I am looking for a new gaming laptop for under $2,000 (after tax) to get on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, and I was wondering which of these you think would be best for the money:

Thanks for this link from the other thread: https://www.imperialgames.com/blog/best-gaming-laptops/

Any other recommendations are welcome, especially if you see any deals for the holidays.

Thank you.

Obviously the 16gb one. I have 32gb and it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overkill. 16gb is overkill for games. Unless you run multiple games at the same time.

And why the hell are you worried about "only 16GB"?

A simple check shows that the machine can be upgraded to 32GB if it becomes necessary.

Anyhow, they're all more or less the same machine. Aside from the 16/32GB thing, the only real separator is SSD+HD size.

If that's the case, figure out if the extra disk and SSD space are worth the price premium to you.

I used this computer for almost 7 years, so I was planning on using the laptop for around that long as well. That's the only reason I was worried about the 16 vs 32GB RAM. But since it is easy to upgrade like you say, I may go for the 16GB.

I've got the Asus GL 502 VS and it's a great little computer. Comes with 2 ram slots (1x16gb the other empty) and 1x removable m2 and 1x 2.5 drive. The 256gb stock drive is a PCIE samsung 951 (was in mine at least) and while not NVME, it was still hella fast. I think the stock 1tb HD was a seagate but not 100% sure since I swapped it out for a 1tb SSD, as soon as I received it.

IMO, focus on the graphics card. I'd get the cheapest spec that comes with the graphics card that I wanted. Then upgrade all the other parts myself, since nowadays (until you get down to ultrabook class notebooks), the graphics card is the only thing soldered on the mobo and not user upgradeable.

I ended up buying the Asus GL 502 VS with the 16GB RAM for around $1,500. I think I got a good deal.

I recently bought my first ever gaming laptop which you can see in my sig and could not be happier with it. If you buy a Razer Blade from the Microsoft Store you get 10% off with a student discount. Super portable, amazing performance, and I have yet not found a game I couldn't max-out on the built-in GTX 1060. The Razer Core is perfect when I am at home and want to game on my 1440p monitor.

Mine is a pricey setup overall, but I could not be happier with the laptop itself. Macbook-level build quality, and incredible that they were able to fit the specs of it into a chassis that thin. Just a suggestion b/c you mentioned $2k and figured i'd throw a bone into the discussion. If you'll mainly be gaming at home (which I mainly do too but like having the portability too) then any one of those would be a good choice.

OP, you might also want to consider the Alienwares. Right now they have a 10% off (which actually expires today) using code XOXO10. If you want to stick with the GTX 1070 then that one is $1,699 and with 10% off it would be $1,529. The GTX 1060 model is $1499. With 10% off that it'd be $1350. Both have G-Sync panels, but only start with 8GB of memory and for $100 you get 16gb. And yes, 16gb will be plenty enough for years to come. 32gb is entirely unnecessary for gaming.

I think the first link will be best choice. I would have gone with Asus but 16GB is not that much considering the long-term goals. Besides I don't know the price. if the price is lower of ASUS then go with it. But the first one has a better SSD so you will already have a significant difference.
