One of the reasons America is great is that we attract the smartest people from around the world to come here and learn and often they end up staying and working here.

Liberia has never been subject to Western colonialism, and in fact you can only be a Liberian citizen if you're black African by law. They are independent, free, and... oh yeah, the third poorest nation on the entire planet, since no outside greater civilization ever came in and built roads, railroads, ports, trade hubs, hospitals, factories, etc. Per capita GDP in Liberia is $454 a year... think about that.

Meanwhile, Britain came in and built South Africa basically out of nothing (they had no roads, bridges, nothing), and has a per capita GDP 15x greater than Liberia.

Personally, I prefer making 15x more money and having the amenities of a modern civilized city with clean running water, flushing toilets, and enough food to eat, than being riddled with EbolAIDS and having to poop in the street, but that's just me.

They've gone downhill so much in recent years. Their shipping and return policies now suck unless you pay for premiere.

I tend to browse on Newegg and buy on Amazon. Amazon may cost more and charge sales tax, but it's worth it to know I can easily return something if there's a problem.
 
i havent bought from them since i had a fraudulent purchase of a gift card on my travel card (i travel to unsavory places of the planet and change my card every few months as a result of shit like this) and they refused to tell me where the card was sent. i mean, "i bought" it and they were NOT interested in helping resolve it at all. now they're owned by a Chinese company? I mean, that'll definitely improve their moral stance.

My whole rant was about how ridiculous our immigration policies are to obtain citizenship and how we actually send them BACK, because we DON'T let them stay...

I use the egg to search (LOTS better search engine than amazon), then hoverhound to price check. Once in a while the egg is better, I can get same day delivery since one of their distro centers is right on my way home. Can't get any easier/faster than that. I also have prime, but I check regular delivery and get the $1 credit towards books & music. If you order one thing at a time, say you want 10 things, instead of one bulk order order 10 separate things. You then have $10 credit. Pays for prime in no time.

I think its automatically worse that more and more American companies are being bought by China, or effectively only sell Chinese products. I think it bodes poorly for the US.

However, in general Chinese companies tend to have more immediate ambitions for maximizing their profits, and so aren't typically as long term brand conscious as American companies, so without worrying as much about reputation are far more likely to try and pull a fast one on you to maximize profits.

They were great for the first 3 or 4 years they were open. Then went down fast. I haven't bought anything from them in years. Good riddance.
 
I will still buy at Newegg, if they don't lose the pictures, descriptions and reviews. Just try to find out where the USB header is on a motherboard on Amazon. Amazon is worthless for product details and a lot of Amazon reviews are written by complete morons, that I'm amazed have enough money to buy anything. I will also shop Amazon, Walmart, BestBuy and anywhere else to get a good deal on the right product. Shipping time isn't critical for me most of the time, so Prime doesn't buy much for Amazon there. That marketplace crap sucks on EVERY website. Amazon, Walmart, Sears, etc.

I absolutely do not agree that Liberia has never been subject to Western colonialism. I find it incredible that so many people share your view that Liberia was never conquered or colonized, just because their Western colonists were black. (They were even called the American Colonization Society, for crying out loud) The American colonists were not returning home. Most of them were not originally from Liberia, almost none of them shared the culture, language, or ethnicity of native Liberians, they did not intermix with native Liberians, they actually violently oppressed native Liberians and denied them all political rights. In every possible way, it was just a typical Western colonization.

The Liberian colonists did bring roads, hospitals, factories, and ports. And they kept the natives from enjoying the fruits of that infrastructure, which led to the coups and civil wars that destroyed the economy in the 80s and 90s. Same could have happened to South Africa, had it not been for a couple of world-class statesmen. Still, Liberia's GDP has quadrupled since 2002, while ours has remained stagnant. (And while Ebola certainly drops any country to the bottom of the "places to live" list, it was hardly caused by the country's politics)

Would I rather live in modern, free Ukraine or Slovenia, even with their small economies, rather than in the USSR, despite it being the 2nd largest economy of the world? Absolutely.

You wouldn't be making 15x more money. You would be producing 15x more money. You would then make 2x or 3x more money and the other 12x or 13x would be going back to your master's country as taxes.

Personally, and I admit this is no more than a personal preference, even if I could make 15x more money, if I had to allow my country to be conquered by China or Russia to achieve it and then I had to kneel before every Russian or mainland Chinese I came across and call them Master and let them control what I can say, what I can read, what laws I will have to live under... I'd rather that they keep their 15x. I'll take my 1x and my freedom. Maybe it's just because I watched too many 80s movies. Maybe it's because freedom really is worth sacrificing for. Maybe it really is just a personal preference.
 
I've used newegg for well over a decade, never had a problem, most items arrive within 5 days with free shipping. Big items usually show up in 2-3 days whether free ship or not. Recently I had problems with a rebate company, called newegg, nice lady gave me a credit. Long as they don't start pulling shenanigans I'll keep using them.

A whopping ~3K black Americans moved to Liberia... oh the humanity! Besides that was back in 1840, so I think the small influx of African-Americans into the African self-governed state does not count was "Western colonialism", and makes it obvious that the non-interventionism by the civilized West is the reason for the crippling poverty and backwards state of the nation, and if anything the American blacks brought knowledge of civilization to the region, improving quality of life (along with quite a bit of money, as a charity state... and in fact to this day Liberia receives considerable charity from the international community, or it would be even more poor and backwards).

I was comparing per capita GDP, so literally how much you make. Regarding cost of living, the taxes are not that much higher in South Africa, and those taxes pay for roads, hospitals, working toilets, things that most people enjoy having. Fact is, the average person in South Africa lives much better than in Liberia, and its thanks to Western colonialism.

