I've had a few nights where after 2 or three rounds of worthless (I dont mean skill I mean not bothering to try playing) players (pub) I'll just play something else.

I played one round tonight, where the battle for the first point we had good comps and pushed in really fast taking the first point. Once we got on the cart it was a good even match up to the second point.
The third however it was like the entire team checked out as nothing was working and they did not want to change classes. 3 of us did okay but with the others not helping much or changing hero's to suit that portion of the map 7 minutes of time was a slaughter for us :(

I still dont like how crazy Genji is and hope they give his shuriken some fall off, shorten his dash jump and think about some cool downs but at least I dont have as many network gripes with the latest update and the new map is just as fun as it was in PTR.

It is better to play with friends though. Typically the only time most of my friends are on to have a full team some are not coherent enough to play lol. I think I play Overwatch maybe 1 to 4 rounds a week at the moment. Suffers from the MOBA / L4D / Evolve issues of any really poor player or someone not trying and the whole team can fall apart. At least a newbie who tries can keep it fun.

The rank tier is only for end of season rewards (competitive points) and visual. Functionally it does nothing for match making.

So a rank 1 gold (hypothetical) won't be actually matched with real rank 2000-2499 golds. Well kind of, supposedly the actual hidden MMR is not fully in line with the displayed rank either even though it is typically close.

I understand the reasoning behind not de-tierring, that being said in my opinion they should have a some sort of buffer system to prevent someone simply being there with a "lucky" streak. A minimum amount of games played total and that you need to stay in the tier for a set amount of games.

Played my first game of comp this season yesterday. Had someone pick Widowmaker on offense Route 66. Got destroyed both rounds. Said fuck this game. Its not fun anymore, people are dumb / trolly as shit. I will only play from now on if I have enough "friends" on to make a 4+ stack.

I agree with this. Players should be required to play X amount of games so they don't "derank" from a tier if they drop too far below.

It's literally free cp handouts for people who are shiet tier. And that completely undermines what competitive is.. imo

I got a crap rating of 2488 during the placement, won 6 lost 4.

This was one of the good placement matches with decent players on my team,

I dont mind if people pick weird stuff at the start or in a pinch but if it fails to work and they refuse to change it up that is where I get annoyed :( I've done well as Widow on offence / defense on several maps. Seen some oddly great Tracer defenses and Torb offenses. But mostly I agree, people just dont want to change it up and help the team typically in pub rounds lol.

People not changing is a pain in the ass. I'll give your dumb pick a chance because I've seen some dumb shit work... but if you're spending 80% of the game doing absolutely nothing other than watching the respawn timer, it's time to pack it in.

People get super butthurt about it. I switch all the time when I think something's not working as well as it could be and I've seen huge swings in the impact I'm having on the game from changing it up. It doesn't even necessarily mean you're doing bad. You can be playing good and just not doing as much as you could be against their lineup.

Yes, when the other team changes their make-up to counter, not changing usually just means a loss. I can't stand competitive games where people just keep ramming their heads into a wall of death with no attempted change of character or assault strategy. Or even worse, when some jackhole is shouting at everyone to change while they just keep sucking ass with the same character. My favorite is the guy telling everyone how he has 4 gold medals, yet he's never once actually helped push the payload forward or actually defended anything by doing something useful, so we end up losing and he goes into a rage typing to the other team how much we suck... You know the guy... Or the Junkrat standing outside the defensive point lobbing bombs in... or the Blackwidow sniping at them while their team caps it? That's one of my favorites.

I'm in that 2300-2400 gold ranking area where I get just enough idiots like that on my team to keep me from ever moving up to platinum.

Went like 2 Wins and 20 losses yesterday...all the way from 2374 to 1900ish. FUCK THIS GAME AND FUCK BLIZZARD. I've been playing mostly tank or healer just to try and get wins but nothing but brain dead useless teammates yesterday who refuse to switch classes to counter. I've had numerous matches where people continue to shoot Zarya's bubble charging her up to full damage WTF. I'm convinced Blizzard fucking sets people up in solo queues with impossible odds after a certain point. Like Oh you just won 3 in a row?!?! Well now we're gonna fuck you over and set you up with the most worthless people and see how you do! I'm just gonna troll teams now until BF1 comes out. This game is fucking infuriating.

Been trying to get better with Widow. Any tips on getting better at snap shots or just general gameplay would be much appreciated.

Played four of my placement matches yesterday. The teams were kinda meh, but at least not as terrible as the ones in quick play. I at least didn't find myself screaming internally about why my teammates would play Torbjorn on offense.

I'm around 3300~ right now and the majority of people are still awful to play with. Absolute dead weight who would rather be mad as fuck and bitch about the team while providing minimal contribution themselves or get hard countered by something and proceed to spend more time at the respawn screen than switch to something more useful.

Or they'll just pick Lucio / Roadhog and run directly into 97 enemies and die in 2 seconds because apparently they think it's on the rest of the team to protect their retarded decision making no matter what.

What do I need to do to be useful in this game? Last online FPS I played was Team Fortress 2, and I could decently play a majority of the classes, now days I try to play the single player games I have stacked up, but I really want to play Overwatch.

I've mostly played D.Va (I can't even remember if that's the correct spelling) because I do alright with the Heavy-style control, but is there another class that I should learn to play that would be useful?

