No Man's Sky - a procedurally generated sand box space exploration game

This planet is my current base of operations. Pretty cool things to look at, lots of Korvax to talk to, animals are bigger than other planets I've seen, sentinels are tame, etc. There's a regular base and an anomaly base in orbit around it too. Sorry about the resizing, had to upload them to the forum. Between file hosting right now.

Nice! Is an anomaly station like an abandoned station? I haven't seen one of those yet... But with all this overtime I probably am only 20 hours in and spent the first (to many) working around breaking the story.

So, is every planet either 100% tropical savanna or rocky barren wasteland?

The game is very pretty, but every screenshot looks more or less the same, except for wacky color palettes.

I've increased the size of the trees, some rocks and plants to make the landscapes feel a little more lively. It does create some great woodland to explore and other plantlife as I find it makes you want to get lost on the planet as some undiscovered locations are within dense trees or large plant life. There are some LOD issues with some of the larger plants, but as I'm not a coder, I don't know how to fix this.

I thought I'd share with everyone who might be interested as it was mostly for myself. I haven't seen every variation of plants or trees so if you see a major issue or problems, please get in touch and I'll try and fix it.

Please note that there is some major clipping issues/some floating trees with some objects and WILL take a little hit on FPS, so anyone with a beast machine will have no trouble running this but I don't unfortunately.

There is another issue I forgot to mention, is that some small plant seem to float, I'm not sure on how to fix this yet but I'll try.

Sadly I don't no how to post my gallery from imgur.

I'm about to post the mod onto nomansskymods if anyone wants to take a look.

No, there are icy places, rocky, highly aquatic. For me though, the lush ones have been more interesting to stick around on. More life, more resources, etc. (at least in the systems I've been in) I was on a toxic planet that was fairly green, had some very odd creatures, and lots of storms. I couldn't stay on it very long though due to the conditions. I found a couple of run-down installations on it, some resources, but had to take off. I'll probably grab a pic or two the next time I'm on something different. I wanted to thoroughly explore this planet though since I made it my current base of operations.

It comes about from choosing the Atlas path. You don't have to stay on that path either, you just have to take the first few steps, and you can start that at any time, though the chances show up pseudo-randomly after the initial start. I don't want to say too much more than that though.

I remember a few posts when the game first came out that the game only supported save files <4mb (or some odd number in size), and people were getting crashes/corrupted saves when it hit this limit. The fix was that you had to die, which for some reason dropped the save file size back down to reasonable levels. It was fixed in one of the minor patches, but I wonder if it was related to this.
This is some Busch league shit, imo.

That sucks! I haven't gone anywhere near the center yet, but I'm several systems away from where I started, and I was able to go back and see everything. This was a few days back though, so hopefully something didn't change that did this globally.

Ah- I talked to the Atlas marker at the starting crash, but lost the path soon after. I'm sure I'll bump into it again sometime.

what more is there to say about this game!...Sean Murray, at least save a little face and come clean now...his silence and evasiveness pre-release is one thing but you're just making yourself look silly now and it will effect any future games you and Hello Games develop...word of mouth is sinking this game and they need to start thinking long term

Yeah, there will be a few ways it will make itself clear again. Usually after jumping systems a couple of times.

What they need to do is commit to fixing their shit and putting in the features that were shown initially FOR FREE. Don't even mention or bother with paid DLC at this point.

So basically, the entire concept of renaming stuff to have other players find them is pointless?

I will fly back to my starting system tonight. My new ship and gear will make it quick and easy. Actually, I'll be out tonight, but will try it by tomorrow. It was all still there last time I went back. If it's still there now, I think it's safe to say that it's been fixed. Or is only happening in some cases... (which it better not be, as I've spent quite a lot of time naming things.)

That's what they're doing. They've already release a few patches in rapid succession. They also didn't say that all DLC would be paid. Just to be clear, I'm not happy that people are having issues with the game either. Just mentioning what I've personally seen and the response I've seen from the devs as counterpoint.

