Mass Effect: Andromeda Gets 10-Hour EA Access Trial

This is fantastic news for Mass Effect fans, but I’m going to be “that guy” and suggest that EA has no real interest in giving gamers an early taste of the next chapter in the epic space saga—they are just desperate for you to pay up for EA Access, their subscription service. And I’m probably right, since that is the prerequisite for getting an advanced idea of whether BioWare managed to craft a meaningful adventure, or crashed and burned like the ending of Mass Effect 3. Am I the only one who is hyped about John Paesano’s soundtrack, which has barely been touched upon in Andromeda coverage?

People who subscribe to EA Access or Origin Access will be able to play Mass Effect: Andromeda for up to 10 hours before the game launches, publisher Electronic Arts announced recently. The trial will go live March 16, five days before Mass Effect: Andromeda’s March 21 release date. EA Access and Origin Access are available on Xbox One and Windows PC, respectively, meaning that as always, PlayStation 4 owners will miss out on the trial. EA also announced the next four games that it will add to the EA Access Vault: Dead Space: Ignition, Madden NFL 17, Skate 3 and Zuma’s Revenge. That will expand the Vault over the 40-game mark “later this year,” according to EA.
 
I hate all these desperate cash grabs.I'll wait since I'll probably be disappointed anyway.
 
WOW omg i can play 10 hrs before anyone can play. wow thats worth the subscription price no doubt. hmmm NOT!!
 
Maybe if that 10hr gameplay was in the next week or two, that might do it. Otherwise meh. The savings on game purchases on xbox is nice though. I let mine expire though, they stopped producing games worthy of buying imo so i was just tossing money out.

Probably going to get mass effect on ps4 anyways .
 
Got no interest in these silly things. Just release a great game in March.

I played the hell out of the couple of maps included with the UT99 demo. I had a lot of fun and bought the game as a result.
 
No demo is a sad reflection of the times but it it's any consolation Origin Access has plenty of subscribers, and we should be able to get advance notice of performance problems and glances at gameplay and story before launch.

i almost dont even want to buy the game since its not available on steam. i almost never buy EA games and i usually forget my origin login in the years inbetween
 
Origin/ea access is actually a damn good deal for some people, like me. $5 a month and I got BF4, Battlefront, dead space 1,2,3, mirror edge catalyst, and Dragon age inquisition through it for "free" as long as I continue to pay $5 a month. There's a bunch of other full titles as well. Considering I put in close to 100 hours in just BF4 and haven't even started dragon age yet, it's a pretty sweet deal. then again if you've already played all those games or already own them, it wouldn't be too appealing.

There are two options for these subscriber games. Either you get a game that you already owned and played when it first come out.
Or you get a game that you were never interested in enough to actually buy and play. So what's the point?
And that 5/month adds up real quick. Most older games you can get for 10-20 easy. So you can buy the game you want every 2-4 months instead of getting a random one every month that'll only clutter your library.

I don't think any subscription services are a good deal.But of course game studios and console manufacturers want a calculable steady income, instead of just making great games that people would reliably buy. Instead they try to give away their crap with this ruse. "WE GIVE FREE GAMES, if you regularly pay this minor fee"

Really it's an addiction: "I can't cancel my subscription cause what if next months's game will actually slightly marginally interest me?"

EA Access on the Xbox is $30 a year, so more like $2.50 a month. It keeps me recent on all the EA sports games.

No. Those are not the only two options at all. What makes your completely false statement hilarious is that a third option (you get games you want to play) was described in the very post to which you were replying.

And you just ignore the part where I discredit that exact scenario by saying that if you really wanted to play those games you'd have purchased them already, and not wait for them to drop in a random lottery of games.

I know what I'm talking about. There were a bunch of games, that were either made free on origin that I clicked on thinking "hey I want to play this" or were the monthly games on playstation plus that I was "interested" in. And do you know how much I actually played them? Some I started maybe once. But most I haven't even installed from these games that "I wanted to play" And at the time of first seeing them I was very certain that I wanted to play them. But I'm an enlightened ex addict now, I'm many years clean of any kind of subscription based scam.

BTW adding "completely false" and "hilarious" are not arguments. They just show a certain lack of sophistication on your part. When you let insults instead of arguments do the talking.
 
Heh. That really doesnt make sense. There's a ton of games I want to play but don't buy for a few reasons. Money, for one. Maybe you either make good money, live at your parents, or don't have many other hobbies. Doesn't matter, either way I don't always have a ton of cash to drop on games. I also do a lot of shooting which costs money and while I don't make crap money I definitely don't make a lot.

Secondly, If I'm investing time into a game I'm not going to waste money on another one that I'm not playing. I don't like playing more then 1 or 2 games at once. A $35 game equals 7 months of access. $5 isn't a big deal. I'm putting in a lot of hours into BF1 and there's no way I'd drop money on a few games right now, aside from 1 which is RE7.

Not to mention I still have like 5-7 games backlogged that I've bought and not played yet. I work 50 hours a week so time comes into play. because I'm paying the miniscule $5 a month I'll play that he origin ones first, when I get to them.

On top of that sometimes I just don't get around to buying some games. It's amusing you deal in such absolutes with this scenario.

I could probably make a list of games I'd definitely like to play that came out last year and year before, if not more. I guess not everyone is like you....


In any case, this is a pretty stupid debate. I found it to be a good deal for me. Like I said, not everyone will feel that way. It's pointless to debate my simple opinion that some may find it useful. is what it is.

Every single time I've booted up my Xbox One, Games With Gold titles have dominated my friends list (5-15 people playing them out of the hundred or so people on the list, second place typically held by the FPS flavor of the season).
 
Not a good deal for me. It does nothing more than give me access to games I already own or don't care about. I buy the game like a year after release. Have too many Steam sale games that I'm catching up on. Just got into Dragon Age Inquisition like a couple weeks ago. Think I bought that game like a year ago in some kind of sale. Makes little sense for me to bother, as Steam, EA, G2A, PS Store, XBL, etc have crazy ass sales every now and then. After Dragon Age Inquisition, I have all the Neptunia games to play since they had a big sale on them on Steam and I grabbed them all for like $14.

If I owned few games, some of these services would make sense for me. Why try to buy all these old games, when I can just pay the service fee, binge them, then cancel the service. It also makes more sense for the younger generation. Easier to scrounge up that $5 each month, than it is to scrounge up $60 once. That's more a society problem of not being able to save money though.

I just wish there was only one service on PC. I'd randomly do it here and there for a month or two, so I can binge some games. Sadly, everyone has their own service nowadays and some simply don't have a pay service. I haven't looked at other things like GoG or what have you.

Well then I'm wrong on a global scale. All I know is I never really played any of the free titles I got. Hell sometimes I don't play games that I actually buy. What really interests me I buy anyway much sooner than it would become a give away title.
