Yikes! Talk about a hostile work environment. While the CEO of GrubHub claimed that almost 20% of his employees thanked him for the warning letter, that still leaves 80% of his workforce in fear of being terminated for voting for the candidate of their choice. Is that even legal?

If you voted for Donald Trump, you may not feel welcomed at Grubhub. The CEO of Grubhub, an online food delivery service, sent a company wide email Wednesday suggesting employees who agree with President-elect Donald Trump’s behaviors and his campaign rhetoric should resign. “If you do not agree with this statement then please reply to this email with your resignation because you have no place here,” wrote Matt Maloney, Co-Founder of Grubhub. “We do not tolerate hateful attitudes on our team."

Well, this means that you get fired based on your vote?

Is this not a raw example of voter intimidation? I'm sure the DoJ will be investigating.

I wish I worked there...so I could be part of the "hostile work environment" lawsuit.

Oh....sorry. This is just another example of liberal "inclusiveness". LOL. Remind me again what political class riots, loots, assaults, and kills when they don't like what happens? Yeah...the grubhub class...

Sue 'em like gawker.

Meh. Article felt like Fox needed some clickbait, the actual email does a decent enough job differentiating between voting for Trump and actually agreeing with the shit he said/did. I voted "for" Trump and I agree with the CEO of GrubHub. My vote was 100% anti-Hillary, if I thought a 3rd party had a chance in hell of winning I'd have gone that route instead. Trump is a potato, but even a potato is liable to do less long-term damage to this country than Hillary.

Simple fact of the matter: when someone is not on the clock, actually on paid work time, they're not technically an employee so, because I seriously doubt anyone working for Grubhub took time while on the clock to go stand in line (or maybe they got done quick, I have no idea) and actually vote regardless of their choice of candidate.

This is discrimination coupled with harassment on a pretty big scale if that email was company-wide and I'd say it gives lawyers a lot to feed on (pun very much intended). :p

Come to Texas. They have something called At Will. They can fire you for no reason at all. At least you got a warning.

Yes, but in a right to work / at will state you just say "your services are no longer needed." Under no circumstances do you give them a reason..And you certainly don't say "if you voted for X, you need to resign'...unless you want to be sued

Did you read the same email I did? How exactly is it harassment or discrimination to state that "demeaning, insulting, and ridiculing minorities, immigrants, and the physically/mentally disabled" is grounds for termination?

I use this service every week or so. It's one thing to be upset about the election but the riots and bitching, and shit like this needs to stop. I won't use them again.

"While Maloney seemingly calls out Trump supporters at his company on the one hand, the young CEO boasted about the company’s supportive and inclusive culture on the other, saying he “firmly believes that we must bring together different perspectives.”

Except if you don't think the way I do you need to get the fuck out.

I laughed, till I cried.

So you're damned if you don't bake a gay wedding cake, but it's okie dokie to discriminate against your employees based on their political bias? Ok...

Not necessarily, I am not aware of a precedent where someone has done this exact thing before and no enforcement action was taken. Obviously, in this case, there has not yet been enforcement action taken against GrubHub. If there is enforcement action against this GrubHub individual then it will be found that it is not ok to discriminate against an employee because of their political beliefs or to create a hostile work environment because of their political beliefs. Alternatively, if there is precedent that it is not ok to discriminate against an employee because of their political belief or ok to create a hostile work environment because of their belief then it is not ok and enforcement action should be forth coming. If it is illegal to do it and no enforcement action comes..............then you have a double standard by selective enforcement.

That's EXACTLY it, if he would have just said that (without mentioning Trump) he would have been fine. For example:

Acceptable memo: Employees are not permitted to be racist bullies

NOT Acceptable memo: Employees are not permitted to be racist bullies...like that fucker Bob in accounting.

Makes sense, thanks

I wont use grubhub anymore, fuck this guy.

I've seen some people saying "but but but but all these racists got so mad when Obama got elected so they shouldn't be hypocrites"

I'm pretty sure the day after Obama got elected people weren't burning American flags in the street and standing in droves stopping traffic on the interstates. Protesting when civil rights have been violated is one thing, but these so called "protesters" are just whining because they didn't get their way, it's not really the same thing and they should STFU and go home.

Its a odd position to be in.

