Rockit 88 Delidding tool?

I have never had bad luck using the vice at least 4 times now. Has anyone tried this tool? Such a nice idea and seems super simple to use plus they have a device that can align the lid and put it back on. Thinking of picking one up.. not sure how much the 6700K will gain from a delid.. I ran my last 4790K naked.

I've seen videos of them using this tool. Pretty neat. I used the vice method with success on both my 3570K and my 4790K .

I bought one to delid my first 6600k. I would suggest sticking with the vise method. The CPU packaging on Skylake and Kabylake seems to be MUCH too flexible, and my first 6600k died due to this. The fault doesn't seem to be with the delidding tool, but the unwanted flexing that occurs on these CPUs. It worked very well on several haswell CPUs I tried it on though as they have a thicker package (that's what she said lol).
 
Probably safest to use a razor/box cutter and make sure you are cutting as close to the heatspreader as possible. Cutting glue shoukd be easier than trying to tear it off and should also put less stress on the pcb.
 
I picked up the tool. the razor method sucks and if you cut to deep on some CPU's its bad news. If it's truly a flex issue I can't imagine the vice method being any safer for delidding when the tool seems to hold it flat and not press it at an angle like the vice does. Knock on wood I have not killed CPU yet delidding and have seen a lot of Skylakes delidded with this tool now that I have been looking into it. Did you run the CPU naked on the 6600K?
 
The rockit tool makes re-mounting the lid, aka relidding easy and accurate. You can align correctly while applying even pressure to allow the glue to set.

Yeah I got the relidding tool also.

Clean the IHS and package thoroughly. Use black silicone/rtv sealer to "glue" the IHS back on, but remove the sealer at two corners, and drop a dot of crazy glue in those corners. The crazy glue will hold the IHS to allow the rtv time to set. That's how I do it.

Very nice.. hell the relids I did in the past I never even glued the IHS back.. I just used the CPU clamp to hold it back in place. This has worked on a few I have done. The last one was ran naked. I will relid this one though.
 
I just realized RockitCool is right near me lol. I emailed the owner because good ol USPS messed up. The owner seems like a really legit dude with some really cool upcoming gear including replacement IHS's etc. He told me to swing by one weekend and checkout the shop. Really looking forward to to the things he has coming.

Never ran it naked thankfully. I replaced the TIM and reattached the heatspreader with adhesive (black silicon type) to keep the heatspreader from moving around. I was then greeted with the wonderful boot code for cpu initialization failure :wtf:
 
I found the razor method pretty quick and easy - the razor is so thin and flexible it's not easy to make a gouge into the substrate. I'd be happy to do it again like this.
(I've never de-lidded anything prior to this attempt)

Though there were points I was thinking "how far can this IHS go, why doesn't it make a noise and comes off?"

There are no small bits one could accidently cut into under the IHS

I know some of the older ones you had to be careful how deep you ran with the razor I just don't like the idea of it. The videos I have seen of the Rockit 88 in action it makes a pop noise when it comes off.

It's just, you need a good amount of force
You can see the IS moving
I just wondered how much further, everything OK?
But it did make a pop
 
I am waiting on my liquid metal before I give it a go! I did receive my tool and can't wait to try it. The quality is really nice and everything comes in a nice little bag to keep it in.
