Wow, we are actually getting a new MechWarrior game in 2018. I like how MechWarrior 4 came out in 2000.

…what we do know is that MechWarrior 5 is a completely standalone singleplayer game being developed by Piranha Games using a separate team than the one currently supporting MechWarrior Online, its multiplayer-only CryEngine game that went into open beta in 2012. MechWarrior 5 will feature "intense PvE ‘Mech combat in an immersive, career-based Mercenary campaign driven by player choice." If you're not too familiar with the series, MechWarrior is the tactical FPS offshoot of BattleTech, where players pilot a single BattleMech and issue orders to squads (called 'lances') of AI-controlled allies.

Well we can only hope this is awesome. Piranha has been lack luster at best to deliver viable content and the slowest map release system ever. The online MWO has been a cash grab game so I hope this turns out to be something great. I sure hope the graphics are much better than what this video shows.

Interesting. Altough I only played Mechwarrior 2, which I got with my voodoo1. Damn that was 19 years ago.
But this is what I want to hear:
completely standalone singleplayer game

AI-controlled allies

"controlled".......that is debatable.............

The games were great, your AI lance-mates were dumber than shit though. I don't mind the graphics from 4 or 4: Mercenaries (actually still have the beta disks for this one) so I'd be happy with more content (story and Solaris matches) and much better AI....which shouldn't be difficult.

MW2: Mercenaries is one of my favorite games of all time and MW4: Mercs isn't far behind although it didn't quite live up to the original. My main concern is oversimplification. The Mechwarrior games have always been arcadey sims with about 25% of the complexity of a serious sim, basically XWing with mechs. Modern mech games like Titanfall are more like 1% sim, if that.

I got it with my Sidewinder 3D pro. Such a great joystick but, alas, it needs a serial port.

After such a long wait, please don't be terrible!

As an MWO backer, Im seriously concerned about PGI being able to deliver as well... Will only buy if full retail game ;)

Mercs were always better than the normal since it felt like the choices were better, plus market upgrades and salvage and all.

Speaking of mech games, did any of you ever play Cyberstorm? It was a turn based hex tile game and it was fantastic!

Oh, the memories! Come to think of it, I only ever played the demo on that one, might be worth firing up. Front Mission 3 on the PlayStation was another great turn-based mech game.

Mechwarrrior 3 was one of my first games that I played multiplayer. So much fun. Loved making LRM boats with as many LRM20 as possible and using the alpha strike button, resulting in instantly destroying the mech due to core overload.

Plus the mech startup soundbite... I was like wtf is nominal.

Hell yes.

Vengeance's intro still makes me beg for a live action mechwarrior movie franchise. So much to choose from, and the tech today could make those fights absolutely epic.

Fingers crossed.

I would absolutely love a VR mechwarrior. That would be perfect.

I could see Oculus being very good with this. Piloting a mech would be a heck of a lot better, as long as it's implemented good.

I just tried out the VR at Best Buy. Man, I'm actually excited to see what it offers in the future. In a few years the video cards required will be lower in price and more software, less bugs. oh yeah!

Mechwarrior Online was a lot of fun (until you learn all the pvp meta, and then you just uninstall), but I think that scenarios suit the franchise better than deathmatch. I hope it's good!

I'm interested, the potential is there.

P.S. I still have a Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro 2, which is USB and still supported by Windows 10, it's ready for action.

Finally caught the date and it is set in 3015. Damn. I was hoping since 4: Merc was set in 3066/3067 that they would move the time line forward with the rest of Battletech and we'd get a 3100/3145 time frame. Oh well, still better than years of nothing!

i HOPE its good, i really do, because I loved the mech games. and i have a lot of hours in MWO, but that was 50% because i had friends there and 50% because there was no other outlet to get a mech fix in. PGI's development team has taken what, 5 years to create what boils down to an arena shooter?

im not holding my breath.

Well, ya know, sequels and all. :p They gotta milk the cash cow while they can (already doing that with MWO, which I have sunk more money in than any other video game in my life).
Hopefully, they use a more amenable engine than CryEngine for Mechwarrior 5.

I own Steel Battalion for the original XBOX with controller. I hope it can play as well as that does.

I can't even remember the last Mechwarrior game I played, other than it was beyond Mechwarrior 2, which I replayed over and over. Also, Mech Commander was just a great game and that's what we really need a re-make of.

A new single-player focused mechwarior game?

Sign me the f*** up.

Well, looks like MWO if I recall it correctly. It was fun but they didn't handle things well (PGI). Not sure about my feelings about their ability to script a single player game.

Will be great if it is open campaign where you can really develop your unit through multiple missions, Mech customization, AI pilot skill growth & experience coupled with a decent single player story. Half the fun of the very first Mechwarrior game was that you could pick and choose missions to grow the strength of your company then blast the shit out of anything that stood in your way.

Fond memories of charging into battle with 4 Battlemasters in full EGA glory ;)

I loved Mechwarrior , not sure how a mech only game would fit today, i`d defiantly play it.
