NVIDIA Announces The New Titan X

I went casual. I only bought 1 Titan X.

Cheapskate.

I cant let myself get more than a ti.
If they dont release one this year I'm gonna be a real skinflint.
I might even spend the money starting a new hobby which would affect future purchases (hint NVidia, hint!)

I have been doing the dual cards.. like the 690 GTX and others before it but this time I decided the 1080 just wasnt enough of a boost from the 690 so I bought a Titan and I must say Im NOT disappointed!

For single 1440p I'd do the same. At least you can play DOOM.
I am able to max out GTA V with all effects to the max, including all of the Advanced Options (sans the downsampling/resolution scaling), and get 80fps+. I am able to max out Witcher 3 with HairWorks and get 80fps+. Overwatch stays at 144fps fully maxed out no matter what's going on in-game. It's perfect for 1440p.

Off subject real quick, IF you HAD to pick a game between Witcher 3 or Overwatch what would it be? I wanna play a new game but one at a time

Paragon for MP, Witcher for SP. Paragon is demanding as fuck, and beautiful.

Happy sli loves fps gaming! If it wasn't for that I'd save tons with consoles and casual gaming.

Saying "if I can't have SLI I'm just going to console game" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

It's like saying "If I can't have my ultra fragile Alfa Romeo, I'm just going to buy a Yugo", when there are perfectly reliable high performance vehicles out there.

I want to add something to this SLI discussion.

Yes, SLI sucks when it doesn't work (which is too often), but IF you're going for mGPU then dual Titan X is the way to go. mGPU works best when you buy two of the best, primarily because you have no other options for that performance class.

An overclocked Pitan will match SLI 1070s and trail SLI 1080s, and that's when scaling works well. It's a no contest. SLI 1070/1080 has been obsoleted.

Installing the Arctic Accelero III and did the Coolabratory Liquid Ultra resistor shunt mod, which netted me about 10-15% on the power limit:

Looking good so far. Time to do another Titan!

That's like asking me to choose between cake and pizza. Totally different. The Witcher 3 is probably my favorite game of all time though.

So you'll go from 4k 60 fps Ultra (single Titan XP) to 900p 30 fps Low (consoles) if they take away the ability to SLI? That don't make much sense to me but different strokes for different fokes lol.

Absolutely I would go to consoles. Playing games and having fun is the main goal, the tech info behind it (frames, settings etc.) doesn't matter.
We make the tech info matter because we are enthusiasts. Removing SLI will lock users into price/performance tiers. SLI allowed users to reach higher levels at a lower costs of entry. Those doors will be shut.

$1K cards with 50% value losses within a year aren't for me.
Having the option to add or remove a card depending on where I am with my build is a huge plus.
That means I will need to have a back up card laying around unused when a upgrade cycle hits because I only game on a single card.

Now for the higher user, there a people in this thread with Titan X SLI. They feel that one isn't enough. At some point you will want more power, and then you will have to wait until Nvidia decides to release the next big thing, and we will pay anyhting for it because there's no other option to get more performance. Eliminating SLI would be right up there with Windows 10 shenanigans.

Nice man :) Question though, what did you put heatsinks on on the right ? You slapped heatsinks on the inductors and capacitors of the VRM stage :p they probably didn't need it, but what's that on the right ? Post temperatures :D

Obsolete is a bit harsh.

I'd say the usefulness of 1080 SLI has been surpassed by a Titan X in most applications, but it would still be useful, albeit frustrating.

Obsolete means that it is no longer of any practical use.

The option of buying two 1080s right now is of no practical use, you're much better of buying a Titan and an Accelero IV. I guess if you already have a 1080 you might want to get a second one down the line

I guess we are very very different.

I wouldn't got to consoles for any reason what so ever. If gaming on the PC disappeared, I would stop gaming all together before I ever touched a console.

I also disagree with SLI as a cheap way to get more performance.

Sure, you get a higher average framerate, but your framerate when it matters the most will be way worse. Minimum framerates on SLI are bad, and that's before you even take stutter, and compatibility problems into account. Having to manually edit SLI profiles for some 90% of titles to run properly, and even then having to settle for a poor experience, and having your custom profiles disappear each time there is a driver update.

No... There isn't a single usage scenario when comparing two weaker GPU's in SLI to a stronger GPU producing similar average framerates I can think of where any person isn't better off just getting the faster GPU. Even if you already have one of the slower GPU's, it is better to sell it and use the money towards the faster GPU than it is to get a second slower GPU and go SLI.

The only time SLI makes any sense what so ever is when one of the fastest GPU's on the market just isn't fast enough, and even then it stinks, because now you have to make tradeoffs between all the shortcomings of SLI, and lower framerates.

