For all of you that have ever been matched up against some cheating bastard online, this story is for you. It's pretty damn bad that you can be so blatant about cheating (streaming as you cheat) but at least this guy was caught and banned mid-match. :D

Probably felt cocky because of the one Diablo III player who blatantly cheats on stream and has been for years without ever being banned.

Just another confirmation of why I avoid online MP anything these days...oh and the ridiculous timesink required to attain any kind of proficiency. Seems like this is the mentality of most people though, rules only apply if you get caught breaking them. Until then, cheat/lie/steal your way to success, everyone else is doing it anyway, right?

Who? Gabynator? He got banned multiple times and is gone for good I think.

Overwatch looks like an incredibly bad game designed for adhd teens.

I'm 31 and I play about 3 hours a night with some friends. The competitive mode has helped keep me engaged and entertained. Once BF1 comes out though I don't think I will be playing much Overwatch.

This type of thing is why a lot of us complain when new FPS games are released without dedicated servers (particularly when previous iterations of the game had dedicated servers): there's no admin control. People can complain about "badmins" and shitty experiences they've had in the past all they want, but a properly admin'd server community will have active and fair admins who will keep the server clean, and that experience for the players is significantly more positive than any unmonitored "official" server.

I think the Overwatch hate stems from people who just were never any good at twitch based FPS games like Quake or UT.

No, I just didn't care for TF2 when it came out and I don't care for Overwatch for the same reasons. It's basically a MOBA FPS, which I have zero interest in. I'm fine if people enjoy it though, no need to belittle others.

I like people like you. You have an opinion and yet don't think everyone else that has a different one is stupid. If only more people could think this way. Not sure when the shift started to just hate on people that like something else. Is this the kids nowadays trying to fight like michican and osu fans but over a video game that one group doesn't even play?

Did you just call TF2 a MOBA FPS?

Quake was fun. Overwatch is too fussy and cartoonish. It looks like a bad acid trip.

I agree with you there, back in my CS Source days I would only play on servers where I knew the Admins personally, and they did a good job for the most part dealing with obvious cheaters. However, on multiple occasions, just suspicion of cheating was enough to get someone banned which really translated was "anyone better than the admins".

You have to wonder just how dumb they are -- the hack was obvious, and he chose to live stream anyway?

That's like lance armstrong giving a backstage pass for cameras to come watch him dope up right before a race (I don't follow sports so I don't know of any recent sports/drug scandals to reference)

I disagree, I think the opposite. people that are good with FPS games find it to be a really poor version that adds pointless complexity. I picked it up the same time as DooM and after 20 hours of playing each I realized Overwatch is just not a good game. DooM is way better twitch FPS and it's much faster pace.

so what cheat was he using
Did you not see the blatant instant aim? I can't say I'd be one to see a cheater, but this guy is extremely blatant, he literally looks into the sky for a while and then instantly looks at an enemy head.

Russia got caught in a state-sponsored doping scandal for the Olympics. Could have gone with that one. Luckily, their hot female gymnasts were not involved and not banned.

Nice to see cheaters banned mid match/stream. But the sad fact is that they will be back and if his hack was not automatically detected and more of because he was reported due to his stream, it means he will be more careful next time. So anytime he isn't streaming he will be running the cheat.

Patrolled servers like someone mentioned with CS were nice, however if you had really skilled people playing, it didn't take much for them to get kicked/banned from the server. Which can happen a lot when really good players find a server that they just completely out class in skill/play style.

Exactly, it used to be a badge of honor to be kick/banned for hacking (when you weren't). Then it gets annoying, and you realize the majority of people with any sort of power, even if it's simply being an admin on a server, are in general going to abuse it.

I was originally put off by the look as well. I assumed it was designed for someone else. Teens, but I'd skip the adhd snark.

I'm 45, have played competitive FPS games longer than many have been alive. A friend urged me to check it out over my objections, and I'll be damned if it isn't a really solidly designed team shooter. Sure, I'd like more modes and maps, but the core is very well done. I've gotten over the cartoony look.

