Pretty interesting, apparently Stax is launching a new flagship in 2017, along with an updated T2 electrostatic amplifier.

I guess with Sennheiser refreshing it's Orpheus, Hifiman releasing it's Shangri-La, and Mr Speakers releasing a new top of the line electrostatic headphone in 2017, Stax has been feeling the pressure lately to one-up the Stax SR-009, currently sitting atop of the Inner Fidelity Hall of Fame and considered by many to be the best (stand-alone) headphone in the world.

2017 will be a very interesting year for flagship headphones.

What I would be curious to see is a Stax SR-009 demo spot somewhere in a public place and see the reactions. You know when the typical Beats owner steps up, be like, look at this goddamn cable, is bigger than my car stereo wiring, is this taken out from a grandpa's closet? What is this huge thing it's connected to? Where is the bass, this thing must cost like 50 bucks? :)

Having said that, I'm curious what 2017 has in store for us in the headphone audiophile community. The massdrop phenomenon has been a welcoming experience, good headphones at decent pricing.

Haha, funny you should say that about beats. There's a video on youtube of a guy who reviewed the $3000 KSE1500 electrostatic earphone system and concluded he preferred $299 beats headphones because it has more bass.

Yeah that's kind of been the weakness of the 009, which is why alot of people prefer a modded 007. I think that's Dan Clark's main goal with the Ether ES Electrostatic headphone, he's trying to achieve something closer to the Harman Curve with an electrostatic headphone to do away of the impression people have of electrostatic headphones being thin sounding.

Link me to that guy's video please. I need to hear his whole argument about why Beats' bass is worth the trade-off.

My guess is this genius.

That dude claims to be an engineer, makes some mistakes (which no engineer should make), and (for sure) is NOT a sound engineer, or audio hardware designer.
I remember using crappy stock headphones from Walkmen back in the late 80s/early 90s, and then listening to an AKG K240 Pro in 1999; it impressed me with how clear it was (compared to the other crap I heard in the $100 and under range), and ended up being my birthday gift (courtesy of my cousin).
I suppose if you listen to crappy Beats all the time, and all your friends love distorted bass/sub-bass (that isn't even remotely accurate), then you can't discern through anything else.
Jimmy Iovine once claimed that he and Dr. Dre heard things that other headphone manufacturers didn't regarding headphones (on the release of the Beats). I think he was 100% correct -- he and Dre were hearing "cha-ching"!
"Street cred" from Dre? Please ... (yawn). Dude doesn't even use Beats to record his own stuff. Wonder why?