I think the concept of "useful" in this game is constantly shifting based on what your teammates are, what your opponents are, and what map you're all on.

Personally, I suggest getting familiar with at least one character of each type and be comfortable switching with the flow of the game.

And don't worry about getting a Play of the Game or anything.

Ghostwich hit the nail on the head - what you need to do will depend heavily on what your teammates and the other team are doing.

General FPS prowess is useful, but more importantly, knowing which character to play at a given time, and being willing to switch characters when the situation calls for it will make you a valuable player to the team. With the exception of Mercy, pretty much every character is a hard counter for at least one other, so if you're getting stomped by the same opponent over and over, it behooves you to consider switching to a character that is strong against whatever he or she keeps doing.

Had a Symmetra today setting up her teleporter over the cliff..... Yes, the amount of trolls are beginning to pass the amount of decent players. Ive dropped 300 points in the last 4 days. No one wants to work together, everyone wants to play reaper or mccree with no understand of how to play them, and then they rage about everyones character pick.

Been bad the last week for some reason ;/

You are useful by knowing how to play all classes, and changing to them on the fly when you recognize the team needs a change.

my goal in the game is to get PotG as many times as possible, lol.

Some random groups are just bad, some are ok. I just wish there was an easier way then to get your shit pushed in when you get in a group with three mercies or two bastions on defense. I'm all for weird combos, but it seems lately the casual experience is getting worse. I can only play so much competitive anymore, probably due to my age...

I don't like the way competitive games work, with the sudden death multiple "games" per match.

I really wish I had a team of friends to play with. We should consider getting an [H] group together, if we're all having this problem.

Yes [H] Group needed. I'd be down.

The biggest issue I see in the game is when your team is winning and then they start getting steamrolled. why? because the enemy team changed comp. Your team doesn't react to that and keeps getting stomped.

This is also a flaw in the game because I have seen in competitive when both teams active make note of each other team makeup and this weird and sometimes boring switch up happens where people are changing characters and trying to out counter each other at each death. Not easily fixable either.

Sounds like we have enough to start an group. Lets get a [H] overwatch group thread going in the subforum.

I play maybe once a week now due to all the issues. Fun game and I really dont mind loosing if people are at least TRYING to play instead of looking at shiny things in a corner.

For the last few days every first game I play I go against triple or quad stacked heroes. They need a quick play without hero stacking which I believe they mentioned something about in an article I read. Seems every team MUST have a Mei as well (triggerable). I only play competitive with my cousin and his friends but to go in it in a 4+ group we usually get wiped since we don't play together that often. For me the game is in dire need of a new game mode.

Just played a round against five d.va and a lucio, they slaughtered us. Also most every match now has a Mei in it, at least one if not more. I'm loving the disconnected mercy play after finally seeing info about how to turn it off and toggle the beam. I'm such a noob.

I think I'm going to take a break from Overwatch. Might give the Halloween update a try, but solo competitive queue is just awful.

Had a few nice days with what seemed like mostly balanced matchups...I was even gifted a sextuple kill. Managed to get my rank back up to the 1900's, which feels about right to me. And then...the last 2 days, my goodness. Game after game after game with horrible teammates. I think there were 4 or 5 matches in a row where I was the only one willing to play healer or tank, so we'd end up with one healer and no tanks or one tank and no healers. Got a couple of normal matches after that (still lost almost all of them) and then bam, a string of 3 or 4 matches where someone on my team leaves the game. Wonderful way to drop 500 points in rank.

The game can be fun, and that's what's kept be playing for so long...but the matchmaking is just too frustrating. On top of all the issues "outside" of Blizzard's control, their matchmaking algorithm is crap. At my level, why am I constantly being put on teams where everyone, or almost everyone is silver and we're matched up against a team of 5 or 6 golds with 3 of them grouped? It's so bad that this has to be low hanging fruit for them. Perhaps it's more of a problem for me since I'm close to the bottom in terms of rank, but that just means they need to refine the matchmaking and take less of a one size fits all approach.

this is as high as I can get solo, keep getting grouped up with players that don't work together that good, so I don't play competitive often.

Playing in Quickplay, this was the fastest that I've won a match,

Too early to give up IMO. It can take well over 100+ games to reach your true level due to volatility due to the solo queue. 20 is a pretty low sample size.

Might consider other hero choices.

The current event brawl is actually a good way to practice for the 4 available heroes and a change of pace, worth giving it a try.

Are they actually current golds though or just "peak" golds?

The main problem with solo queue is always going to be volatility.

Oh I've played much more than just that. This is just the last few days. Was floating between 1800-2000 since competitive play started, then just started getting horrible matchups and groups. I did try the Halloween update yesterday, but skins and such are pretty meaningless to me. Didn't try the game mode, but lost another 4 or 5 in a row in competitive. I don't think there's any way to get out of this low rank trap other than grinding and hoping that variance goes your way. The game is tons of fun when you have two well matched teams....but lately that's only been about 10% of my matches.

The brawl is a bit disappointing, too much like MvM in TF2 which I never was a fan of.

Finally got out of the "gold" area. Still gets frustrating with retards (even diamond players who only play DPS no matter what the game calls for or how they are playing) but definitely better @ 2700+ than 2300.

If anyone cares it looks like the Sombra thing is about to hit 100%. Looks to end right at 1pm EST.