Yeah, I think what they meant is you shouldn't compare Overwatch to a MOBA, the genres are far too different.

It was more that he said he doesn't like Overwatch for the same reasons he didn't like TF2 when it came out, then said it's basically a MOBA FPS.

I'd actually agree that OW is something of a MOBA FPS hybrid, but TF2 was nothing of the sort when it was released and, even with all the weapons added to the game since, plays nothing like OW now either.

I'm pretty sure most of the hate comes from those of us who "Were" good at twitch based FPS games like UT and Quake and have a general disdain for modern FPS and all the hand holding in them.

Back on topic, Good. Fuck cheating shitbags like this.

Now that is one serious facepalm. They should expose who that cheater is so his peers can humiliate him further.

You're clearly not playing competitive mode then. Overwatch's multiplayer beats DOOM's horrendous offering by a landslide, and this is coming from someone who lives for Quake Live and Unreal Tournament duels. I know where you're coming from, but it's not true.

Play Tracer or Pharah to get your fix of "old school" FPS action. Tracer is especially great as she's hyper-focused on movement skills instead of general aiming, which goes the same for Quake/Doom. If you don't know how to control your strafing while aiming with Tracer, you're going to have a bad time, and that's what makes her great. Getting air rockets with Pharah is one of the most rewarding elements in the game, just like it was with Quake/Doom (at least before they fucked up multiplayer gameplay with the ridiculous choice to allow detonation of rockets mid-flight.)

Seriously, Doom's multiplayer is sooooo bad in comparison. The movement might be "fast", but the gameplay is so stiff and boring. Super shotgun blast, quickswitch to shotgun and shoot again, repeat. That isn't fun at all, and isn't what Doom/Quake was brought up to be... the new Doom is not an arena shooter I can legitimately enjoy, especially now that they've abolished dueling and deathmatch altogether in favor of team-heavy game modes.

It helps to find a good/reputable community and play there if it suits your needs/preferences. I see a lot of generic comments whenever community/dedicated servers are discussed, as if someone's experience on "Timmy's $10 slot server" is somehow representative of all community servers. Even so, I'd rather take a few "pros" occasionally getting the boot over the entire server clearing out because they have no recourse when a hacker joins the game.

Interesting that the guy in the video climbed into the top-200: I'm sure he did it all legit and only started cheating for that stream, right?!

What hand holding? Overwatch is pretty brutal, a great player can utterly decimate a team. There's a rather large skill ceiling in Overwatch and it requires more than just point and shoot to get to the top.

Sorry, isn't Overwatch exactly for that crowd?

So you haven't played? Maybe give it a shot, it's a much more difficult game than people think. It's rock, paper, scissors, dynamite. Everything has a counter but a skilled player can adapt to overcome their counter. I have competitive CS players who say that Overwatch is just too much and too fast paced for them to keep up. It's just a very hectic fast paced game and takes some getting used to. Once you play for a few hours and you've learned how every class plays then it just becomes about adapting to every scenario and team comp.

Still get wrecked by a good premade though.

For me the anime/cartoon visuals are enough to put me off. I'm into realism.

I can sympathize, that would be my preference as well. Well, I'd not say "realism" exactly since it involves sci-fi, but maybe... "gritty"?

If you can get over it, there is a very solid game here. But I understand if you just can't swallow the Toy Story 4: The Vengeance look.

Yeah, IMHO anything "death match" is pretty dumb and should go back to the 90's where it belongs.

Don't get me wrong, I played them and enjoyed them back then, but that's only because there wasn't anything else, and I did t know better.

Once games like Half Life, and Deus Ex with good story lines came out, and mods with good team play experience like Counter-Strike became available, death match type games became completely uninteresting over night.

Now that I have experienced such excellent titles as Red Orchestra, Red Orchestra 2, and the STALKER series I can't even go back to the likes of Counter-Strike anymore. It feels too twitchy, over-simplified and boring by comparison.

An FPS has to have either great battle-sim styled team play or a very compelling story, and maybe even a slight RPG element to keep my interest these days.

I can't do the brainless twitch run and gun games anymore.
