Should I wait?

Ready to upgrade my pc and am looking at the fx 8350, and was wondering if I should wait for the ryzen release?

Depending on use and your patience you might want to wait for the 4C8T version of Ryzen if you are going to use it for gaming. I'm expecting that the better AM4 boards (X370) will be expensive at least in the 250+ region.

Do you think the 8350 will have a reduction in price with the initial release this month?

Considering the fact that Ryzen is expected to be released within weeks from now, getting the FX 8350 now would be out of the question. The bulldozer era has come and gone. If you must get a rig right now, then intel is the only viable option. Try the intel i3 6100, but waiting is best.

Sure you can get a 8350 and it will do whatever you want since you never said what you was doing. Or you could be like the rest of us and wait for Ryzen.

I have the generation before the 8350 architecture and it does whatever I need. But there are people who want overkill and sometimes its fun to have,

Mainly photo/video editing and occasional gaming
If you are doing all of them now with the PC you have just wait. If you need it for business reasons and need it now go Intel.

Wait, not that long for Zen. It might be perfect upgrade for what you need to do, without spending too much cash going for something else.

AM3+ is a bit long in the tooth for a new build. Wait for AM4 (prolly a couple of months), or go 1151 or 2011 v3 now.

While Zen is supposed to be available before the end of the month, I'd hold off a bit for the platform to shake down some before I jumped on the AM4 bandwagon.

You have a fast enough computer. Save your money and put it into a savings account. When you get old and can't work anymore you will have thousands and thousands by then. You have to start sacrificing young.

If you could get an FX 8 core really cheap, I would do that. Otherwise, if you have not already done so, overclock that FX 6350, that board will do you well for that.

OP, since you already have everything but the FX8350 *AND* the fact that you will have to replace your motherboard and RAM as well if you get Ryzen (or Skylake/Kaby Lake) the FX8350 isn't that bad an idea if you are on a tight budget and need the extra cores.

Having said that I recommend you wait because FX8350 prices will drop for both new and used.

There is no point in upgrading a 6350 to an 8350. The difference in performance will not be worth the cost. Ryzen will be released in few weeks. Just wait.

Sounds like a mostly pointless upgrade. Id lean towards selling the whole system and getting a kaby lake or ryzen. If you live near a microcenter you can pick up a 990fx and fx-8320e for $129 -- i still think thats a hot deal, but i dont you would see any tangible difference without a strong overclock -- then only in video encoding

If you feel like your current system has struggled for some time now, then what's another few weeks to see how RyZen stacks up? 8350's are available now...and they'll still be available then. You'll be able to make the best choice of either moving to RyZen or keeping your current setup and plopping in an 8350.

Id wait. Get ryzen of kaby lake. No point into buying an outdated processor unless you are in a very limited budget. Even if you don't go for either of those there will be more choices soon.
