Hey guys! Just wanted to drop in as I picked up one of these over the BF weekend as well. My colleague also picked one up. To those that have backlight bleed/glow, I too have it on my panel from Costco as does my colleague. My colleague picked one up as well and has some bleed/glow from the corners. At certain angles I also see what looks like dirty screen effect on the screen. Black uniformity isn't the greatest, but it's not the worst either. When I'm actually using the monitor I don't notice it, plus I've seen a lot worse.

I also notice a bit of motion blur, but it's not substantial enough for concern. I notice it mostly when dragging my grey Google Chrome windows around as the title bar lags behind the rest of the white window. Also when closing or minimizing windows I notice the response isn't quite as fast as the LG IPS panel it's replacing.

How does this all affect real world usage? I guess that's up to the user.

Also, it's been forever since I hopped on HardOCP....dang!

What is your FPS when you're experiencing screen-tearing? FreeSync works between 48 - 75 FPS with that monitor. Anything higher or lower and FreeSync won't work.

Try enabling a frame-rate target of 75 in AMD control panel, that will limit your FPS to 75, keeping it within the FreeSync range of your monitor.

I set it to 74 FPS and it worked immediately, setting it to 75 still caused it to tear.

First post. :)

I am connecting 2 of these monitors to my Asus STRIX 970. I will connect the primary to DisplayPort but are there any recommendations for connecting the 2nd monitor? I would like 1440p on the 2nd monitor but will not be using it for gaming. Here are the available ports on my card:
  • DVI Output : Yes x 1 (DVI-I), Yes x 1 (DVI-D)
  • HDMI Output : Yes x 1 (HDMI 2.0)
  • Display Port : Yes x 1 (Regular DP)
  • HDCP Support : Yes
The easiest option (given the cables I have at home) are HDMI to HDMI or DVI-D to HDMI. Are there any benefits to using DVI-D to DisplayPort or DVI-D to HDMI?

Thanks,

Bazz

Wowza... If you qualify for PerksatWork (3rd party EPP-type program thru your employer email), they are currently offering 20x WOWPoints psuedo-cashback for HP.com. If you have 5 star status from using the program, this bumps up to 30x, which is ~30% cashback, depending on how you value the points -- can be redeemed at a number of retailers, for gift cards, etc. Pretty sweet if you don't care about ordering from Costco. I have my Costco units sitting in my apartment... so torn!

I think you're going to find this kind of bleeding in most monitors. This guy is probably edge lit, so black uniformity is just not going to be 100%

I checked out the one I'm returning as well, looks almost identical. I think you're 100 percent dead on. Monitor looks amazing for the price regardless.

That's a good omen ;). What are you doing with all of them?

I think my monitor may have a fatal flaw, freesync does not appear to be working :(. I have it in freesync mode and freesync selected to ON in AMD RADEON Settings. As soon as I shut VSync off in any game, everything starts tearing. I've tried changing the display port cable, nothing seems to work. Does this version of freesync only work with Vsync on? The last monitor I had to shut it off. I'm hoping I don't have to return this one I really like everything else about it.

Go to AMD gaming free-sync mode from the quick view settings. It's the second option down. You should get a big banner that says free sync on at the top left as shown in my video. Then limit to 75hz either with vsync or AMD framerate target control through the catalyst drivers.

Don't return it till you watch this vid timestamp. 25:14 and 27:15

I imagine everyone is using displayport for these tests. Does HDMI do 75Hz over that resolution? Wonder if there is frame skipping there. If not anyone know a track record of maybe a firmware fix or something from hp? I think someone mentioned they ship these monitors with NVIDIA card HP systems so I would think it would pose a problem for a lot of people....

Does HDMI 1.4 support 75hz?

Mixed info. So not sure.

I know display port does. People should be using display port.

Got mine today. it's huge compared to the 27" Crossover.

BLB is much less on the Omen, but I may have banding in Blue toward the right of the monitor, noticeable during the Win 10 shutdown screen.

Other than that, this would be awesome if my Crossover wasn't 144hz. Debating on keeping this. I wish this was around before I grabbed the Crossover in the summer to replace a dead Qnix.

Oh I kept one of the monitors, I just had one from Costco and one from Amazon. THIS thing rocks and I do have the Freesync working with a frame limit. Very close to a perfect display, I'll certaily be using it the next few years. Thanks for all your info and help, much appreciated!

Oh I thought you were saying free sync wouldn't engage.

Tried CRU with 100hz, AMD RX480. It loads, but massive frame skipping. No Frame Skipping at 75hz.

Got mine today, hooked it up running with freesync enabled (not sure if that does diddly with NV GPU) at 60Hz. So far it's wonderful. No tearing or motion blur I can detect ye. Just played about 30 minutes of BF1. Damn this monitor is big! Love it so far.

Just got mine today, to those with dual or 3 monitors, how do you like it? Debating on getting a 2nd one.

I have the LG 38UC99-W in front of me know and WOW to bad it's cost more than 4 of the Omens :(

I had my eye on that too. But that is the cost of five omens.

If it had dropped to $1k I would have picked it up to try. As it is that monitor at $1500 has extreme markup written all over it. I knew I'd never get anywhere close to my money back in resale. As it is with three Omens I figure I should lose about a max of $300 total when I sell them in a few years. (Figuring I can sell them for a couple hundred each used)

In a year or two I suspect you'll see a sale on that size panel for $700 new and maybe 500-600 for used.

My local Microcenter has it for $1299.

$1400 after tax is out of my comfort zone, but it looks like one of the best displays currently available. Congrats on picking one up.

Played on the monitor for a few hours straight last night and I gotta say I'm pretty happy. No tearing, the color is great and I have not seen a hint of motion blur yet. Best $300 I've spent this year. THANKS OP!

Someone hook a Leo Bodnar up to this sucker. We need lag numbers...

That banding is bad, get a replacement. Mine did this too until I had mine replaced.

I think its common to have a bit of banding though. My replacement has a little banding but you'd be hard pressed to look for it though. Your's was worse than my original and I thought my original was bad.

Yeah, I don't mind a bit of error, but when it's too distracting, something has to be done about it.

It drove me nuts in GTA V or any games with night scenes on the right half of the screen.

Well, just requested a full refund on Amazon.com and ordered one from the HP store, fingers crossed it comes with no defects, since I'm actually considering a 2nd one.

I hooked my Omen up alongside my HP ZR30W and did the clock test. Average over 12 different samples was 3 ms faster than my ZR30W. Which puts the Omen in the 8-11 ms range, depending on where you find the input lag of the ZR30W. Either way it's faster than my ZR30W which I do not notice input lag on.

Don't you need to set the OMEN to some gaming mode or something to get the 5ms it claims? got mine today but haven't set it up not home. Hope mine has no insane Bleed or Banding I honestly don't even want to buy displays anymore the amount of awful Quality Control on monitors is really unacceptable and I don't understand how it goes on lol.

HP will take care of you warranty wise. They gave me a $250 coupon due to issues with mine.

It has 4 settings for response time, don't know the difference between each, didn't test them after I noticed the terrible banding issues in my unit.

There's another response time option in the menu as well.

You are thinking about two different things. One is pixel response(what you are asking about) and the other is input lag(what I am trying to demonstrate).
