Part of me wants to laugh at this laptop (if you can call it that), but the other part of me totally digs the specs on this thing. Yeah, it is pretty ridiculous but in a kinda cool, so-over-the-top-it-isn't-even-funny sorta way. :D

It's the world's first laptop with a curved screen...not to mention two (2) GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs and a built-in mechanical keyboard. It requires two (2) power supplies to run, and needs five (5) system fans and eight (8) heatpipes to stay cool. It holds up to 64GB of memory and five (5) storage drives at a time.

My Skylake based MSI i7 laptop this week added a popup to promote a similar dual 1080 laptop costing about $5099 US.

Why would you need space for 5 drives when you can buy a 4TB SSD? Do you really need 20TB for your game collection?

Two power supplies??? and 17lbs? Are we sure this counts as a "laptop"

I remember my 9lbs Dell XPS Gen2 from way back and that thing was too heavy

I actually like the idea of bigger screen gaming laptops, but I'd rather have it a smaller than that. Maybe if they'd just put 1 gpu and enough space for 1 SSD and a storage drive.

Yeah, NO.

Gaming sucks on laptops because of the ergonomics. The 1080's they speak of are mobile 1080's, right? Which means we are talking - what- 1060 performance? And then having to deal with the shitfest that is SLI?

I'll pass. Actually, I don't even think I'd use this monstrosity if it were free.

8KG? That is a desktop replacement. Do they include a forklift for $6,000USD?

Actually they're slightly down-clocked and maybe down-volted desktop 1080's. There's not going to be a "mobile" 1080 this time around IIRC. So this thing really would be a beast, even with only ONE GPU. I think Nvidia said the 1080 mobile version would be within 10% of the performance of a desktop 1080 FE.

Can't argue on the ergonomics though, it doesn't look super comfortable, even with the full-sized keyboard.

First, ergonomics are not that bad, I game on a G751JT Gsync and it's just fine. Plus, you can plug it into a TV and use wireless or bluetooth gear if you want. Second, Nvidia has created parity between the desktop and M Gpu's now, so 1080 is 1080. Third, Ok, SLI, yeah.

You would totally use that Sh$T if it was free, ain't kidding anybody.

I don't know man. I have a laptop, and the pure thought of sitting on a couch and even browsing the web on that thing gives me back aches. I try to use laptops a s little as possible for any tasks. I have a laptop at work, but it spends 99% of its time in a docking station at my desk. I only take it with me places when I absolutely need to. It's much better to just have it docked and work at my desk, or to work on a proper desktop.

Nah. I've never understood the concept of living room gaming. I like games, but games in the living room have no appeal to me what so ever.

I did not realize about the mobile GPU parity of modern GPU's. That's good news I guess. So they are just very highly binned versions that can reach the same clocks at super low voltages now?

No, I don't think I would. I don't game on the go, and if I were in my house, if I were to play a game, I'd much rather just go use my desktop, which is properly set up at a desk, the way gaming is supposed to be. I don't even have any desire to have games in my living room on my TV. To me gaming belongs in one place and one place only, at a Desk, on my Desktop. Not on a phone, not on a tablet not in my livingroom, either on an HTCP or a console. At my desk and at my desk only.

If I were given one of these, it would probably spend most of its time sitting unused collecting dust. The only time I could see it getting any use at all is if I had visiting friends and we wanted to play a networked game of some sort, but I'm an adult now. I haven't had friends over to my house to play a game since before high school, 20 years ago.

It's called a ps4. You keep using finagled laptops on a couch with stupid mouse trays, see where that gets you. If you work in IT, RSI makes you disabled.

I imagine this being useful for somebody who is on the road for long stretches of time, but doesn't need portability... i.e. someone who is in the same hotel for a week or more at a time. Probably a pretty small niche.

I know a lot of people who are like this, 90% of their job is travel, they don't care to go to a coffee shop and game, what they want is something that is not desktop in size, but with the same power, this would fit the bill. Back when I did pipeline work, this would have really caught my eye really, I know lots of guys who still do that would not blink at dropping 5-6k for one of these.

Well, for most gaming, i prefer to play on my 40" desktop, but to spend time with others, i do most of my gaming on a laptop so we can do other stuff at the same time so the desktop gets very little action. But theres one type of gaming perfectly suited for the living room and thats driving games. Wheelstand, big screen, full size surround sound and a heavy chair that wont move around when you use the pedals. Im sure flightsims would benefit. A big luggable like this probably spends most of its time plugged into a displayport monitor and gaming keyboard/mouse, then you can drag it to the living room for a good drive or to play with VR.

Yep, As the poster above me said too. I know many people who travel 5-6 days a week for works staying at hotels. This is a great gaming setup for them. Hotels can get really boring in the evenings. I know a few people who will probably get this.

I'd build a M-ITX and put it, monitor and associated accessories in a 22" wheeled hardcase all for less than half.

With dual GPUs?

And of course you could, it was also weigh double, and when packing/flying weight is a consideration. The laptop here you can carry on. Enjoy a bag fee every time you travel with the setup you mention.

It's aimed at a specific crowd and for that crowd is fantastic.

You don't want to carry this on the plane though.

This is for that traveling gamer to pack in his checked bag, with plenty of dunnage, and setup in his hotel room for his one to three week trips around the country.

Yeah, if I had to be on the road that much, I'd probably either shoot myself or get another job.

No amount of money in the world is worth that much disruptions to ones life.

If I had to do that though, I might be tempted to get a mobile gaming solution. I actually did once, a few years back by making a DIY ViDock adapter, and custom enclosure attaching a desktop Radeon HD 6850 to my laptop using the Expresscard slot. It was only 1x PCIe but it actually worked surprisingly well. It wasn't much fun to game on though, not because the performance was lacking, it was OK for low resolution gaming like the built in screen or the 720p TV's in hotel rooms, but because I just couldnt get comfortable enough in either laptop mode or on the TV to make it worth playing. The TV was inevitabley too far away or at an angle, and the laptop screen and keyboard were just weird to game on.

Total cost was about $200 though, so it was worth the experiment. Pretty sure I wouldn't be willing to spend $6k though.

Exactly. Military employees getting sent to bases for training or being posted somewhere with limited space, oil patch staff at camps, etc. etc.

As long as they aren't deployed to the desert. Sand and heat is hell on laptops.

And it would promptly "go missing" the first time you checked it in your luggage.

Either that or you would find it busted into a million pieces when you open up your suite case.

I NEVER check electronics when I fly. They come with me in the cabin.

I have flown all over this country and never lost my laptop when it was checked in my bags.

I did loose a knife once, but that was in an airport in the south and I had almost forgot to put it in the bag, remembered at the last moment, and handed it to the TSA agent to put in the bag cause he was right there. So I know where that knife went.
