RIP Newegg, you weren't good lately anyway

The nail in the egg for them will be if they have to start charging everyone tax like Amazon does, as that is the one thing I think keeps people going there is that even if Amazon and Newegg price match, Newegg can end up being considerably cheaper on big ticket items.

I still buy pretty much all of my PC hardware from Newegg, but it's a combination of the facts that they don't charge tax to most states and their 'free money' promos like the current $25 MasterPass promo.

It's a shame to hear that about Newegg but I honestly haven't used them much lately. The only time I buy anything from Newegg is if it's out of stock on Amazon and last time that was the case it took Newegg so long to ship the item and get it to my house that the item was back in stock on Amazon with Prime shipping 3 days before I even got the package from Newegg.

Oh well, guess I'll just stick to Amazon exclusively from now on. I have Prime and their rewards Visa from Chase so I won't really miss Newegg.

NewEgg has been super shady lately. Especially with their "deals". 580 refurbs costing more than 970s, ect.

I'm not surprised but it is kinda sad. I remember having to mail money orders to newegg when I was a teenager to buy parts.

Newegg has been going down the crapper for a while now. I use to use mwave.com a lot, but their site layout is stupid nowadays.

Mwave was my go to because their warehouse is barely a 10 min walk from my home. However, they nixed will-call, their website is among the worst in this segment, they never have stock on items I actually want, and when they do have them in stock they have non-competitive pricing. IDK how Mwave stays afloat.

Newegg (and Phanteks) are also very close to the Mwave warehouse, so Newegg still consistently gets my business. After RTFA'ing, it seems the Chinese company isn't interested in nuking the Newegg brand, which is logical. Not sure why everyone is talking like Newegg is going out of business.

I don't think any of us think Newegg is going out of business. We just feel it's been getting worse. It use to be the go to place, it simply isn't anymore. Prices are about the same as anywhere else. I've only had to deal with their customer service twice, which wasn't bad. That was like 10 years ago though. So have no clue if their customer service is better or worse.

I just dislike the layout and the inclusion of random other companies. At least I still have the option to select "Newegg" only and filter out those random marketplace options.

I do avoid Newegg like the plague when I'm in S.Korea. Those Koreans will steal the crap out of your boxes, cause they figure it'll be something expensive it in, which it probably is. Their computer component prices are more expensive. I remember buying like 6800 NU or something, where it was double the price on the Korean economy compared to the states. No one ever received their Newegg packages out there. They should have a blank packaging option and use a different like subsidiary name on the package too. So I was using Mwave a lot.

Can people stop repeating this? Amazon doesn't charge sales tax, your states does. Amazon didn't use to charge sales tax in my state but Newegg always did. I have to pay sales tax on all of those sites. Even NCIX US charges sales tax here now to; but their prices are absurd these days.

Yeah - Amazon doesn't charge tax unless they own property in your state...and since Amazon seems to be on a kick to own property ~everywhere~ as of late, soon you'll likely be paying them tax.

But with regards to Newegg - until I see they're not just another Rakuten, the only thing I'll buy from them will be my yearly renewals to NOD32.

If it wasn't for the tax I'd buy all my parts from Amazon, its an extra $30 on my 1070 if I buy from them so B&H will likely get my money now unless a black Friday sale comes.

I only shop from Newegg because I'm in NYC and anything coming from Jersey is automatically one-day shipped and tax free.
Newegg sucks otherwise though.

Going downhill for years. I've dropped personally over 50k buying parts at the egg over the years but its my last choice right now. I have the license plate frame and all the swag blah blah

How do you make more money when you have hit a soft limit in market penetration? Charge a little more. Offer a little less. Cut a little staff. Pack a little cheaper.
"feels" like they have done all of those.

At the moment i use the egg just for hoverhound. I will buy from them but it has to be a insane deal or out of stock everywhere else.
Amazon may make it a bit hard to find the right parts but the are everything now that Newegg USED to be.

I was just at their will-call office here in City of Industry CA, which is super awesome btw... it's like a candy store for us tech nerds. Anyway, the guy at the front desk was completely oblivious to the fact that they were just bought out by a Chinese company. smh..

That's what I like the least about this. The fact that it happened so under the table and shadily that not even their employees know.

Fuck Newegg. I got a premier membership earlier this year as my brother needed parts and I knew I would be possibly ordering stuff.

Put in an order Sunday. All my items were "premier" items. I received my case on Tuesday, most of my parts Wednesday. My CPU cooler did not even ship until Wednesday! Seriously? A "premier" item with "rush processing" takes 3 days to ship? Maybe they shipped the order from China where processing is slower..... Definitely not the same Newegg but they have not been for awhile. Shit has been going downhill for a long time but I figured maybe the slide would stop ;/

"The deal is expected to aid Liaison Interactive in .. a gigantic expansion into the American market". I can't wait. Chinese VR for everyone.

