I own an Asus Strix Fury. Fan number 3 broke and they refused to fix it because I bought a "whitebox."

Usually, this isn't some big issue as a ton of us here mod crap anyway. I took it apart got to the fan and then tried to buy a replacement for months. Even buying the exact same serial number produced a different fan. I eventually gave up on getting an exact replacement. Asus is using a custom unusual mounting pattern to prevent you from replacing the fan. Then they aren't even using a unique serial number. You literally can not buy this fan.

I have had to splice a different fan into place and use zip-ties to get it to stay in place correctly. It is of course working, but this really puts a damper on my opinion of their products. I have bought Asus since before Hardocp even existed. So this is somewhat of a damper for me.

Which manufacturers are offering the ability to buy fans or atleast are using fans that can be bought third party?

Edit: I did inquire with Asus to buy a replacement part. They refused. I went digging through my old receipts and found that I once owned a MSI video card in a very old Geforce 4 and they did sell me directly a replacement fan. My has that been many years. Why Asus is using these custom fans and then not selling replacement parts is beyond me.

Possibly a stupid question, but did you look for a replacement fan on eBay or Alibaba? I found replacement fans for my Sapphire Tri-X 290X on Ebay, which appeared to have been bootlegged out of the factory or something. I think XFX offers their fans as replaceable units. JayzTwoCents had a video about this fairly recently. I think the card was called a "GTR?"

Also, when you got in touch with Asus support, did you try asking if they'd just sell you a replacement part?

Regardless, this very problem is the reason I went to custom water cooling for my 290X.

I'd look at ebay. It looks like you can get a replacement fan (if you want to pay for it).

I learned my lesson the hard way dealing with Sapphire and a fan issue. I RMA'd the card because the fan was clicking and they never sent me back a working card despite 3 separate RMA's (fans worked, the cards had bad artifacts...probably RMA'd mining cards). I finally got sick of it and threw it out. I should have just swapped the fan myself.

I'd have gotten ghetto and slapped an AIO on it with zip ties and call it a day.

sapphire and XFX GTR have replaceable fans. I own both. The xfx has a little bit nicer design as they use magnets or screwless design. sapphire i have clocks higher though.

I attempted this multiple times. These fans do not work they are for Nvidia cards for the most part or the wrong asus card. once in a grand blue moon one may appear for as much money as a water cooling block.

Could have messaged on some boards and some gay with a WC setup would have sold you his cooler intact for much less trouble than you went through.

lol.

ASUS is one of the worst companies now when it comes to customer support in any form that involves repairs or RMAs. And their products aren't nearly as good/reliable as they used to be. Do a ghetto mod if you must or just replace it. Dealing with ASUS will get you nowhere.
