Weird Afterburner problem

Using v. 4.3.0 w/ a 980ti. Get heaps of coil whine when using it regardless of whether I use an OC setting or completely stock. If I don't open it there's no problems. Driver changes do not matter nor is there a power issue. Anyone run into something like this before? Most likely culprit seems to either be the program or the mobo is on its way out.

I don't think that this is related to MSI Afterburner.

Some video cards have more coil whine than others. Things like the motherboard and power supply can contribute to it, but DC voltage is inherently filtered and fairly clean compared to AC.

Is this a new card? If so I would exchange it. In my experience, coil whine has always been primarily due to the graphics card. You could try under volting the card and see if that helps. I imagine it's worse during high load? Usually it's much worse at extremely high FPS. Try turning VSYNC on, or limiting FPS, whichever method you prefer. Each induce input lag unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply and it turns out the computer told me what the real problem was. Motherboard finally jumped off the cliff. Has serious power-on issues.

If anyone wants a quick laugh perhaps or just a little schadenfreude since I know most of us have had something like this happen. I recently changed out the PSU thinking it was a power issue (even though I checked my PSU and it seemed okay) but I went ahead and bought a new one because it was the oldest piece of hardware in the PC besides an HDD or 2. However the weird problems persisted. Horrendous coil whine and sometimes loss of video/crashes. Also was having to completely power off the computer after a crash either by pulling the plug or using the switch to get it to reboot. On wed,/thurs it was taking 1 hour before it would power on. Friday it would not boot at all. Eventually after on and off working on it for 2 days I finally was able to get it to boot by removing the battery and all power and letting it sit for ~2 hours. But if I change a bios setting it will try to shut down so I have to run at completely stock settings until I get a replacement. Good times.

Have you tried replacing the motherboard battery? I've had some really weird stuff happen with bad motherboard batteries.

Very recently actually. It was another sign of failure. It corrected the problem of resetting the bios every restart though.
