The Division - officially announced for PC!

Oh, one thing you can mess up permanently.... some of the women, uh, are just not attractive. I get that they tried not to "sexualize" them, but IMO they went a bit too far. You can't change your looks after setup, although you can make alts. I'll play female characters not as role play, but because I get tired of looking at man-ass.

So Steam is running the free weekend and I figured what the hell. Anyone have a decent Noob guide or video to watch? Just so I don't completely F*** up early stats or choices etc.

If you enjoy the first half hour of the game then I'd strongly suggest playing through to at least all he story missions without getting carried through by high levels. It's really a pretty good game as far as that stuff goes. Having some decked out guys roll over all your stuff really can take a lot away from the overall game.

If you're bored by the time you get to the base of operations and do your first "big" mission, then by all means; faceroll that stuff with some leveled folks.

Man-ass, the scourge of 3rd Person Gaming. That and the HHH Cups wearing 3 square inches of clothing / armor.

This is what my AB build has been missing (well that and all the uber min / maxed gear, sub 40 yr old reflexes and the few hundred followers willing to throw their god rolls at my feet for a shout out on my live stream... but I digress). How many hours before this becomes the new meta and all the PvP'ers are nigh invincible again?

I'm still gonna build it. :p

--

SkillUp said he's working on a D3-FNC build video, and I'm going to call it now. It will be 90% the same as what I've been trying to build. I should post it first just so I can say I did it first, lol.

Yeah I like that Marco posts these videos, but his builds are super god rolled. Look at that AB holster. Every stat is about 1260. I have exactly 1 item that I would consider 'god-rolled'. Must be nice when you can play with so many people and they can share whatever they want with you.

Frrak, just post your Frontline build here. I'm sure he's not the first one to think up a shield build.

Yea so I know New Yorkers think they're tough, but I had no idea they could take 10 shots to the head with a sniper rifle.

before the rebalancing (1.4) you could empty a hundred round magazine into a heavies head, so, yeah....

So I've sunk 60+ hours into the main game. Pretty much done everything you can do short of grinding for gear. While I'd say I got my money's worth, I was wondering if buying any of the DLC is worth it? I'm only interested in PvE. I noticed the Season Pass is 50% off in the Uplay store, which is tempting.

The DLC's add the Underground (think procedurally generated dungeon), Suvival mode & HVT's (this may be a freebee with 1.3 patch, don't remember); all of which is PvE. The huge rebalance they just did was all PvE related (PvP is coming). If you enjoy looters like Borderlands and Destiny, then I'd say it's worth it. If you don't like a loot driven grind, then no sale price will make this game more attractive.

I've got over 600hrs in the game, and maybe 3% of that has been PvP.

Okay, here is my quickly thrown together WIP D3-FNC build. Shots are at 4k, but the forums should scale them to your screen size:

5CzyLu.jpg

This build is Built around the Ballistic Shield and Overheal Skills, and the D3-FNC Gear Set.

thldyH.jpg

We're just going to pretend those Kneepads are my 4th piece D3-FNC, okay? Okay. Like I said, WIP. Otherwise it will look roughly like what you see above; lots of Stamina, decent Firearms, and as much Electronics as I can muster after those two are taken care of. Ideally Skill Power would be over 120k without sacrificing the other stats, but we're getting there.

zihHNn.jpg

Main weapon is a PP-19 with Responsive, Destructive and Brutal. For sustained fire, Meticulous wouldn't be a bad talent on this weapon either. I also have an Aug for burst fire situations, an M4 for back up, and the SCAR-H if I need long range.

GmYkRt.jpg

You can see most the weapon mods here. D3-FNC removes all CHC & CHD from the SMG, so I've built for HS Damage, Stability, Accuracy, Reload Speed & RoF. Since I'm pulling agro, it wouldn't hurt to have a Loud Muzzle either.

53Z48N.jpg

Better shot of the weapon and mods. It is stable enough, losing the grip mod doesn't really hurt it apart from potential stat increases.

yvJGnn.jpg

Next we have the Vest, which forcuses on Armor, Stamina & Ammo Capacity. Ideally it would have "Enemy Armor Damage" over Damage to Elites, and higher stat rolls, but it will suffice for now.

qxpMsC.jpg

I picked up on MarcoStyle's Mask idea and incorporated it into my build. I'll expand on why in a moment. Ideally this would have near 10k Skill Power instead of Exotic Damage Resilience, so I'm still hunting for a better one.