Ha! Thanks for posting that. I really wanted an LOD tweak, but have been too lazy (or too busy playing) to go look for one.

Sort of at the point in this game where I'm not entirely sure if it's worth proceeding. Maxed out my suit inventory, my ship is fine and multitool is pretty tough. I don't feel like grinding for $75 Million to upgrade to a larger ship. Don't know what else to do except put it down and hope the Devs give me some incentive to get to the center of the universe.

You don't need to grind money for a larger ship. Just find the buildings with a large antenna on top and search for crashed ships. They will be from -1 to +1 your ships slots. Then you can break down your mods in your ship for lots of resources and transfer them to the new ship if it's larger. Otherwise, you can swap to the new ship, break down its resources and go back to your current ship and look for another crashed ship.
I did that to get from a ~25 slot all the way up to a 48 slot ship. Now when I look at the prices to buy a ship, they're something like 400 Million.

Also, this game got me motivated to play Elite : Dangerous -- which I bought on sale nearly a year ago and never played. Elite makes an excellent companion to No Man's Sky as their strengths and weaknesses are nearly opposite of each other.

Hmm.
I don't know about this.
I went back and checked my discoveries and sure enough, they're all there.

Dude was probably an idiot and forget to upload.

It could have been a server issue or a bug. Benefit of a doubt and all that.

As much as I think Sean Murray and Hello Games have bungled the release and mislead consumers, I'd wager this is just a bug or server issue like you suggest. The Reddit thread where this was brought up has folks talking about server downtime, people maybe not uploading, etc. and all of that actually sounds reasonable. If that is the case though it's pretty shitty that the game/servers are in a state where this is happening to multiple people.

The way the naming/not saving issue has blown up is also a testament to the shitty PR Hello Games has. People are so damn ready to jump down their throats about everything, I think in large part due to the complete and utter lack of communication from Sean Murray about major community questions. Oh well.

What was the point of the discoveries being uploaded to some server anyway? Not like it matters much since you can't interact with anyone else anyway - you just miss out on the currency when you upload discoveries.

I actually found it weird that my starter planet was discovered by someone else. I chalked it up to server weirdness.

Heh, I'd probably be more pissed about their lack of uptime except I'm used to Steam going offline line damn near every freaking day and they've got to have some major funds and you'd think they could come up with some redundancy.

That's weird. I've only had one or two instances of issues with Steam. During an unlock for a big game the time(s) it happened. I think BioShock was the first one I had a problem with, and I'm sure it's happened since then. Otherwise I've never had any issues at all with Steam connectivity.

I play a fair amount of Dota 2 and it's very obvious when the servers are down or updating. It's probably way less noticeable otherwise. It also could be a more weekly thing that always seems to occur during my free time. I probably overplayed the situation.

Oh, I don't doubt it occurs. I'm just wondering if it's geographical, network, server, etc. etc. Just curious. I'm in Seattle, so close to Valve. However, I don't know where their actual infrastructure for Steam is, so that might not even be it. My connection is pretty reliable though, and my transfers from Steam are usually pegged at my max bandwidth. I'm just wondering if it's not so great in other places, other ISPs, etc.

Probably what it was. That reddit user updated his post and now sees his old discoveries. :)

Took me 3 hours to go back and find my first system just to double check.

I think the dude just trolled us all real fucking hard. Lol

This article says 2 weeks:

No Man’s Sky wipes your discoveries after two weeks | Games | Geek.com

Although they just used the original poster's play time.
Still, I think spotty connectivity (from their end, not your ISP) is what caused it.

Anyhow the problem does exist but premature to say it's intentional.
Yeah like I said, I went back and checked myself after hearing this and everything was fine. A few of my buddies are on their way as well to see if anything is missing. They didn't way point their starting systems though, lol. May take them a while to back track

Started moving to some new systems today. Oh, and I did verify everything is still named in my home system.

There's a new mod called "interesting planets" which apparently changes the seeding of the game with more variation. I'm gonna test it out and see what I find. Also running "big things" "inventory stack size" "deep space" "level of detail" and all the remove filters mods.
