Deus Ex : Mankind Divided

Look at those SLI/CF results. Interesting.

780Ti SLI seems to give more or less expected results, but 1080 SLI seems to be poorly optimized at best and completely broken at worst. Same for R9 Fury X CF.

And how were they testing DX12 if it's not ready yet?

DX12 is in the game already and wasn't locked off to reviewers. I'm guessing the delay was decided fairly last minute and the day one patch will probably disable DX12 but it will still be in the game.

I thought early performance numbers had even the GTX 770 getting close to 60fps...Nixxes is usually good with PC ports...TotalBiscuit might lose it if another game is released in a broken state...I'm going to play the game regardless but I might just wait for the DX12 patch to hit first...

I usually take like double the advertised length to beat games. So waht is the game advertised at? If it hits even close to 20, that's good enough for me. If it's shorter, I'm going to be annoyed unless the game play is amazing or really fun... which it might be.

the reviews I've read all pretty much are in agreement that the game is good but not amazing...more of the same from Human Revolution...the setting is the real star...I hear the game is also fairly short...

"Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, five years later, is not a sequel that moves the series forward in a meaningful way. It makes small improvements, no doubt based on feedback from the original, but it’s shorter, smaller and has a more convoluted plot. This is not a case of a great original that got far better with a sequel, the way we see quality leaps from Uncharted 1 to 2, or Assassin’s Creed 1 to 2. Human Revolution to Mankind Divided is at best a lateral move, meaning it doesn’t feel terribly fresh the second time around, but you could even argue that it takes a few steps back as well."
I'm just glad it's not a disaster. Keeping the gameplay similar to HR was a safe bet. I'll take more of the same and then some.

from my earlier post..."So, imagine my surprise when I did manage to finish the entire game, playing at a leisurely pace, in less than a day and a half. Maybe about 10-12 hours total, even with all the exploring and sidequests"

I read that, but his playing at a leisurely pace might not be the same as another's. I'm referring to dev's claims.

Actually to add to that... a lot of people play Ninja Gaiden Black leisurely and beat it in 4 to 5 hours, where as I would normally take 12.

So am I bad person because I want to play this legitimately purchased single player game that's sitting on my hard drive right now? ;)

Nope. Thankfully I'm going to be gone most of the weekend so I'm not even going to pick it up until late Sunday or Monday.

It sounds from the previews they improved the "exploratory" factor over HR. That was really my only complaint with HR, most the levels felt a little claustrophobic. As usual with Deus Ex, the graphics are good, but not spectacular.
Hopefully hacking is a little more rewarding and challenging than in last game (once maxed out anything was a breeze).

Not a whole lot said about the PC version, which is always a shame. Fingers crossed that no news = no bad news.
There are benchmarks where 1080 SLI performs exactly the same as 980 SLI. That kind of scares me.

Also the GTX 1080 managed an average FPS of 66 @ 1080P on ultra settings. That game doesn't even look that good. Luckily turning down to high you see almost no difference and you get a 40% increase in FPS.

I read that the PC version comes with a nice set of graphics options including MSAA, , sharpening, chromatic aberration, FOV slider etc

Early performance numbers have me worried...looks like there are some severe issues on higher details, even at 1080p.

Game-Ready drivers for Mankind Divided (and No Man's Sky) were already released this past week...there will not be another one next week

And those drivers are f--king broken on my rig so...kinda sucks.

works fine for me...better then the last few drivers from the 368 branch...it usually takes a few weeks after release for drivers to truly become optimized anyway...all these 'game-ready' drivers are mostly marketing fluff

How does that work? They don't release any hotfixes unless some serious issue slips through Q&A, so how exactly would they optimize then?

I'm having this issue, which is apparently being fixed and there is a workaround (potentially):

I meant it takes a few weeks minimum for Nvidia/AMD to optimize drivers for specific games...Nvidia releases drivers pretty frequently...sometimes once every 2 weeks...sometimes even back-to-back weeks (when there are multiple 'big' games set for release)...more often it takes a month or 2 to release really good drivers for specific games

So it seems like the reviews are pretty much along the lines that the main story is the weakest link but it's gameplay and design is better then HR.

Jeff Gerstmann was streaming and talking about the sidequests being great (and some even lasting up til near the end of the game).

So would it be safe to assume that there isn't many technical issues around?

The Metacritic score is a tad lower than I expected, but still quite high, so I assume it can't be that bad

Nixxes usually does great by the PC so I would be surprised to see anything egregious.

I would say yes. Many reviewed PC versions. I'm still wondering about performance on high @ 1440P with just a 980 Ti. I do have a G-Sync monitor so that will definitely help out some.

Just ordered this. I almost never preorder except in rare circumstances like Civilization, Final Fantasy, and now Deus Ex. If I stick with highly reputable games/names I'm not concerned with preordering- it's the EA/UBI games and publishers/developers with no record I never preorder from.

anyone have the patience to wait for the DX12 patch to hit before playing?...I think I'm actually going to do that...and before anyone says "you can play the DX11 version and then replay it later in DX12"

there's nothing like playing and experiencing a game for the first time and I want the first time to be the best version it can be

I will probably buy this game early, but I will not play until I replace my GPU, which I will play the best running DX at the time.

Well, with that though, how long can you wait? The Directors cut of HR took a few years. Are you willing to wait for patches, DLC and all of it to come out? Might be a few years. Everyone has their tipping point. Few wait until games are 100% complete.

since they already announced that the DX12 patch would be delayed 2 weeks that's what I was referring to...not for all the patches etc...some major feature or setting which was originally set for release on Day 1 getting pushed back slightly

Busy playing DOOM and Witcher 3 atm, don't think I will get around to DE:MD for at least another 8 months.

I've been more patient with my game purchases recently as well...only Dark Souls (and a few others) do I buy without question on Day 1...am interested in playing Doom but am waiting for a nice Steam sale...with DX:MD it's DX12 but even without that patch almost every game gets improved after a few patches...I bought Fallout 4 on Day 1 but haven't touched it yet...with all the patches and new features they keep introducing the game almost felt incomplete at launch

I bought the Collector's Edition for PC, and Squenix' Website was the only place I could find offering it. Since I haven't gotten an email confirming shipping yet, I'm guessing I'll be playing 3-5 days later than the rest of you (if I'm lucky). Hopefully it is here before the weekend.

In any respect, I'll be playing at 4k 60htz with 980ti SLI, so I'll report back with my performance. Anyone else going to be playing at 4k?

Based on Nixxes past work, I'm confident the optimization issues will be addressed quickly (possibly with the reported Day 1 patch). But I think I'm gonna wait to buy until some H|F users post their results.