Personally I feel workplaces should stay out of peoples politics and not try to influence their employees.

That being said, I can off the top of my head think of over a thousand things Donald Trump has said on the campaign trail that would get you fired if you said them at work, so if you think, and speak like Donald Trump, I don't necessarily think it is a stretch that this might result in your termination.

If you left your company's critical information on an unsecure server, you'd be fired, so they should be warned if they ACT like Hillary, they're going to get fired.

Come to think of it, she was fired.

A person's beliefs should NEVER be used as grounds for employment, we live in a free country where there is freedom of speech, and if that means someone wants to be a hateful bigot, so be it. Anything else will be discrimination. The only time it should ever be considered is when it affects the workplace, i.e. said employee harasses a co-worker. And we already have rules and laws covering that type of stuff. We don't need a thought police at work as well.

Because this is how it works:

Progressive CEO: "I saw this on your Facebook page: "I believe illegal aliens should be deported in accordance with our democratically enacted immigration laws."

Progressive CEO: "The term 'illegal alien' is offensive, it demeans immigrants"

Employee: "No, I'm not talking about legal immigrants, I'm referring to illegal aliens"

Progressive CEO: "You're clearly a racist, you're fired".

SOunds like he is creating a hostile work environment. Time to report him to the labor board.
I heard something of interest. Obama has been in office for eight years. The most killings, attempted murders, drug related crimes, what have you, are in counties held by democrats. So Trump saying he will help the inner cities and schools might have got the vote from the odd Dem state and won over the swing states.

This crap happens after every election. Same thing happened in 08 when Obama got elected. Same shit, different year, different side.

Come to Texas. They have something called At Will. They can fire you for no reason at all. At least you got a warning.

They have that in Florida also.

I worked at a shop about 5 years ago, the owner flat out told me after I started working there their earnings had went to record levels.

Received 3 large raises from the day I started for 3 quarters, the the owners started dropping anti Obama religious literature in the break room, I forget the anti Obama movie that came out in 2012.

Bet they actually left envelopes in the break room with every ones names on them with instructions to see the movie with 20$ in them. I politely told the owners wife I' going to return this, as I have no intention of going to the movie.

The following Monday morning I was told by the owner "my services were not required anymore" with no grounds.

Didn't matter, I went out and found a better job pretty fast.

I need to find one again these days, haven't had a real paying one since Honeywell Aerospace outsourced the Tool Shop there years ago to dump the IAM union employees over the protests of the in-house Senior Engineers.

There were only of us even working in the Tool Shop at the time do work for 8 plants, and maybe 6 people in inspection in the IAM. We repaired and built everything from Avionic/Gyrosopic test stands, THAADS, 10 PIGA, MIMU's, IFOG, ERSLAMMER, Predator avionics, F-15K, TALON, that's enough alphabet soup.

Some programs that still are not public.

I was even the Shop Steward ATT, I was the Safety guy for the Union when the went through OSHA STAR certification, I was the first guy the main OSHA inspector wanted to speak to when the group came in to do a multi day inspection. On reflection maybe I should have tried to tank the thing :p

Honeywell had it's insurance rates drop dramatically receiving that, I still want to flip them off after they dumped us right after.

They just wanted to dump any union ties.

Corporate from the other side of the country decreed that. They had a PHD walk through the shop doing a statistical analysis that had to have what the vast majority of the precision machinery even what it was.

He had no clue how the Hardinge Precision Lathes, various Mills and Grinders, etc even operated, but he was the expert.

Thanks for the info OP. I'll be boycotting Grubhub now for sure.

That is absurd!

Lets hope the CEO is fired and there is massive backlash against the company. I feel bad for their employees but an example needs to be made of this.

People just need to chill out and relax, it's not like it's the end of the world. And I live in Canada. We've got more to lose from a Trump presidency than almost anywhere (except Mexico) because he says he's going to kill NAFTA. Maybe our Prime Minister Babyface McFrenchfries will be able be able to work that out with him, Trump doesn't seem completely unreasonable.

When racist bullies is a code work for anyone who disagrees with me and has the balls to say it, then yes, that's a big problem. Companies shouldn't try to dictate what people do legally outside of the job.
If they do, they should be prepared for the consequences.
I hope they're not a public company.
