maybe things have changed.

However, there were a few sellers that I used to buy from on a consistent basis. Pretty much all of them stopped using eBay due to the stringent policies that favored buyers, and due to eBay and PayPal nickel and diming with their fees. It just isn't worth it, especially when larger retail companies also moved on to the eBay platform, further killing competitiveness.

Maybe this was one of the reasons Ebay split with Paypal? Losing out on all of those Amazon sales by being owned by Ebay wasn't worth it for Paypal.

This is useless , if i wouldn't trust Amazon with my CC , i sure as hell wouldn't trust PayPal.

Where do those sellers sell now?

Is there anyone you do trust with your credit card number?

I am beginning to think I'm the only person in the world who has never had a problem with PayPal. I've used it for well over a decade with received payments in the six figures for my web design business. I've also used it to buy and sell all over, and made much use of their debit and credit cards. I can count on one hand the problems I've run into, and they've always been satisfactorily resolved.

I'm assuming most of the issues come from people selling physical goods on eBay. I've only sold a couple of physical items there. However, I've bought and sold a lot of music gear on reverb.com using PayPal with no problems.

Yeah Paypal is no longer connected to ebay really this is a good idea so if you wanted a graphic card you could use Debit card for a purchase.

you can get a Paypal Mastercard which is a debit card that pulls directly from your Paypal funds.

I'll check into this.

The other reason I use PayPal is because it's easier to hide money from my wife. I buy/sell a lot of car parts. The more of those transactions I can keep behind the scenes, the less likely I am to run into trouble when I do crack into the checking account for car stuff.

Well Jeff Bezos competes with Elon Musk with the rockets to space and Elon was involved with PayPal in the past ... Not sure on the connection, but they may have had a rivalry going on for some time now and Jeff felt petty. Just my guess...

Wait, people put funds into Paypal? I mean do people use Paypal as more than a way to alias your CC from online merchants? I only use paypal for that purpose.

That might have come out wrong, what i mean is that i have more faith in Amazon than PayPal with my CC so no point for Amazon to offer PayPal.
i.e Amazon is more trustworthy

p.s
I use both with my CC

I feel the same way.
