NVIDIA Announces The New Titan X

You are unlikely to gain much in the max clock department due to the limited voltage tweakability and 120% power limit.

You will however gain clock stability. In other words, your max clocks will not drop as you warm up (unless you do something wrong)

With my Titan (which admittedly is a pretty poor overclocker) I went from 65C with 100% fans on the stock cooler, running at a stable 1986Mhz to 32C stable at 2063Mhz.

The latter is also much much quieter :p
My Titan doesn't O/C much better... 2075 stable (+210) at 36C, and 500+ on the memory.
I don't have to touch the voltage setting though - power limit to max is all it seems to need.
If I go beyond that I hit power limit and it'll start to throttle.

I only look at my video card when I suspect one of the fans isn't spinning properly, granted windforce looks a little better than Accelero extreme but... Meh

I would go for Accelero 3 not 4 (check compatibility) because vrm cooling from the backside isn't very effective, to be clear I checked review and with extreme IV vrm temps are definitely safe (around 90c on the rx480) but I'd much rather lower temps than that

I have an Xtreme IV on my 980ti running 24x7 at max fan speed for about a year.
I can hardly hear it and in a case with filters, it hardly takes on any dust.
When it does need a clean, the fins are quite wide and easy to hoover / blow out.
The fan assembly unclips easily.

If you have the space, its a great cooler and is pretty cheap.
The Xtreme IV doesnt use any glue, the original heatsink can be refitted.
It looks quite good imo, a serious piece of kit!

I really wanna get one as well to replace my windforce cooler but I'm worried about the vrm temps, I need to figure out a way to monitor them

Its about 30 to 40C above that depending how good a card you have. (edit: when benching clocked to its max)
This puts it in throttling territory so you wont get quite as good clocks unless you mod the bios.
Even then it wont be quite as good as water.

I get mid 70s at 1470MHz, my card has 67.9% asic, not the best.

The cards with the best coolers are better than this but are louder.
You cannot make the ACX IV loud, the fans are silent on max.
I should really try strapping some big fans to it to see what the cooler can do!

Thats my next project then :)

How did you get an asic reading? I'm sure wizzard said no pascal support.

update:
With 2 "very old" and silent 120mm fans that leave both ends of the fins without cooling, its knocked 2C off load temps.

I havent fitted air guides where the fans overlap the fin edges so some airflow will be escaping unused.
I'll mod that in a mo.
I may get some better fans, seems I've run out of spares.
 
Did any of you guys use the EK thermal grease that comes with the block? Just wondering if it is any good. I used it instead of arctic silver.

Oh the ek stuff is gelid iirc, they used to be a seller of gelid. I would use it over arctic silver. AS is freaking old!

Yeah, from all I ahve read it's just the same stuff but rebranded as EK these days. I didn't use mine, but only because I didn't know it would be coming in the box, so I prepared and had already bought some Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut which seems to review better, but I'm pretty sure it's all academic when it comes to modern thermal pastes.

The quality of your mount is going to make a MUCH larger difference in temps than the brand of paste you use.

Heck, Kyle & Gang still use the old white goop.

It's really more like a pentuple slot cooler. It takes up at least three slots on the bottom of the card, plus a couple more above it. One one of my X99 boards, it actually interferes with a couple of the ram slots.

Actually for years now we have used Noctua NT-H1 for CPU cooler reviews as it has excellent performance with no curing time.

I personally still use the MG Chemicals Silicone and Non-Silicone Heat Transfer Compound "old white goop" for motherboard and CPU testing. 1. It gives very good performance. 2. It requires no curing. 3. It is easy to clean up. 4. It is inexpensive. 5. Comes in large containers.

It works very well however if you are going to leave it on for a year or more, I would not highly suggest it. That said, my usage is very short term. But I am lazy and use it on my own machines without issue.

I have the feeling the Titan X hybrid cooler is going to actually be the 1080 Ti hybrid cooler that just so happens to also work on the Titan. If true, it makes sense that the cooler is ready but they can't actually announce it until Nvidia officially releases the 1080 Ti.

Why couldn't they just announce it as a cooler for the Titan X, and then later also state that it works on the 1080Ti? Or maybe just say that it works with "all reference design Pascal boards?"