Lately I have been using MicroCenter or Fry's. I like that you can pick a CPU and then any compatible motherboard to make your own combo, not just what someone wants to get rid of.

I've been using Newegg for the past couple of years, even got the 1 year Premier service (free with 100$ gift card from Groupon). Haven't had any issue with their service or customer support. One package did not get to me even though DHL tracking showed it as "delivered to front door". A quick call to their support line and it was "investigated" and refunded within a few days. They also gave me a $15 gift card for the trouble.

Oh man MWAVE was the BOMB back in the day. I ordered and built so many custom K5 and K6 systems for people from MWAVE. I checked out their site the other day and it's just sad.

I just picked up some parts from Newegg Will Call warehouse. I never had a bad experience from them (yet)

Yea until they screw you on a return, keep your gift card amounts, turn your free game bundles into a retail cost item and deduct that from your gpu return... oh there are just too many newegg tricks to list off the top of my head.
I returned $2,000 worth of monitors last year over the course of 1 month, didn't cost me a cent and they didn't even ask any questions. Although I do have Premier (free for .EDU emails).
I returned a GTX 770 which came with a game bundle, I returned the unused keys with the card and they docked me $60 anyway. Talked to online CS, they refunded me the cost difference and gave me a $10 GC for my trouble.

I fucking love Newegg. My only complaint is that they don't handle returns as quickly as Amazon.

You don't find it ironic that their policy is to screw and steal from the customer, then make them work for it to get a proper refund? I dunno how you cannot see that? You should NOT have to call them to get your money back the right way, the first time.

They were physical code cards included in the box, according to the CS rep the agent who unboxed the card couldn't find them. So I assume if they had found the codes in the box, I would have gotten the full refund in the first place. $10 for a 5 minute chat with CS is fine by me.

If this were a consistent problem, I might be more upset about it. I've bought and returned so much stuff over the last 10 years without any hassle, I can write-off a one time issue.

You didn't find it strange that the person who unboxed your card didn't find the codes? Nevermind that the codes/card do not have a retail value as they are a bundle provided by AMD, not Newegg. But that doesn't stop Newegg from monetizing the codes to profit with. Charge 60 bucks for random game, and take from the buyer. There's a lot of ways to look at it or explain it away. The one thing though is that it's not a one time thing. If it were, how would I know that that was exactly what had happened to you??????

Btw, a member of [H] just returned his 1060 ftw to newegg and they screwed him out of his gift card credits. They just wiped them off the refund lol. Now he's got to fight to get them back, like wtf? I should pm him this thread.

Look, I get it, everybody on the internet loves to hate Newegg. I see it everywhere, lots of horror stories.
But I've only ever had one bad experience with them and they made up for it. Frankly, if I could talk to CS and get $10 everytime I return an item, I would love to do that.

I have nothing bad to say about Newegg, sorry to disappoint you.

That's because they got caught trying to steal from you lol.

Just order on Jett.com. Seems like most of their electronics are shipped to me from Newegg anyway.

I would like Jet.com, but they hit me with the 8.875% taxhammer as I live in NYC :(

So no, haven't bought from them yet (even with their codes, it ends up being just as expensive as Newegg).

Besides, there's a Micro Center which is a 10 min. drive from my house :)

newegg is still best for comp parts, Chinese products sold by Chinese company? amazon is for socks and underwear ... ha

i buy specific items so bf never really helps, ne is putting up a lot of krap sales this bf so far though

Yet. Grasshopper. Yet.

It has nothing to do with "loves to hate". It is that most all of us have been screwed by NewEgg too many times to ever say a nice thing about them again. Most of us were buying NewEgg back 10+ years ago in the glory days of NewEgg when it was run by great people who treated customers right.

I've been buying since 2003 and the only complaint I have is their change to GPU return policy.

I have Premier (free for EDU email addresses), maybe that has something to do with it.

The problems of NewEgg existed before "Premier" was even a thing. Premier is IIRC a fairly new thing

I've had to return lemon products that didn't work, it happens after all, but was charged restocking fees....remember I told them when I returned it that is was a lemon...they were not only restocking a lemon to their shelves to sell to someone else--they were charging me for it. I've had items I paid new retail for clearly come in open box condition. It has happened so much I don't even shop new on NewEgg anymore-since I almost never get sealed-in-retail-bags equipment from them.

And I count myself lucky, as I've never had to deal with the bent LGA socket pin con-game that NewEgg has played.
