40" Samsung UN40KU6290 4K $290 at Best Buy (or $265 with $25/$200 Amex offer)

What is the "constant tweaking" to get a Nvidia card to look right?
AMD colors are more saturated out of the box, shifting digital vibrance +10% does the trick and on certain monitors with HDMI you have to change color range to full from limited

I NEED a new monitor but I only sit about 3 feet away tops....Decisions, decisions... (In stock locally too).

So you got used to it huh? How far away do you sit. I'm going to go take a look at it now.

I sit at a normal desk with the TV wall mounted. The desk is right against the wall as well. Now I can't imagine using anything smaller

Two of my friends bought 40KU6290s at Best Buy and they love them. One replaced a 27 inch BenQ 144hz with it, he likes the resolution and size over the frame rate.

If this a perfect display? Nope, however for $300 I think the colors (and blacks) are fantastic for a budget 4K 4:4:4 display. I mostly game on it and the immersion is incredible. The trailing is almost never notable during actual use. Overall this is better than I expected for a monitor, I had a backup plan of using it as another TV if it didn't work out for my PC use.

Thanks for the input folks... I picked one up. Need to find a new 10k desk to put it on:sour: I'll report back later on my thoughts.

Edit: Need to tweak the settings for sure but first impressions are nice:)

Yep, and even if you decide not to use it as a primary gaming panel, it will end up being a glorious workspace/youtube/tv secondary screen option for years to come. Got one for the wife weeks ago and I've been debating getting one just to consolidate my 3 companion screens to just this......

I bought one of these this weekend when it was $380. I was happy with my purchase then but was able to go to Best Buy and get a refund for the difference! I actually really like this TV, using it in my office.

samsung epp has this for $266. Just bought one for my brother since his 5 year old sony just crapped out and served its time, serves as a wonderful christmas present. He just wanted a 40 inch for his room, his bed is like right next to it, lol.

Nice deal though. I almost wanna buy another one as a monitor.. read it does 4:4:4 at 60hz. Pretty bad ass for the price.

10 minutes later: I ordered another one lol. Returning my 27inch hp tomorrow and getting my 150 back, lol. So I got this for 140..

Because of my desk, I am sitting 2.5 feet away. Adapted really quickly moving from a 27" to this. Would have problems moving back to a smaller monitor now, even after using this for only three weeks.

Still trying to decide if I need DisplayFusion or AquaSnap to manage the screen real estate.

So much nicer for games and work use. Had to upgrade graphics card to be able to play games, but it was time anyway.

I had to have one too, gonna consider replacing my 10 year old HP LP3065
no doubt a good value for the price

Hey NKD, I just went to check on the EPP site and it still shows the standard 299 for me.

Nevermind you add it to the cart and it changes Thanks

At $266, this thing is an insane value. I wish I had a use for it. Currently rocking the 48" JS9000 from last year and yes, once you experience 40"+ 4K it's hard to imagine going any smaller. Even the 34" ultrawides are meh after using one of these (and they cost much more, WTF!).

Anyone know the difference between the KU6290 and the KU6300? The 6290 isn't even on Samsung's site, so I'm assuming this is one of those "special run" models meant for certain retailers, etc.

I'm thinking of picking one up for work but don't want to miss out on any major feature(s)...the 6300 is $150 more than the 6290.

It's missing Bluetooth. And it's on Samsung's site right here:

I got one of these as well for $270ish with tax after price matching BestBuy to HHGreg deal. I love the display- great value and looks great. For my casual gaming it works awesome- upgraded from a 1440P Dell Monitor. Paired with a high quality HDMI Cable from Sams Club it works great. I did have the issue with the blue lines etc in the menu while downloading latest firmware- I never seen it again and have had the display for close to a month now.

Any info on these in terms of AdobeRGB and DCI-P3 coverage and accuracy?
How well does it do after being hardware calibrated?

EDIT: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300
I found that. Seems sorta of disappointing, but I guess I couldn't honestly believe that it would be a competitive photo/video editing display. However for $300... it's still tempting.

OK, going crazy here, has anyone noticed that there is a large gap between the lcd panel and backlight? It is most prominent in Win10 when trying to see the little line under programs on the taskbar and it makes the close "X" in the top right corner kinda stand out from the background. Also at extreme angles it makes the edges almost look like they are curved. I'm wondering if this is a design problem or just crap QC because I have returned this TV 4 different times and all have had this gap but they all vary how big it is. my current one is almost tolerable... so I'm wondering do I keep returning and tring to win the display lottery or be satisfied.

There is a gap because the panel is a short distance away from the backlight array. If you've returned 4 so far, just give up. Yes it does look curved at extreme angles, than common for all of these displays and older Samsung backlit displays as well. What you are seeing is normal and you are looking for issues you won't get resolved at this price point.

Yep, most likely a cost trade-off rather than poor QC or design. I also noticed the TV was made from mostly plastic unlike the $1200+ sets I've purchased in the past, but at this price point is that any real surprise they would go with cheaper materials? Anyways, my back didn't seem to mind, especially given how badly this display crushes the Dell U2410 and U2407 it replaced for my wife's set-up, and lighter than both too!

They are all like that.

Well, I decided to pull the trigger today after gathering the information that I was seeking and of course they are sold out everywhere for the $300 price. They were in stock at Newegg and Sam's yesterday but not today. They are backordered on Samsung.com but you can still place an order and it'll ship when they restock. I just went that route since I'm not in a hurry. I don't think my current work laptop will support 4K @ 60/4:4:4 so I have time to get that situation resolved before the TV ships.

Damn, I was hoping that wasn't the case since the 6300 display model didn't seem to suffer from this, nor does my standard monitor. For the most part it is not a problem, but those corners...

Display models of the 6300 have the same issue, you just didn't notice. And it's much harder to see on video content.

6290 is on samsungs site. I think it has a different remote than the 6300
6270 is different remote, no bt, and I think no audio out...?

Has anyone that ordered from samsung's site the 6290, receive anything about shipping yet?

Not shipping, but I received an order confirmation. They are still on backorder (assuming you're talking about a recently placed order - I have no idea if people who ordered before they went out of stock have received a shipping notice yet).

Do you know when they went out of stock? I ordered mine tuesday night, it seems strange that they are still selling it without even letting people know its on backorder. I know when I ordered it there was no indication.

Sorry, I don't know when they went out of stock. I only went to Samsung's site to order one after I checked the usual places (Newegg, Sam's, Walmart, etc.) and all were OOS.

This message was shown when I added it to my cart prior to ordering, though.

Possible you just overlooked it?

My 6290 has the same remote as my 6300. The "magic" remote or whatever stupid term they use. The one with very few buttons and a disc type control in the center.

Where is this still available online?

No Best Buy within 50 miles of me has one. And I'd like to purchase one.

Perhaps I'm just overlooking it, but I still don't see any option to have an open box shipped from that link. Or any open boxes for pickup...

Any help?

Edit.

There it is. Phone browser was giving me trouble.

EDIT #2:

Nope, can't find it again. Only once did the page have an option for open box deals. Now that option is missing.

Does Best Buy remove the option when they're out of open boxes?

I found one over the weekend using the Open Box deals option on BB website. It was a 2 hour drive each way, but worth it in the end. $290 out the door with tax. Still had the protective plastic on it and the batteries for the remote were still sealed in their plastic bag.

So still no update from samsung on my order from the 13th, i called and they even found it strange that it was sitting in processing and was not in backorder. I am really not sure what they are doing i see the pending charge on my card.