My understanding is that the board design of the Titan is almost identical to that of the 1080, or they're at least similar enough that the coolers are interchangeable.

The board design of the reference Ti will be the same as Titan X

My understanding is they are redesigning the cooler for the higher TDP over the 1080 and to take into account the extra power components. If the screenshot is anything to go by then it could be running cooler than the 1080 hybrid depending on how soon it was taken after full load abated. Meaning that it has to be different than the 1080 consider the 70W higher TDP.
 
Fullcover is the way to go especially considering the price, ppl in this segment should probably already have full loops. And ya can't beat 33c load@2101mhz ish with a hybrid.

I ordered one too. Luckily I am in California and picked ground shipping will be here tomorrow. Ordered it yesterday, I was going to cancel my order but I am gonna keep it and it should help with noise and keeping the card from dumping too much heat in room. Looks like these things cool the cars down damn well. Mine is for my Ti that I just got off this forum for 590. Can't wait to slam this on and have it run nice and cool during summer.
 
I was finally able to install the Hybrid on my Titan X (extenuating circumstances...). Topped out at 53C (26C delta) while playing Prey, and the clock speed was a steady 2050 MHz the entire time. Seems my card is limited to +200 on the core in Afterburner. A single MHz more causes it to crash, but it was perfectly stable for the hour I played Prey.

Here is my Firestrike Ultra run I did on this stable overclock. I did one run where I got nearly 7900 graphics score, but it couldn't handle the memory overclock at 11 GT/s, so I backed it down and ended up at 10.6 GT/s. That loss in bandwidth equated to nearly 150 in graphics score lost :(.

AB settings:

Voltage offset = +0%
Power limit = 120%
Temp limit = 90C
Core offset = +200
Memory offset = +300

Fan curve is custom, topping out at 50% at 50C. Can't hear a thing anymore. It's so nice to be rid of that blower!

Tools needed:
#0 Philips, 4mm socket driver (for mid plate screws), 5mm socket driver (for DVI screws), needle nose pliers (for power plugs and applying tape)

The instructions for the most part are adequate. It just doesn't tell you that the I/O plate needs to be removed, as it's attached to the cooling assembly. The cooling assembly needs to be wiggled gently a bit to lift, best to work from the I/O side back. Be careful when doing it, as you could accidently rip the fan and LED cables out. On the note of being careful, that extends to all the 4mm screws, as they are all surrounded by tiny sensitive component. And you want to avoid scratching the PCB, of course.

One more note: I had to replace the one thermal pad on the back of the card since I was reinstalling the backplate and the kit only comes with thermal pads for the mid plate.

I hit one snag in that the 4mm bolt in one corner didn't line up perfectly with the EVGA mid plate, so it was a little difficult to turn down. The backplate still sits flush, though.
 
Summertime and the warmer temps has made me order the Arctic Accelero Xtreme III. I was seeing my temps spike up to 87c which has me concerned, and obviously I am getting some throttling at those temps.

The EVGA hybrid cooler is out of stock and $100 more, so aesthetics aside I think the Xtreme III will serve my needs just fine. I can't seem to find any of my old thermal goop and I don't like the look of the pre-installed junk on the Arctic, so looks like I'll be installing this Friday when the new tube I ordered arrives. After watching a few install videos it looks like the biggest concerns are getting the heatsink on nice and level, and making sure the bracket is on really tight so this thing doesn't sag. I'd hate to have to resort to something silly like a piece of wood propping the card up to prevent sag.

Titan/ti cards use the same pcb unless they are customs. Use the configurator to compare pcbs. They should be identical.

The 1070 / 1080 kit AIO works, but you'll have to dremel the shroud, if you want to replace the Nvidia one.

I think you're right.

I stopped reading at "EVGA reference".

Must be a new SKU, thats compatible with their stuff, and "Nvidia reference"

The compatibility list shows the 1080 Ti Founders Edition, so it should work fine on the Titan X or Titan Xp.
 
I have an option of getting a 2016 Titan X for $700. Do you think guys it's worth it? Not sure I want it for personal usage though.

If you can't find a 1080 Ti for the same price or better, then yes. The Titan X is only 2-3% slower than the 1080 Ti in games.

Don't know what you mean by your last statement, though.
