I don't know what is funnier, Pornhub running on a refrigerator in Home Depot or the fact that John McAfee is the person that pointed this out to the world via Twitter. The added bonus, check out the guy in the reflection on the fridge just standing there all casual with a drink watching porn as his friend snaps the picture. :D

Theres a lot of good stuff on pornhub lately:

It's totally retarded to pay extra for a screen and connect your refrigerator to the internet in general.

I was fridge shopping recently and looked at this very model and asked the "why" question. Sales woman hit a couple of things and showed me that the screen could show you what was inside the fridge. I demonstrated the more traditional way - I opened the door. She mentioned recipes which I could see being possibly useful AND the ability to look inside your fridge from elsewhere to see if you had something which seems kinda useful. I still didn't buy one with a screen. Porn on the fridge wasn't a feature she mentioned.

I think to argue on that sales lady side "and trust me I am on your side here" is the mentality that by not opening the door you are saving energy by not letting the cold air out. My brother has a samsung that has like a mini door in the front so you dont have to fully open the fridge to get certain things.

Refrigerators use so little power compared to other things such as A/C, ovens, stovetops, microwaves, etc. that it is pretty pointless to make a super expensive refrigerator so somebody can save maybe $10-$20 a year vs a much less expensive refrigerator.

But people in general are stupid. Even when something is not really efficient they want to show the tag that says it is.

I saw one in Home Depot the other day, I don't see the point, my fridge is usually so stuffed that being able to look into it while I am at the grocery store would be of no help. What is more helpful is the Alexa shopping list so as I go through the fridge and notice I need something I just add it to the list. Then my wife brings up teh list while she is shopping and picks it up.

These things are over $4k too, I'll stick with an $1,800 fridge and some $50 Dots.

A dumb monitor on the front of the fridge that I can hook a PC into from behind and display whatever I want? Sure, Ok.

Built in Wifi and "smart" features that become outdated and never updated and therefore eventually useless? No thank you.

If I found out who did this, I would press charges against the ass for public indecency and child endangerment.

Every time I see "internet enabled" on a piece of consumer electronics, I see another node in a future botnet.

These companies CANNOT be trusted to write software which connects to the internet. They are abandoned even faster than smartphone updates, which is saying something.

Oh get real! You'd have as much luck suing Samsung for selling a porn fridge. Or Home Depot for failing to properly secure and filter their network. You live in the real world. And in the real world this shit happens. If you don't like it and want everything sanitized all the time you're better off staying at home, never venturing out and ordering everything from Amazon. But don't open that door too wide! The delivery driver may try something!

Trying to understand in what rational reality that images on a fridge screen constitute child endangerment. Maybe parental harassment for the parents having to deal with "Daddy, what are those people doing?" questions. Or worse depending on how loud the kid points out "Mommy, those people are doing what you and Daddy were doing on the table yesterday!"

You're the same kind of person that wants to talk to the manager and get that bitch fired that messed up your order at McDonalds, aren't you?

It's not appropriate, and I definitely agree with that. Pressing charges is a bit over the edge, though.

Charges have been successfully pressed for less. And yes you can get charged for showing pornography in a public place, or giving pornography to children.

Somebody who does something like this likely to commit other such acts. (Flashing, voyeurism, prostitution, rape) The sooner he gets identified, the sooner he can get help.

So basically you're saying that a woman that shows off a lot of skin is a prostitute. I can make stupid generalizations too. Here is an example: your comments show that you are a feminazi SJW, and that you need help growing some skin.

Careful with those stereotypes and generalizations. While they can be used to characterize groups of people, they can never be used to assume a person is a certain way because of what is essentially circumstantial evidence. They are called generalizations for a reason, to depict the average of the group, not the trait of the individual. Can you imagine how stupid it would sound? "Your honor, he is a potential rapist because he put pornography on a refrigerator in Home Depot, and needs to be registered as a sex offender and put on probation. Additionally, I suggest we start looking for victims, because he might have already raped someone."

Those Samsung refrigerators sell for ~$5K new. They sell a similar model, without the screen, for about $3000. The camera is an optional accessory and doesn't come standard. It also allows you to view the contents from your smartphone using a Family Hub application.

