Galaxy Note 7 Sets Jeep On Fire

Oh I am sure there was $30k in upgrades under the hood too that you can't see anymore because it is ashes.

Hell I never leave my phone to charge in an enclosed heated space like my vehicles.

A buddy of mine has a note7 and hasn't gotten around to returning it yet. Probably should take recalls seriously.
 
Well that's going to be a ton of fun, insurance and Samsung fighting over who has to pay for it.

yeah I'm very careful not to let my phone get hot. even if the battery doesn't explode it's really bad for your battery.
 
This gives everyone who wants to get rid of their car an easy way to do it. Just claim you left your Note 7 charging on the dashboard and, gosh darn it all, the thing burned up my car.
 
Hot day, hot jeep interior, Note 7 charging....perfect combination for disaster.
 
I drove Jeeps for years in the Army, loved them. An experienced driver could go almost anywhere in them and if you lost your battery or starter you could just pop start them and there were a dozen or more other little tricks that would keep an old soldier going when any other vehicle was dead and useless.

And then came the Hummers and I resisted. Don't take my Jeep away and give me that big turd.

And then I started driving the Hummers, the ones before they started up-armoring them. Just the light cargo hummers, 4 door soft top was the best. Frankly, I drove in ways a Jeep just couldn't and climbed things easily that I would have been finessing my ass off to climb in a Jeep. I became a convert I did. The Hummer's capabilities almost made up for that uncomfortable fucking driver's seat, almost :ROFLMAO:
 
Samsung needs to just eat the cost and make the guy happy, the backlash would costs them a lot more than the jeep.

Cause they were reliable and smooth. I've also know the newer V8's they put in those Jeeps would crack the heads randomly.

The old ones sure. But anything newer than say 96ish cracks heads and throws rods with the best of them.

Why, doesn't he have vehicle insurance?

He wasn't doing anything that was unreasonable, (with the small exception that the phone had a known problem with exploding). His insurance should pick up the tab, not Samsung. Let the Insurance company go haggle with Samsung over it if they want.

It's not a minor hassle. Getting a new phone is always a struggle, not at first, not at the store, but latter for days after, trying to get everything set back up, all your data in place. For every new thing your new phone can do that's so cool, there always seems to be something you loose that you really miss.

they were told they could swap out the phone in 2 weeks. This is why IMHO discounts for turning in your older phone should not be taken advantage of and everyone should keep a spare for when the new model gets broke or recalled for me if i had picked up a note 7 i could have gone back to my note 3 or moto x pure till this shit got sorted.

And for 880 samsung can ship you a new phone asap not in 2 weeks i realize that i am talking about millions of phone but i am also taking about millions of dollars in lawsuits they could be avoiding...
 
Really happy I didnt get a Note 7 now. The Note 4 has the IR Blaster which is too useful to ditch.

It's his fault for using a known fire hazard though? That's definitely one way that the insurer may look at it. I dunno, what to think personally. It's been all over the news. It's not like he couldn't have gotten a burner for the few weeks wait to get a non-fire hazard replacement.

The straight 6 is garbage compared to the 3.6l v6. I had a 2006 wrangler with the inline 6 and I now have a 2013 with the 3.6l and there is no comparison. Anyone who prefers the i6 has never driven a jeep with the 3.6l v6.

I have my Note 7 in front of me, as much as I like it I'm probably going to return it and continue to use my Note 4. The Note 7 is definitely nicer overall but I used the IR blaster all the time and I don't really want to be spending the extra money on my phone bill every month because I didn't pay for it all at once. That and I can root the Note 4 now to make it faster with a custom ROM whereas my brand new Note 7 lags already even though it's brand new.

Comparing apples to oranges.. The straight 6 that everyone was referring to in this thread ceased production I think around 2007/2009. You are referring to the 3.6L Pentastar engine. (wrangler, cherokee, grand cherokee) Yes, more power... A lot harder to work on. I have had the 4.7L in my 2004 vs the I6. Consensus is the I6 is way less maintenance needy.

The 4.7L WARPED heads when overheating due to the mating surfaces (iron/aluminum). Rod throwing was not a common problem.

The I6 apparently was amazing because it could take a beating, except for cracking heads around 1999-2001. Chrysler fixed this issue with an updated/upgraded head casting.
IIRC the bad head moulds had a stamping of '0336' between cylinder 1 and 2 for the I6.

If you owned one, you will know most of the reports are from users that charged their phones either with third party cables or left them on the charger for many hours.
So long as we use the included charger and take them off when fully charged, there's no issue until our replacements arrive.

The Jeep owner knew there was a recall and decide to leave it in a hot car or with the car running to overcharge it. I hope the car payments keep coming.
