Introducing Clone States and the Future of Access to EVE Online - EVE Community

When we launch later this year there will be two clone states available:

  • The Alpha Clone State is the new base state for all clones and it will be available to any character in New Eden at any time. Clones in the Alpha state will be able to train and use a specific set of skills including tech one Frigates, Destroyers and Cruisers for your faction along with essential weapons and modules. Alphas will also train skills at a reduced rate compared to Omegas.
  • The Omega Clone State is obtained by augmenting basic clones using neural expanders and cerebral acceleration technology, granting unlimited skill access. Omega clone state will behave exactly as your subscribed characters do now.
Alpha Clone status will offer free to play status but with restrictions on what you can do/pilot.

Omega Clone is what you are when you subscribe like you have been doing for the last few years.

So Alpha state for Jita marketeers and people that have never played before and everybody that has an existing clone becomes Omega?

It is unknown right now if you will need to buy a copy of Eve Online to be able to play for free after your first 30 days.

What kind of restrictions though?

Are we talking like World Of Warcraft free to play till level 20 type of free(aka trial!) ?
I don't think you could communicate or join a guild in WoWs trial. This is just for example. As I've never played Eve, so I don't know wtf I'm talking about here. Lol

Still going to pass. The resource management is still WAY too much like work...

That would make it not free to play I assume if you have to purchase something up front. But I've been wrong before so who knows!

Personally, I've been waiting for something like this for awhile.

I was always tempted to try their 14 day free trials, but figured 14 days wasn't nearly enough time to spend doing anything meaningful.

They don't have levels in the same way. They have many skills to choose from and that seems restricted in the Alpha state. Joining a 'Corporation' (ie guild) is a huge part of the game. I suppose the free Alpha state will be too gimped for most people after a small amount of time.

It could always still be a free to play model, the same way GTA V online is free to play but you still had to buy the game up front.

If the game does require purchase of the base game, I do hope this doent change the way Steam puts Eve Online on sale every now and then for $5 as Id want to get friends into it.
