The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

TRYING to listen to more dialogue but I really just don't have patience for it.
This.

The story can be amazing with some of the best voice acting ever, but a lot of times I'll just read what they were going to say anyways and skip it to get to the game play.

My impatience is by far my weakest quality as a male.

Man every time I talk to Triss I like her more than Yen! I think it might be too late. =(

Welp, this is one of the longer single-player games I've played. I think I'm nearing the end and I've played around 80 hours, including most side quests and contracts but not including the treasure hunts; there does appear to be some very good stuff in the treasure hunts, but I've ignored well over 90% of them unless I incidentally came across the treasure. Still tons of question marks on my maps but I'm really looking to just finish the game now so I might check them out in new game plus.

80 hours and nearing the end. What level are you? lol. End is at about 120-150 hours depending on difficulty if you did all contracts and side quests.
Also you got 2 expansions left.

This game has so much dope in it and you are missing out. Its side quests are longer than other games' main quests.

I'm sure that I did a majority of the side quests and contracts but I didn't do most of the treasure hunts, didn't play Gwent (I bet that adds up in hours), didn't do a majority of the horse races, and had lots of question marks left on my map (probably related to treasure). I finished the game, got a good ending, with just over 80 hours on the Steam clock (85 to be exact, but I spent at least a few of those on pause while outside grilling). I thought about buying the expansions during this past sale, but I think I'll wait until the Christmas sale; I have way too many games I need to play and that list grows every time there is a sale and I learn of something new (recently was informed of the Darksiders franchise).

I'd like to play Witcher 2 but I want to be sure I get the gamepad control scheme setup correctly; I'm guessing I might need to find a mod for that.

Really wish I got a 360 shot of the attached image.

Edit: Oh yeah, I think I finished around level 31.

Edit 2: I finished at level 35 and the game seems to have exited on me before it could create my final save, so I was unable to do New Game +. I restarted from a point before the final part of the end-game scenario and was able to get a proper end-game save. I'll probably do the horse races, the fist fights were fun...

I'm in the high 40s almost done with B&W. I finished Hearts of Stone then finished the original story just dragging my feet on B&W as I don't want it to end.

I know how you feel. After I finished blood and wine I was happy because it was a fitting conclusion of Geralt's story, but I was sad because the game was over and it is unlikely we'll see another Witcher game for a very long time if ever. In any case, I am super excited for Cyberpunk 2077. The development on it is enormous.

The game will be "more ambitious on every single front, in the development and on the marketing side," Iwinski said.

In March, CD Projekt Red's Adam Badowski described Cyberpunk 2077 as being "even better, even bigger, even more revolutionary" than The Witcher. At the time, he described the mysterious title as a "huge game" that has a magnitude "much greater" than The Witcher series.

Overall, CD Projekt Red has "amazingly large ambitions" for this game. To support its grand vision for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red president Adam Kicinski said during an earnings presentation last month that the studio plans to at least double its headcount, which currently stands at around 400 people."

I just got an email from GOG telling me that they've added a copy of the GOTY edition of W3 to my GOG account, because I have the base game and the DLC.

I assume they're basically the same thing, but it seems nice of them anyway. Does the GOTY edition include anything extra that buying everything piecemeal didn't?

I wish that Steam would let you "complete the bundle" with this, but I think it's a separate listing from the base game. So when the game goes on sale I can pay $30 for the GOTY or ~$25 for the DLC alone.

Haven't played the game in quite some time. I finished the vanilla game a few months ago. I haven't played either HoS or B&W yet.

My GTX1070 should be arriving today or tomorrow. Can't wait to start NG+ with the new card and playthrough again and hit the expansions.

I'm playing through again as a Sign/Bomb focused character. Got bored of the sword/oil build as it's basically just slash dodge slash.

Just started this game on sunday, about 6-8 hours in and man, this game took the crown AND the head of skyrim as far as genres go...

Funny you say that.. I tried to go back and play Skyrim SE with its release - I was bored within less than an hour. The world is just so dead in comparison, and the narrative is non-existent. This is coming from someone who absolutely loved Skyrim.

Yeah, Witcher 3 sets the bar absurdly high for narrative in an RPG setting. Everything else feels dull in comparison.

So, I just got done reading through the last 50 pages or so of this thread, careful to avoid spoilers and I am left with a few questions.

One - the controls are really intuitive for me. Did GOTY edition 'fix' a lot?

Two - Combat is very tight and responsive, solid 8/10 for me. Was this also fixed?