You think Liberians or Singaporeans or Hong Kong or others on an individual basis can do whatever they want? In Liberia, you're taking orders from General Butt Naked (yes, that was really what he was called, and is basically how you'd imagine if a ghetto American rapper got to run a country... except also a cannibal), and doing whatever he tells you to. Singaporeans are run by a dictatorship since the end of WW2, and Hong Kong are run by the Chinese.

The colonies didn't have to literally kneel before every Brit walking by and call them master, they just had to obey the laws put in place by the British government, which were more equitable most of the time than their previous rulers.

Back on topic though, to add more to the NewEgg conversation will just require time, as they are likely going to see changes in management and probably in the site itself, so only time will tell. After all, I don't think anyone has ever heard of the Chinese mobile company that purchased a controlling stake.

In any case, I reserve my right to be grumpy that every year we lose our businesses to foreign countries... my Vizio TV for example is now Chinese owned too. I don't like this trend.
 
They need to lose that All Sellers crap. Some of the prices they stick in those are ridiculous. Obvious scam.

With Chinese ownership I'd be concerned about the quality dropping, them selling open box parts as new parts and possibly receiving stuff pre-infected with malware/keyloggers.

The Chinese simply do not have any scruples, and I'd be extremely cautious.

I've been preferring Amazon lately, but I still absolutely hate Amazon's fuzzy logic search results. I've almost bought the wrong thing so many times because it doesn't allow me to enter exact search terms. I NEVER want to see things similar to what I am looking for when I am shopping. I want ONLY EXACT RESULTS.

With Amazon if I search for a GeForce 970 it will mix in 950's and 960's as well, and that is completely unacceptable. So easy to make a mistake and get something you don't want, and then you have to pay shipping to return it.

Awful.

The only way I've found to shop Amazon is to browse on Newegg, and then use HoverHound to buy it on Amazon.

Last major order I placed online was about 5 years ago, so I guess that fits. Too bad...they were easy to deal with. I could have sworn that I'd have used them since then, but you are mostly correct...they went belly-up in 2012.
 
The last time I bought something from Newegg was 8/4 and that was a flash drive. Other than that it was 7/26 because I bought some hardware for a computer build and they were the cheapest. But Amazon I buy from much more frequently because of Prime shipping and generally their prices are similar. Newegg has been going downhill since they went public.

Speaking of newegg, they recently gave me two $10 off $10+ coupons. I spent that shit for nearly free items, and I'm probably not going to shop there until they give me more coupons
 
Neweggs sales practices and customer service had gone down the toilet years ago. I was once a loyal customer, but never again will they see a dime from me. I've found Amazon to be more honest and reliable.

And not just businesses, but property too, as they have bought a crapton of realestate particularly in West London, with British down to owning only 58% of the property, and at this rate soon to be majority-minority land owners in their own land. Ethnically, they are already minorities down to 44.8% of the population being ethnic British.

Some people questioned why in the Sci-Fi Firefly that everyone was busting out Chinese words in the future... get used to it ben dan bai ren!

Probably hundreds of thousands of people in my state buy from Newegg and don't file it on their taxes.

I did it for 10+ years before I even realized there was a law for it. Even if you view Newegg's tax policy on their site it never says to check with your state about filing sales tax.

Even if I take my taxes somewhere like H&R Block, do they ask about it? Just... weird laws.

The smart businessmen in China know their country(and the world, to a slightly lesser extent) is in a massive bubble, so they are buying up valuable foreign assets (specifically real estate) for when the whole thing implodes. They know their money is essentially worthless and that the system backing our currencies is a house of cards waiting to collapses. I still think it's a huge mistake for western countries to allow such massive foreign real estate investments though, it's essentially selling off your country piece by piece to the highest bidder, and they're doing it with worthless fiat currency! What could possibly go wrong?

As for Newegg...hell, who knows. They've been awful for years, they don't have much further to fall. I've actually had pretty decent dealings with many of the Chinese companies I've bought stuff from over the last few years. This just might be an improvement

I like the Thai system much better, where you can rent from a Thai, but a non-Thai can never own property in Thailand. That way if a rich guy wants to rent property from you for 20 year leases, sure, but eventually the property is always back in Thai hands, and a Thai is always making money from that property.
 
i gave up on newegg when i got a GPU and they promised a game .. they claimed i bought the GPU a day too late

umm they still had the same GPU an ASUS r9 270 X on sale bundled with a game ..weeks later (bought that GPU based on a [H] review

i'll never buy there again ..unless something is on a super good sale price ..but their recent e mails sales they keep sending me ..i can find the same hardware usually on AMAZON or other sites @ the same or a cheaper price
with cheaper \ faster shipping ..as i recall it took newegg a week to get my r 9 270x ..my Strix GTX 960 from amazon was here in 2 days / with a game and no hassle without PRIME membership

i also had to wait over a week for ram many times from newegg .. amazon or even other small online retailer sites like starmicro even got it here faster ..and were faster with RMA's
 
I pretty much exclusively buy on Newegg. Then again, I haven't had many issues with my purchases in the years i've been using them and when I do, they fix it quick and orderly.
 
Newegg has been going down the crapper for a while now. I use to use mwave.com a lot, but their site layout is stupid nowadays.
 
I haven't had any issues, but my last batch of computer parts I ordered off Amazon. Because I know if something is up, they pay to have it shipped back, they take it back, no restocking fee...etc...you know...the way Newegg used to be.

Customer Service (or the lack of it)...it's what destroyed newegg.