J6h3mm.jpg

Resuorceful Backpack because I'm using the "Kenetic Breaker" Shield mod that gives me a % of the damage done to my shield back in health. With this BP, that health also applies back to my Shield. This is further synergized by the Refreshed Mask, which will also buff my "All Damage Resistence" when proc'ed. This can give me over a Million toughness for 10 seconds if used correctly; over 3 million if combined with "On the Move".

k0ZG3v.jpg

Gloves with SMG damage buff. Again, ideally these would also have Enemy Armor Damage. I keep a pair of Savage Gloves in reserve in case I want more DPS.

TCAxIE.jpg

Would love to find one with higher main stats, but I'm not a famous Youtuber so.... maybe 6 months after the last patch is out. As always, Armor is the top priority, and as high of stat rolls as you can get.

a4D255.jpg

I'm running Critical Save, Triage, Adrenaline and On the Move. The Health giving Talents because they will heal both me and my Shield, plus allow for 10 seconds of near invincibility if timed right.

All my Gear Mods are 5% Damage Resilience when running as Tank, I have an optional DPS setup as well. For this I switch my Ballistic Shield to the Assault Shield mod (extra dmg & stagger), Savage Gloves and 4% Damage Increase on all the Gear Mods. This hasn't seemed to speed up the time to kill substantially enough for me, but I honestly didn't try it for long.

iQcaqe.jpg

I've had a lot of fun with this build. It doesn't have the speedy kill times of the AlphaBridge and Predators Mark builds, but I'm Tanky as an Abrams A1 and so long as I'm doing PvE, can take a "give no F's" playstyle. PvP is a different story. All they have to do is split up and one or more get behind me. As long as I can protect my back, I can usually hold my own, but this rarely happens. They flank and throw stun grenades and eventually I go down. Every now and then I'll get a couple inexperienced players who are intimidated by it, but it seems 98% of the time I only run into trained professionals who have read my full dosier and know all my weaknesses. Ah well, at least they've been rare situations so far.

This was my biggest disappointment with the game and why I ultimately skipped it. I realize why they did it, but setting it in the real world seems like a mistake then. People who like the game for the most part defended it at launch because "RPG", but no idea if they still do.

Guy takes 10 rounds to the head due to an armored hoody, but one hit from a bat and you are dead.

I could understand bosses since ultimately they are most likely wearing body armor, but the armored hoody is just a big disappointment.

Hey Frrak, I think you are using too much stamina for your build.

In my current experimental build I am using a 93R with striker set.

TtlzLnS.png

I could probably move out some electronics, I only need 3832 for coolheaded.

The build is plenty strong. I can run lincoln tunnel on challenge, although a bit slow.

Up close I can build the striker stacks unbelievably fast. After a fight:

mwMPfo4.png

The 93R is just an awesome weapon, highest ROF in the game I believe although 20 round magazine and only muzzle attachment, 3 shots per pull.
You also never ever need to bother with ammo which is way cool.

WIth coolheaded on it there is like always a heal available. If you find one with a decent secondary talent, then dump the low heath buff for coolheaded.
Low health comes after armor is depleted so the enemy is about dead anyway. Mine does bleed, and with shrapnel it is a guaranteed bleed for everyone

also, if you are testing the ballistic shield mods, you have to throw the shield away and make a new one before any damage mods will apply. It is only 4% per, but 16% permanent buff is pretty impressive now.

Just saw the special blueprints vendor is selling a 182 m44 (sniper) blueprint. it is a must buy for potential alphabridge users since the lower gear score requires less crafting material and less stats to use the skills.

Good info, thank you. I will keep experimenting.

I'm currently off moving my youngest across country (literally, we're looking at 22 hrs in a Uhaul), so I won't be tinkering for a day or two.

Good luck with that, Frrak, drive safe.

I was hoping to put aside some time to jump in this weekend, especially since there's snow on the ground in New York (although 50's tomorrow so wtf).

I got another Barrett's chest. Pretty good roll. Is there anything I should change?
OuprPDv.jpg

Played the free weekend for a couple hours last night, bought the game and season pass when I got home from work today and am up to 9 hours and loving it.
Yea I just bought the Gold Edition as well. That free weekend must be paying off for them since it wasn't really on my radar.

Question about the season pass material stuff we get. As a new player should I leave those rewards until later? Don't want to waste them on stuff that will be trashed in a few levels.

there is a rewards vendor in the back of the BoO, you may need to unlock him. He will have level 4 stuff, so.... it isn't going to be tremendously useful. There also is a supply drop twice monthly. Not sure if it comes at low level. Also not a big deal. The fixed the regular game to give much more loot with respawning bosses in the LZ - every 4 hours, vs 10 minutes in the DZ. The game used to be a horrible grind, now it is just a grind. :) Anyway use what you can and don't worry about it.