The same goes for crossfire, but multiply the problems by 10.

Wait, did I miss something.

You didn't wind up liking the hybrid solution?

Alright, I understand how you are using the term. That's not how I would use it, but I get it now :p

Also, please do tell about this shunt mod?

Actually, I just found some reading. It is a little unclear how this actually works. Does it increase the voltage at the same settings, or does it allow you to drag the power limit further up?

Looks a little risky though. The conductive material looks like it could run off and short things you don't want it shorting...

Probably safer to just wait for bios mods.

I put heat-sinks on all power phase FET's, power chokes and output capacitors. The only thing I couldn't get heat sink's on are the Phase driver IC's, they are too small. Basically, everything that was touch the stock thermal pads are cooled with these heat-sinks. On the far right are more output capacitors.

I prefer the simple air cooling of the Artic over the Hybrid. This system is going in my Airstream so it will see some vibration. Not overly confident in those inexpensive AIO coolers. When you have a $1900 CPU and two $1200 GPU's, $600 MB and $700 SSD, cheap water cooling is not a good mix.

As for the shunt mod, you paint all three R50 resistors with a thin layer of CoolLabritory Liquid Ultra. This lowers the resistance and lowers power target reading giving you more amperage headroom.

You guys are all [H] as fuck.

Nice!! :D

I'm not so sure. It can't have half vram this time, and the Titan X already uses a cut GPU.

Will they cut it down to 24 SMs and keep the 12GB or will they replace the Titan X with a full GP102 config and the current Titan X becomes the Ti, who knows?

Could be slightly cut down with 12 GB most likely. I doubt they will release a full GP102 that soon but you never know. Regardless, I think people are in major denial thinking it won't come soon because going by recent NVIDIA trends, it's all but inevitable. Just look at this Titan X, people said, "oh no way, not until next year" and here it is.

meh not impressive won't buy a 1080ti for 1200 dollars, I will wait for the titan xp super duper platinum edition

I don't know why people think Titan X (Pascal) buyers care about a Ti card. Even if it releases next week it will be what? $900? $1000? So you guys save $200-$300 to have a slower card? Good on you. I sold my 1080s to have the fastest cards. I'll sell my Titan X (Pascal) to have the fastest cards. A Ti release has zero affect on that scenario.

My card arrived yesterday, and I just got an email from EK stating my block has been shipped. It's all coming together! ahaha

Yeah,

I got my shipping email this morning at 7am as well.

They originally stated it would be shipped on the 16th, so I guess they are ahead of schedule! I like that!

Personally I have plenty of confidence in AIO solutions. I've never used the EVGA branded ones, but everyone in the industry uses the same two suppliers so they should be of equal quality to the Corsair ones I've been using for 6 or 7 years thus far without an issue.

That cooler looks awfully large. Does it allow you to install the two cards in SLI properly?

Ahh, so all it does is make the card think that it is using less power than it actually is, so the 120% power limit doesn't kick in?

The Arctic Accelero III is a 3-slot cooler. You can still SLI cards using them if you have an E-ATX motherboard like Vega does and still have enough room for adequate airflow.

Side note.

I've recently been playing Fallout New Vegas for the first time.

I haven't gotten around to modding it yet, and I just keep it synced at 60fps at 4k.

This card just throttles down to 1200mhz because for an older title like this it has nothing to do :p I was curious about the fan, so I looked at the output, the fan - at the stock profile was actually sitting at 0%, 0 rpm in a 74F ambient room :p

Looks like this GPU has some pretty damned decent thermal management when not being pushed.

Ahh.

A few years ago I used to have dual 3-Slot Asus Radeon 6970 DirectCU II cards. They were beasts, but it did complicate fitting everything I wanted to fit :p

If anyone is interested, a user on Overclock.net installed the Kraken G10 with a Corsair H90 on his Pitan without issues. The OEM backplate just doesn't work with it. I haven't seen any official response, yet.

Cool! That's probably the minimum radiator size (140x140) you want to go with a Titan X P too if you are power limit unlocking and OCing. A 1080 gets up to about 55-60C with a 120x120 OC'd and power limit unlocked.

just placed ordered on mine plus waterblock from EK
i guess i get to play around with it next weekend

Later in the thread he says he maxes out at 46C with his H90 in push-pull configuration. I think I'm going to go with a G10 and X41 based on this information, and upgrade my case to either a be quiet! Silent Base 800 or NZXT Phantom 530. My original Phantom doesn't have any good radiator mounting options.

A 360mm rad can dissipate 250w at a 10c delta with Typhoons at 1300rpm. A 250w TDP card at 46c on a single 140mm rad? Yea, that could possibly be the best I've ever seen in my life.
