Hello, Win7 Ultimate (legit key) started randomly crashing, after 6 months of running great.

It seems to be only during 3D games. tells me event id 41. Can't find much googling. When i was younger it was always fun to reformat, now it sounds like a hassle. I haven't installed anything new since it started crashing. thanks for reading

i7-4790k (no custom oc) w/ after market cooler
980ti evga
16gb ram
1tb ssd msata w adapeter
1tb hdd 2.5"

e: only games I play are CS:GO and Divinity Origin of Sin(which i highly recommend if you like dnd rgps and splitscreen coop) through Steam

The real question is this: did you install anything new BEFORE it started crashing as after it started is meaningless. ;) If you say it's only happening during gameplay then it could be a driver issue or perhaps some heat related problem more than likely.

My guess is flaky memory. Run the full 4 passes of MemTest 86+ to rule this out!

Any way to test psu short of finding a replacement unit? Could it be the mobo? I dont know how to test that either...
Ill run memtest tonight

Look for a program called PC-Check. It is a bootable cd that you can use to diagnose flaky hardware. Only real way to test the PSU is to swap it with a known good one, unless you have an actual PSU tester. Sometimes people buy one local and if that doesn't fix it they take it back.

it can be
CPU
memory
motherboard
HDD/SSD
cables/connectors
PSU

You need to do basic hardware testing to begin with

if its the same PC-check i tested back in the days its pretty bad at finding errors. a lot of false negative.
memory test is weak
CPU test is very weak

id rather recommend do use metest86, prime 95, furmark, HDD brands diagnostic tools. CDI

this one ?

Make sure you download the "PassMark Software" version of MemTest 86 (http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm) and not the old Memtest 86+ from memtest.org or elseware.
When using Memtest 86 make sure you choose the UEFI CD/DVD/BD boot option so that it runs version 7.2 and not the older version 4.3 that is included on the same download.
