Why in the world does anyone care what these guys think? Obviously pirates are going to "condemn" any sentence handed down to a fellow pirate. :rolleyes:

“We find the 12-month sentence of OldSkoolScouse which the judge ruled a ‘deterrent to others’ offensive in the extreme and an irresponsible waste of taxpayer resources,” the team told TF in a statement. “One questions the motivations of the agencies and resources assigned in regards to copyright infringements whilst actual criminals walk free. Is this what our legal systems have now become?”
 
That's what you get when a human becomes less valuable than an mp3 file. Does wonders for productivity of society I'm sure, I love paying more taxes for such bs.
 
The law is about protecting and generating tax revenues, (which commerce generates), not people. Is this sort of abhorrent result really all that surprising when you take that into account?
 
I know a person that got 3 years for murder. I think the sentence should be the same as a shoplifter at a retail store. The guy that stole multiple classic cars out of my yard got 3 months.
 
Just wait until pirates get pissed off and broadcast free wifi to the whole world. Pirates setting up multi streaming server torrents in a private network with 512 bit encryption!

Not this silly argument again. Copyright infringement is not theft. It has been beat to death. You can keep calling it theft if you want, but it will not change the fact that copyright infringement is not theft. It is fucked up, and I am sure it feels that way if you are a content creator, but it is not theft.


Copyright infringement without the intent to profit at the level we are talking about in this thread is generally a civil matter and not a criminal one.

I'm not a proponent of the stance, put away your pitch forks. You can grunt and squawk all you want, the authorities have generally taken the stance that this is theft, thus it's in their domain.

Is it right? Probably not, you're making illegal copies, not stealing a product.

There is an upside to this approach for pirates though. If the wronged party (ie the media companies) were to go after people in civil proceedings for any download they would be entitled to pursuing their legal costs from the infringing party. A pirate would spend the rest of his life paying off fifty songs, hosts would live their lives in poverty. Court proceedings and judgement enforcement would cost the public even more than using criminal law does.

If you're running KAT, a year in the clink is your best case scenario.
 
Meanwhile, here in the utopia of Kalifornia, they are releasing criminals early due to lack of space.
The crime rate in LA has now increase 3 years in a row, but they say it has nothing to due with putting more criminals on the street :rolleyes:

At the rate this state is going down the tubes, I don't know if I can wait until retirement to leave.