Well, SkillUp had some similar ideas for his D3-FNC build, but as usual, he makes me look like an amatuer ( you were right jiminator ). Some great pointers on what he feels is the highest DPS build in the game at the moment:

Well shit, now I am going to have to farm SMGs and the D3 set to compare. My shield/striker/coolheaded combo is definitely strong but it is a bit slow to kill. lol

Anyone have a code they can sell? I saw this was for sale for around $15 dollars at cdkeys or something.

Rather keep the money within our community here on hardocp.

PM if you do.

What settings do you guys play at? I have a 980ti, i6700k and play 1440p and get dips into 40s sometimes. I used the default gfx settings. With gsync it's ok but i still notice. Any settings worth turning down that I won't really nice and will save FPS?

I found one a legit key on one of those key sites for 20

I just upgraded to a 1070 today and I'm running Ultra on everything at 1080p, locked 60FPS with Vsync etc. Save frames by turning down shadows, and playing with lighting levels.

Go for the worst offenders first: ambient occlusion and shadows. I have AO set to low, contact shadows to low, shadow resolution to medium. Next, things like reflection quality (med), and particles (med I think).

eh, finally got the marco loot grind thingy to kind of work. still have a crappy build but I have been able to chain together some decent runs. he does not give a good place for the shield. it works for him, since he makes 1.5 million crits with his sniper, but I only get 600k at best. What I have found is that the shield has to go as close to the wall as possible in front of the police car before the two ambulances. It is faster to get there and gives the max time to get the runners. the gunners also don't do as well. the shield on the ambulance seems like insanity. takes too long to get there (only the second one works) and it is hard to place and the runners will be climbing it at that point. the shield also does not last, whereas it will from the police car.

I played during the free weekend and I really liked it. It was the first game in a while that I kept wanting to go back to, so I bought the Gold Edition. It looks like I'm supposed to get supply drops and things, but I don't see anything on the map. Am I too low a level (11), or do I need to find them? It also looks like there are rewards I can redeem, like Master Crafting Kit and DZ keys. No idea what to do with that. It looks like the DZ is the PvP area?

DZ is the center area of the map. It has a much scarier feel. There is greater boss, enemy and rewards. There are lots of chests, the DZ keys open the high end chests, which I don't think you will be able to use. Enemies drop the keys so they are not that big a deal. Crafting material also, you can break down loot into materials. Also regular enemies now drop it, so not a big deal.

I just learned a trick for anyone doing pistol. Mouse wheel can be bound to fire which is how many rapidfire the x-45 and such.

Oh supply drops.... They happen twice monthly, the 1st and 15th. I think the current one is in the center of the right area of the map. It is yellow, brighter than the other marks. And.... maybe you won't get it until level 30. The enemies there are probably going to be tough for you.

Place the shield on top of the first truck there you're covering to. Yes you have to be really quick with it. On your very first run into the tunnel, you can hop up there and place the shield first before you active the bomb tech. But after that, it's very quick. I sometimes lob a nade there at the wall, then hop up, place my shield. But still you may have enemies rush you. It takes timing and practice. If they rush you on top of the truck, hop down and fall back, then just try to headshot them as they rush you.

You want to be on top of the truck if you have an M700 to activate Elevated. I think I have the perfect weapons for that run. I have M700 with Brutal, Disciplined, and Elevated, with Competent, Skilled, Commanding. I can definitely crit for over a mil, when tac link is going.

EDIT: forgot to mention all my mods are Mobile Cover Damage Resilience.

Yeah don't worry about DZ until level 30.

(There's always a caveat... The DZ is a PvPvE area that is populated both with enemies who will attack anything, and other players who may or may not hurt you. You can group up with players to form a team, but anyone not in your direct group can attack you and "go rogue." If you die, you lose your DZ loot (you can carry only 9 at a time) and you cannot use that loot until you extract it. There is a tutorial or something, I'm pretty sure. It's been a while. The DZ is a dangerous place, has its own currency and XP, and there are breakpoints where the enemies' difficulty scales along with your level. These are Level 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, and 25+. That means if you are level 14, you will face enemies in the 10-14 range. If you are level 15, that means you can face enemies as high as 19 - this is obviously not that great even if you have good gear.)

The rewards are not all locked behind level 30 but it's not that important in the early game. You can go 1-30 without really worrying about any of that extra stuff, just enjoy the campaign.
