Just one guy's subjective thoughts on what his favorite games to play were in 2016. There may be a couple on the list that you are not familiar with. One worth noting is certainly SUPERHOT. It is a First Person Shooter that does not require you to be a twitch-gamer in order to play successfully. This game has been out for about a year, but now it has support for VR with motion controllers too.

His taste in games and my taste in games are totally different which is OK though I can't agree with his list at all.

Darkest Dungeon is really good but the game becomes not-fun once you reach Champion level. Too much RNG, the AI likes to death blow your healer down with 3 straight crits, and there goes a character you spent 20 hours leveling up.

What's so cool and refreshing about his list is that .... unlike 99% of other PC game reviewers who review the same fcking crap as the next guy and say the same crap in their bs reviews .... he doesn't. Doom must be really good to have made his list. So I am definitely going to take a look at getting this title. I typically stay away from main stream games because most of it is hype, full of bugs or game balance issues with micro transactions which has infected PC Games.

I swear if I see another review of Call of Duty xx, Battlefield xx, GTA xx or Assassins Creed xx or another review of a PSU or a Case or whatever I am going to scream. Not very many review sites actually work hard enough to review outside the box. Without a fresh take, the sites start to blur and you end up in a daze from one website to the next never coming away with any insightful worth while information.

To the guy who has a totally different taste in games, don't worry. All the games you love are being covered by 99% of reviewers out there ... lol

I played several of the games on his list - I've got a few more I want to check out now (aka - add to my Steam Wishlist and wait for a sale). Super Hot and Steam World both look interesting to me.
I'd also add on Sunless Seas for me. I played a lot of this game this past year - though it might a few years old. It's nice to see something different - Sunless takes the cake (for me). I'm sure a lot of people would find it tedious and boring.

I'm not sure if that was intentional or not, but have a like anyway.

For the uninitiated, "WTF Is...?" is a video series that Total Biscuit does on video games, as a first look. So "WTF Is Civilization V", etc.

Nah, totally not intended. Funny coincidence though.

I was more expressing my sentiment about streamers in general :p

I mean, as my title says, I am an old timer. Might as well own it with some "get off my lawn" and "kids these days" comments :p

Some games on that list I have to disagree with but Xcom2 and Doom he got right !
Xcom2 was awesome (got 94 hours into in according to steam), and Doom was a big surprise, only problem was that it was a bit short on single player content (got 42h into it) and the MP was shit!

I like TotalBiscuit hes not a total douche and seems to actually care about gaming.

Doom isn't really my type of game anymore, but I might still pick it up when it goes on an ultra cheap sale at some point, for old times sake.

To me 2016 was a pretty damned good year for games though. I bought three new titles this year, all from "must have" games franchises. These are the first titles I've bought at all since 2011.

- Fallout 4
- Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
- Civilization VI

(Yes, I know Fallout was technically an end of 2015 title, but I was waiting for it to mature and be patched, and I didn't feel it happened until 2016)

42 hours?! I think I only got about 18 hours or so with ~85% completion overall. Which is still pretty good for an SP game these days.

Damn, 42hrs is pretty good actually. MP just wasn't for me anymore, but I enjoyed the SP and got more than my moneys worth for me.

Though we really are just talking one persons opinions of favorite games (biscuit dude) versus our opinions on games, so yea....

I am out of the loop a bit, but why this person? Is there a reason for his top list as opposed to the multitude of other top 10 lists?

He is very thorough, in his video reviews he will go in depth into the minutae of video games explaining why mechanics are good or bad. If the story is hot garbage. My only real complaint is that he is not very objective, certain genres of games he hates and he reviews them through that lens, for instance, he tends to hate loot grinding games like Borderlands or Diablo 3.

He is one of those "YouTube celebrities" the kids are all about these days.

As hard as it is to believe, the kids really like watching some due play games on YouTube.

Who knew?

If only I had thought of doing something retarded like this, I - too - might have been rolling in that Google money.

Who could have possibly imagined this would have become popular thought?

Sure, YouTube is great for the occasional Bob Villa home improvement video when you need to figure out how to do something that isn't easily described in an article, but this YouTube and Twitch streaming nonsense....

Sounds like a "really fuckin' old timer" is jelly of dat YouTube money... :D

TotalBiscuit does not do video game reviews, though, and he has had to explain this multiple times over the years when people start to call him a hypocrite. He does first impression videos, and unlike most people he wears his bias on his shoulder. He gives his opinion and thoroughly backs up that opinion, which is why his WTF is... videos can be up to an hour long or sometimes longer.

