Dishonored 2

Patches 1.1 and 1.2, beta or not, are making steady improvements.

There's still room for improvement, and I'm hopeful they'll do that in addition to the New Game+ and level select stuff proposed for December.

looks like the patch is out of beta as an update just queued up for me...I'm finishing up the 2nd DLC of the first game so looking forward to starting DisHonored 2 shortly

I didn't get an update today. Do we have to opt out of the beta branch to get the official updates or does that happen automatically?

the final 1.2 version didn't release today...the public build was updated, but only to bring it in line with the beta patch build, ostensibly to help the game's review score on Steam...1.2 proper is still in development

Spoilers about ending and end game discussion:

Finished my first playthrough: Non-lethal, no supernatural powers Corvo. I *think* I got the best ending but I'm not 100 percent sure. I non lethaled Delilah as well. Megan Foster = Billie Lurk with a tease at the end of her going to find Daud is great. I did find the ending rather brief even though I understand this is hardly a happy feel good fairy tale and there's DLC forthcoming.

It's amazing to think just how much of an impact Daud has on pretty much everything. I know we have to see him before it's all said and done.

\Damned good game.

Glad you're enjoying it, I am too.

After some time off I finished my 3rd playthrough. 1 Clean Hands with Emily, another non-lethal with Corvo, a High Chaos with Corvo, and now I'm in chapter 2 of a "no powers" run with Emily (taking a break atm). Your ending does sound like "best possible". You will hear it in Jessamine's commentary if you use the heart much. High Chaos will have subtle differences in the world beyond just more bloodflies. There will be more animosity between the people you meet, more disputes, (similar to America during a Presidential campaign). You will certainly see it in the epilogue. The effect on the person you save (Emily or Corvo) is not as pronounced as it was in D1, but is still there. I'm curious if it will play any role in the DLC'S.

How did you like the no powers run? Any problem collecting blueprints? I've had a hard time making some of the jumping puzzles with a controller, much easier with KB/M on PC.

Based on what you're saying I think I got the best ending.

I had some times where I thought "gee, if I had this power this would be easier/fun to experiment with" but I'm glad I tried it without powers because it made me play this like a more traditional stealth/Thief like title. No "cheats" or "shortcuts." ;)

I have been using KBM and never had moments where I felt tempted to try a controller. KBM is solid.

I think you will enjoy your "powers" run all the more now. Playing Stealth I had a lot of fun with Emily's "Domino" ability, however both her and Corvo have so many varied approaches it is hard to pick a favorite.

I own both the PC and PS4 versions, so it's been interesting experiencing the game on both platforms with their respective peripherals. Both felt well done, but as an old fart that started with KB/M, it will always be my preference.

I fully upgraded Domino before Far Reach (and actually before any other power), if you can believe that.

My sequence went: Domino, Far Reach, then Dark Vision.

I did Far Reach first, but only the range upgrade. Then all of Domino, then all the the Bone Charm to Rune crafting. I had 40 bonuses from charms at the start of the final mission, and enough whale bone to craft 7 more Runes. Really miss that ability in my 'no powers' run.

Is that flesh, steel, and... high chaos?

I can't imagine doing a ghost + non-lethal + no-powers run. I'm planning no-powers Emily to be speed-run to minimize the high chaos.

Not exactly, but close. Previous runs were strictly "Clean Hands" + "Ghost" or High Chaos to the Nth degree. My no powers run is aimed at being non-lethal / undetected, but I'm not letting myself reload a Save this go around. If I bork it, I deal with it. I've still managed to keep it Low Chaos so far, but it hasn't been entirely non-lethal. Surprisingly though, I've managed to still knock most guards off balance and choke them unconscious. Not when swarmed mind you, but if it's only 1 or 2, I can usually keep one between me and whoever else, give them a punch when they get close and then choke them out. If I alert a whole area however, I either have to flee or go High Chaos. Admittedly, this is probably my favorite run so far. It is the most true to life, which adds a unique excitement back into the game.

what is this 'Adaptive Resolution' setting?...I would think it would be best to turn off but when I disable it then my 'FPS Threshold' setting automatically goes to 30...if I try and raise the 'FPS Threshold' setting to 60 then my 'Adaptive Resolution' setting automatically changes from 'Off' to 'Manual'...