Honestly, unless I had way too much money and not enough sense, I would never buy this refrigerator. It's basically an over-sized, under spec'd Android tablet built into the refrigerator. The resolution is horrible and the display suffers from massive back light/wash out issues. Refrigerators are designed to last 15+ years in a home; this one is already obsolete before you roll it into the kitchen.

Honestly, if I were wealthy, I would rather have a commercial grade refrigerator that was built to match the cabinets. Refrigerators are ugly; I'm not sure why Samsung is trying to make them a centerpiece...

As adults we are probably normalized to the site of pornography. Problem is with kids they aren't. There are numerous studies that show early exposure to porn with children endangers them in multiple ways.

That said yes you can be arrested for watching or displayong porn in a public place. It comes under lewdness laws:

As to the correlation between the kinds of people who do these things and commuting other risky or illegal sexual acts is high.

What if the website displayed on the refrigerator was videos of movie scenes where people are killing other people (guns, knives, beatdowns, etc.). Ignoring the DCMA aspect of a public showing of copyrighted material (which also applies to porn videos, but usually people ignore that), should the perpetrator be arrested so they can get help?

Don't care for the screen, but I dig the concept where one can tap into a built-in webcam to check stock inside the fridge. IDK how many times I made impromptu grocery runs and I've forgotten whether I have enough milk/eggs/butter/etc.

What if the comments on this thread devolved to making lists in parenthesis (Azark, DigitalGriffin, etc.)? Would anyone point them to great examples (perhaps on wikipedia [maybe the Brackets entry {specifically, the 6th paragraph of the Parentheses section under types and uses, by chance}]) so they could get the help to be even more awesome?

Seriously though, universal affirmatives can only be partially converted; all of Elmer Cogan is dead, but only some of the class of dead people are Elmer Cogan (okay, not totally seriously, I guess). Arresting someone for this would be absurd without proof they exposed any children to it, or had some prior issue that correlated with a potential for worse.

Or just a childish prank. Many boys put a cucumber in between cucumbers or two melons as boobies.... Not rapists or flashers or anything other than being a bit immature.

For a fridge, put a cheap RPi device with small screen where you can take notes/make grocery list/etc.. Sync with OneNote (or other app of choice). Touch screen, script to text... Always have that grocery list. Notes are there for kids or adults to see when they get into the kitchen. Lots of possibilities. Cheap.

Hell, this fridge may do all that. Could be a very cheap device running a cheap touch screen. A browser is extremely easy to implement.

I guess I could use one of these things and it could be practical. Just not in the first way I was thinking of....

Isn't this what the screen was made for? Having a nice family dinner showing 2 Girls 1 Cup.

/S

I wish they did away with screens on fridges. It's absolutely unnecessary.

I've been testing the power usage of different appliances around the house, and my Fridge (17 years old) takes more electricity than any other appliance except for the Air Conditioning. It's drawing about 2x what it's supposed to, due to various age related parts wearing out like the seals. I've already ordered a replacement since it has a few problems not worth repairing.

Even if it was only drawing rated amount, it would still be one of the highest power consumers the house.

Other appliances may take more power while they are being used, but they only run a short time, while the Fridge runs 24x7.
Besides, I have a gas stove, dryer and water heater, so they don't count. :)

That's not how it works.
The camera takes a picture each time the door is open/closed and you access the stored picture.

Really???? Not sure if serious.. but I am guessing you are.

So say I put a video of me playing Warframe or some other FPS on there? Does that mean I am likely to go out and commit mass murder?

Common sense - seems like you need to get some.

It was most likely a prank/somebody just testing out what it could access. I know I would be curious to see what something like that had access to if I were to go into a store and look at it.

Hey! Look! It can bring up anything.. HEHEHEHEHE... runs off before anybody sees and watches as it becomes a huge overblown story on the web and laughs.

Putting up porn was of course not right, but the way most people are brought up nowadays to believe that morals are completely subjective and whatever you want to do, you can do unless you get caught, it doesn't surprise me one bit.

Ok, next time I will preface something like that with the qualifier - "properly working".

And the stuff I was comparing to was all electric powered, not gas powered.

A new fridge should reduce your power usage quite a bit. The newer ones should be a decent amount more efficient than your 17-year old one was when brand new.