His most recent video addressing this in response to his Titanfall 2 video is very good in explaining and addressing peoples' criticisms.

Hey, who doesn't want more money, right?

I just wish my phone hadn't screwed my over auto correcting everything in that post incorrectly.

God I hate phones.

He is very thorough

Maybe, but also long winded and repeats himself ad nauseam. It takes him an hour to say what could be said in 15 minutes. Also has the most annoying pronunciation of "year" I've ever heard and is quite a douche outside his gaming videos.

Still like to hear his opinions on games. @1.5x speed if possible.

Wait, but aren't the things your pointing out make him stand out from others? If anyone just wants to scan one of the many thousands of Rocket League or Battlefield 1 reviews, there are plenty and then some. I don't want a 15 minute review on games I'm interested in. That's the laziest and most uninspiring type of review that's out there. 95% of the review sites out there are ad nauseam. I can't even tell you the last time I've read a review because, well, I read the same thing 5 years ago somewhere else, word for word.

Not many people and their style stand out to me. But then again, I've been a gamer since 83 with my C64.

I will say one thing, no one would ever win an argument with this guy, he would put-game-intellect anyone at every turn.

You know, I thought the same thing. I don't like a lot of these YouTube celebrities. But, I figured I was jealous or something. Just trying to have an open mind.

I see my kids watching them and my nephew, and I just can't stand 99% of YouTubers. They talk almost non-stop. I get it, they are trying to have an online "personality". But, many times, it's best to shut up and not spit out every single thought you have.

I haven't watched Total Bisquit. He may be different. I don't know. I don't mind talking, but there has to be a reason for it. I have the same problem in real life. People just talking to hear their own voice. It annoys me.

Yea, I'd like that money. And, if I spoke my mind constantly on video, I would sound like a lot of those people - idiots.

The other 1% on YouTube, I really enjoy. When they speak, they have a reason to be saying what they are saying. It's relevant. It's worth saying. Great videos (many are of retro gaming stuff). Some are extremely annoying, though. They'll talk and talk and talk and not have much to say.

That's the way I am, though. I don't talk much, and I'm not much for small talk, because I say what needs to be said. It has to have a point. A reason for being said... I can drum up a conversation and talk for hours with some people. Others, it's just minimal because I just say what's relevant...

So, for me, it's not jealousy. It's the talking and the lack of substinance within those words.

Yeah, i'm sorta with you. Video game streaming seems to be after my generation

Total Biscuit isn't a "streamer" like markiplier or whatever the others are called that just do obnoxious things on camera for money. He does stream some games while he is playing, but thats not his job, or where he makes his money. His "show" and job is what he calls "first impressions". He does in depth reviews of video games, showing things that you don't normally see, like the video settings (does the game have color blind mode?, if so what types? Are there FOV options, what kinds of anti-aliasing etc.). He also does first impressions of a lot of smaller games that people may not have heard of. People don't subscribe to his channel to watch him play games, they subscribe to hear his opinion on them.

How is he a douche outside his gaming videos? I'd probably be pretty salty if I had a year or two to live.

He has issues with social media. Basically, he can't help but feed the trolls, and it gets him in trouble. He has left various social media sites and then returned and then left etc, etc, etc, several times due to people trolling him.

I watched it. His videos are usually pretty informative and go in depth about his reasoning. I then watched his 3 hour 45 minute arbitrary 2016 awards. Also informative. I even added a new game to my steam wishlist that he mentioned: Icey. It's supposed to be a combination of the Stanley Parable with a beat 'em up game. Wishlist now up to 535 games woohoo.

2016 was a shit year for games. I actually like Shantae Half Genie Hero. It's a decently good side scroller with adorable animation. Music is pretty decent as well. I should feel bad for liking this game, but ... fuck it I like it.

No, he can do what he does and convey the same information in half the time.

To be fair, 99% of YouTube personalities are caner and not original at all. There are a few that can be worth watching though. But all those vlog channels like RomanAntwood are terrible and hes a millionaire from kids watching his day to day life.

Yeah, some of the "big" streamers are pretty obnoxious...usually the ones who also have to show their face on camera in the corner the entire time (PewDiePie, Markiplier, Kwebbelkop, etc.). But there are many who do Let's Plays and game reviews/commentary that are legit - TotalBiscuit is one, I also enjoy Jim Sterling and to some extent Mack from Worth a Buy. AngryJoe can be pretty amusing sometimes as well.