Though I'm still kind of confused whether the numbers refer to % or FPS. Sounds like it's % but that one guy in the 2nd link says it's FPS...he may not know what he's talking about, though.

I figured it out with some trial and error...at first I thought the 'FPS Threshold' referred to the frame rate limit but there's a separate setting for that...the 'FPS Threshold' only refers to the 'Adaptive Resolution' setting...so I disabled it and set the Limit to 60 and everything seems fine so far

I'm still very early in the game (just neutralized Mortimer Ramsey) but gameplay feels top notch once again...I love the little callbacks to the first game (Pendletons, Hound Pits bar)...I'm not having any performance issues at 1920 x 1200 with everything set to Ultra as it seems to run between 50-60 fps but the graphics aren't that impressive...textures look muddy and there's an overall lack of detail up close...hopefully things will improve in the graphics department but either way Low Chaos stealth play is a lot of fun

What's your difficulty level set to?

The textures are muddy due to the TXAA implementation. Even with the "sharpening" turned up it's blurrier than I'd want but the alternative is the absolute weird aliasing I see in the geometry and along texture edges.

In Dishonored 1 I was able to force MSAA and rid myself of the FXAA blur, but even with Reshade I can't get the textures to clear up.

I'm playing on Hard...TXAA and FXAA both add blur but I usually prefer TXAA if given a choice between the two...I left the sharpening at the default level of 10 as I heard it makes the aliasing worse the higher you set it...hopefully some nice Reshade presets get released soon...

Nice! I'm actually happy that I haven't had much time to play this. I'll be able to complete most of it with these patches in place now.

I'm up to Mission 2 and the graphics seem to have improved a bit...weird that they changed the voice actor who played The Outsider from the first game...he had a nice distinctive voice...the new voice doesn't sound as good but is played by a more well known actor (the guy who plays Penguin in that Gotham TV show)...I looked up the voice actor list and they kept the same actors for Jessamine and Sokolov which is good at least...are they going to explain how Delilah escaped from the painting I trapped her in from the first games' DLC?...is the DLC even canon to this game?...seems like all of a sudden she's Jessamine's sister

It's all canon, it all gets explained, and it all matters.

what's wrong with the civilians in this game?...they're all so jumpy and paranoid and easily go hostile for no reason

There's usually a reason.

Don't carry bodies out in the open, or do anything that would raise suspicion. Holster your weapon/power, and don't go using powers in the open too. Neutral areas mean you won't be attacked by guards, but try to be on moderately good behavior (i.e. don't steal, pickpocket, so on).

I didn't think using my powers in front of civilians would be a big deal as it didn't really matter in the first game...but I think that's why it happened...

I'm up to Mission 3...fantastic gameplay and level design...I think it's even better then the first game...the graphics are disappointing but I do love the overall art style...is there no option to replay individual Missions like the first game?

what a fantastic game...too bad the PC version launched with so many issues as this is GOTY material...I'm getting a bit of a Bioshock vibe from the first few levels

WTF was waiting for a sale on this....And Steam puts D2 up for $40USD today? 33% off sure beats retail.

level design is amazing...right up there with the best of From Software...I'm up to the Clockwork Mansion mission and the design was incredible...I think I ran into a bug or maybe I'm doing something wrong...in Mission 4 at Jindosh's mansion there's an arc pylon in the Guest Area...I disabled it (underneath the floor) by removing the whale oil but it still keeps zapping and killing me...it even shows as being disabled...bug?

I think that might be a bug.

I thought the level design was absolute genius in this game. Some of the best I've seen.

Game running great so far with settings cranked in 4K on my single 980 overclocked.

Very much a fan. It's been a very long time since a game had me this hooked from the get go. KB/M controls take a bit to get used to, but oh well.

  • Changing the settings from TXAA to FXAA and not applying the change sets the TXAA Sharpness to 1 instead of its previous value
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting a controller during gameplay may cause the controls to become locked

    • ----Alt-tabbing or pressing the Xbox button on the controller should return controls
  • The game crashes to desktop when loading into gameplay on a Phenom II processor

    • ----Phenom II processors are currently not supported
  • Adaptive Resolution can get stuck at -1 when restoring video settings

    • ----Changing the V-Sync option will allow the Adaptive Resolution slider to move again

Must be the same as the beta 1.3 patch I have install bc it is not up on Steam yet for me.
