While overclocking with liquid nitrogen does little to impact the actual everyday enthusiast's desktop experience, it is surely fun to see. The HWBOT World Tour recently stopped by CES last week and they were nice enough to share some event photos with us as well as results. As you know, a little LN2 can go a long ways, and last week it went far enough to push Intel's Core i7-7700K to a very cool 7.026GHz.

The HWBOT World Tour is organized by HWBOT, the world’s leading platform for competitive overclocking. As well as organizing online competitions and regulating global score submissions, the HWBOT mission also includes evangelizing overclocking as an Esport and the promotion of overclocking on a truly global level. The HWBOT World Tour is a crucial element in bringing overclocking to people of all walks of life, in all corners of the globe.

You can read up on our 7700K Instruction Per Clock Preview that compares it to the previous Skylake architecture at comparable clocks. Also worth mentioning is that we are putting the final touches on a 7700K Kaby Lake vs 2600K Sandy Bridge IPC review.

Just found this 8GHz from 5 years ago with AMD. :)

The trend isn't looking good.. a 67% overclock using LN2 compared to some other LN2 overclocks previously mentioned in [H]..

2013 - Asrock managed to overclock a 3.5GHz Core i7-4770K to 6.5GHz = 86% increase

2012 - Core i7-3770k running at 7.06GHz = 102% increase

2011 - Kyle at AMD Austin watches a FX 8150 on LN2 overclocked to 8GHz = 158% increase

I love it how sandy bridge is still relevant and worth testing against a full SIX YEARS LATER.