Three - I'm really exploration heavy, is it necessarily bad if I find stuff early? Like... relic swords and stuff? (found 2 so far)

Four - How do I get more time in the day (real world) to work and enjoy this game? :p

Combat has remained more or less that same. I'm sure they've made some tweaks along the way, but nothing major. Opinions vary a little about how good it is, but most approaches involve hitting foes a few times, dodging, and repeating that. It's effective enough.
Movement has gotten better, though. The game shipped with movement that felt delayed and even a little tankish at times. It's much more in line with games like Assassin's Creed or Dark Souls now.

Exploring is a good thing. If you can survive, there isn't anything you find that will ruin the game. If anything, it will just make you stronger. The best stuff tends to be the stuff you have to build yourself anyway.
Quests that focus on specific locations aren't affected by going there early. If anything, they'll just make teleporting back there quicker.

You are the man, thank you very much!

My favorite thing about this game, so far, is that I can actually wander into a location that's got red skulls (or a single monster) and have a chance if I preform perfect execution.

This was immediately rewarding for the level 14 wyvern I found at level 4. It turned into an EPIC battle on a Cliffside overlooking an ocean. Much fun was had that day.

So far the expansions are even better, having a blast playing them.

Do we know if there will ever be more expansions or is this it?

Unfortunately, this is it... at least for Geralt's storyline. That is coming directly from CDPR themselves. Whether or not we hear back from other characters from the world is unknown.

I think this is a great decision by CDPR out of respect for both the fans, and also Geralt himself. All good things must come to an end, and I would definitely welcome any other stories/games they wanted to use in this world.

Yeah Geralt must be really tired by now.
How about a sequel where he goes on holiday?

I'm okay with them ending the series with the Blood & Wine expansion. It's a high point and I can't foresee them doing anything better without some kind of technological sea change. That gives them the freedom to put things to bed for a little while, but they can always come back when technology advances. The first game is borderline unplayable these days, so they could always revisit those events down the road. Maybe in VR or whatever breakthrough finally gives us another "GLQuake moment." Until that happens, they might as well just leave things as-is.

I'd love to see something like a custom Witcher rpg. Back in the heyday of Witchers. Start off as a kid, choose your Witcher school, mold & customize your character, complete the training and set out on your own epic adventures of monster slaying and plowing strumpets.

Witcher 3 won't stay in Fullscreen, please Help!!!

So I've gone through the usual channels of trying to google the issue with full screen on this game and I can't figure this one out. I decided to do a fresh install and install the game of the year edition, and now my game won't stay in full screen. Borderless Window works, but as soon as I go to full screen it minimizes the game and won't reopen.

  1. I've tried switching the user.settings and user.settings.bak from 1 to 2 manually, still minimizes and won't open.
  2. I've tried switching my monitor from 75 hz to 60z, setting the game to "unlimited" and switching to full screen, still won't open in full screen, have to use windowed borderless.
  3. I've tried disabling free sync, switching monitor modes and sticking to 60 hz, won't stay in full screen, minimizes immediately and won't reopen.
I'm not sure what the issue is, it worked on the non GOTY install, but I flat out cannot play in full screen mode, and borderless hampers my performance a bit.

Specs are as follows: 2500k, 16 gb of ram, R9 Fury Nitro, 840 EVO ssd, HP Omen 32 inch 75 hz freesync monitor. I have the latest AMD reLive drivers 16.12.1.

Thanks in advanced.

Edit: Freesync not working in borderless either, what a mess, I'd love to be able to play my favorite game but since I reinstalled the GOTY edition it's not working right. :(

Check and make sure you have no teamviewer software (screen sharing) installed, or anything similar to it. Some VPN softwre can affect it too (odd, I know).

Are you using Steam or the GOG version?

If using Steam, have you tried verifying game integrity?

GOG version, freesync is working now, but it's still borderless windowed mode, killing my performance.

EDIT: I JUST DID THE SAME THING IN GOG AND IT WORKED! I LOVE YOU! <3

So you just did the verify option inside of GoG Galaxy? Glad it worked for you!

Happy Witching!

Where at in the game are you?

YUP! It worked! I actually finished the game last year, all the side quests, main story, and HoS. I decided to wait a year to get an upgraded graphics card and monitor before I jumped in and play Blood and Wine, so just getting into the second expansion :D.

Congrats man! I love this community when we actually help each other. :p

Sometimes it just feel like people whining about hardware and games.

Dude, totally with you here, but I haven't done either expansion yet!

I upgraded from an R9 280X to a GTX1070 - wanted to wait until this upgrade to start NG+ and then playthrough again and then do the expansions for the first time.
