Wasteland 3 Officially Announced

Uhh .. am I the only one concerned about this "1.5" development cycle? They already have 2 games in development. One of them started 3.5 years ago, almost 2 years behind schedule, that still isn't close to release due in part to resources being spent on console version which wasn't even originally planned in the kickstarter, and now they want to start a 3rd game? People need to take extra time to consider whether or not they want to give them more money.

You can make the argument that "crowd funding" is worse than pre-ordering in situations like this.

I believe they're able to do more projects due to how they do development. As people finish working on one project they move to the next right away. So parts of Torment like the high-level design and concept stuff was being done while Wasteland 2 was in full development and so on. Not entirely sure if it's the best way to handle developing big projects, but I guess we'll see once Torment is out.

Yeah, it's the "1.5" cycle where part of the team that is done with a project moves onto the next one. But they have less than 50 people at the company according to their LinkedIn page. I don't know how thin you can spread 50 people and still get projects finished on time.

I don't want to sound negative because they make great stuff, I just think it's a legitimate thing to discuss before any more money is handed over.

They have delivered so far. I'll back them till they don't. I do wish they would produce faster but from my view they are not any slower than other companies. We just see the entire process this way. Other companies won't even disclose a project until it has been in development for years.

Wasteland 2 was alright.

I didn't finish it though.. *shrugs

Original Sins was SO much better.

I wouldn't be surprised if they also hired outside contractors to work on things as well. A lot of smaller studios do that to fill in gaps in areas that their employees don't specialize in.

Backed!

And they give a $5 discount if you backed a previous project.

It was insinuated during the campaign pitch that Torment is done with development.

One other thing; the expected release date of Q4 2019 is very conservative by them. I appreciate that because I think they mislead people with the release date of Wasteland 2 (year late) and Torment (2 years late).

So many games, so little time...

Wasteland 2 is still on my backlog, along with many MANY RPG's I am wanting to play through, like Skyrim, Oblivion, Torment (old and new), Pillars of Eternity, Fallout 4, New Vegas, Dragon Ages, etc etc...

Why did we not come with 2 lives?! T_T...

An ice setting is nice to see on a post-apocalyptic RPG though, none of the Fallouts (barring Operation Anchorage) was set in an icy setting.

I have the game but my save was corrupted looks good but not sure if I can get into it.
Is Torment early access the full game or just like a demo? From what I remember reading it was just a small slice of the game and probably isn't getting the most recent updates. I would imagine the release game is going to be very different.

Just as I did with 2, backed! Wasteland 2 was fabulous imo.

+1

Still need to get around to finishing my no-companions "Bad Ass Bitches" Supreme Jerk run one of these days.

If they promised to deliver on Steam and GOG I can't imagine they go back on that. Other dev's that signed exclusivity with EPIC deals still released on the pre-purchased platforms.

Nice to see none of the exclusivity garbage that's suddenly become a thing. I'm finding myself interested in this again. I need something I can put another 100+hrs in besides Grim Dawn. W2 was overall pretty enjoyable for me.

Looking pretty slick. The new interface UI looks tons improved.

Wasteland 2 story was pretty great (it had a lot of goofiness, but got really dark in places), but it was kinda ugly and glitchy.

I got stuck early on on Wasteland 2 not sure if this game warrants the full price again. I mean X-COM Chimeria was 9.99 and I refunded that game.

I give this one a big meh. Inexile has been crowdfunding new games to get enough money to finish previous games, and as the money has dried up after several low quality bombs they had to get bought out by MS to save themselves. It was very obvious the money they got for torment was not used for that, it helped get W2 out the door. when bards tale 4 barely got any money, thats why torment had to be made on a shoestring. Heck I never wanted to crowdfund again after what they did to torment, they promised the moon and crafted a turd.

I am glad I didnt when how badly bards tale 4 turned out. I guess they though they could keep the money rolling in forever no matter how bad the games they dumped out were. Plus all the massive delays they had releasing their games...its amazing they managed to keep the train rolling as long as they did. They did get lucky though and had MS save them, otherwise W3 would have disappeared with everyones money when the company went belly up.

Hopefully the extra time they took will make it significantly less of a bug-riddled train wreck than Wasteland 2 was at launch.

Ugh, that's a little rough. The choppiness and async of the voice and mouth movement is pretty disappointing.

Well, reviews are looking pretty good and not a ton of bugs mentioned.

Yeah I did regret crowdfunding Wasteland 2, it was a wreck for a long time until they had patched it a ton. Guess it is good they got bought by MS and didnt realese a mess like the previous time. I have no plans to rush out and buy it though, Ill see how it looks in a few months.

Alt OS versions not available at launch. This games is one of those games that is perfect for macOS (and/or Linux), and it's not available. From what I've ready, in theory it will come before the end of the year. Until then it's hard pass. It's not worth booting or VMing into Windows for. I'll admit I didn't fully finish Wasteland 2, but I did enjoy what I did play (and obviously that does mean I did get a copy).
I think the only game on the horizon that I'm willing to actually boot into windows for is CP2077. I don't think I'm the only one on that page though. If/when it comes out on macOS, I'll pick it up.

Been watching some Wasteland 3 on stream and am interested in buying it. I played Wasteland 2 but never finished it. If I was to go back and play Wasteland 2 should I do it on the first version or the DC? I see mixed opinions on the Directors Cut only played the early release version back when it launched.
