Remember that crazy elevated bus concept we showed you a few months ago? Well, after a recent public demonstration the Chinese media is calling the whole thing a "scam."

Several state media outlets have published articles alleging that the company in charge of developing the TEB crowdfunded their project illegally and misled investors. Despite the hype surrounding the trial run, both domestic and abroad, it seems that the company may have blown the occassion out of proportion. Not only was the test run just 300 meters long and completely failed to mimic real-life traffic conditions, but authorities in Qinhuangdao city also were not aware of it even happening, People's Daily reports. The firm later verified that it wasn't a "road test," but simply part of "internal testing."

Had a gut feeling something didn't seem right about the elevated bus project. There is no way delivery trucks are going to clear the bottom of that thing.

Based on what I've seen I think it's viable but for what they have now I don't see how it's going to work with things like SUV's, trucks, and other larger type vehicles.

This thing is a joke that can't possible happen just from a cursory observation of their model.

SUVs and pickups are short enough that they go under it. They'd have to put a maximum height limit on the road (like you see on roads with a lot of bridges). Remember than in China, the people come first, before individual rights. The majority is not going to complain that they can't drive on X street because of a massive train. People will instead complain that jerks are trying to cut off the massive train. I'm not sure they'll ever get to worked out, but if it can work anywhere China is it. It does beg the question, how much more expensive would it be to put in supports for an elevated subway instead? An elevated subway would be faster and have none of the downsides.

Well I thought personally it was just a concept anyway, and not something that actually existed... as a concept it was a damn cool one...

Can we stop calling it a bus already. Last time I checked buses are not on rails. This is either a trolley or a train, not a bus.

People always get bent out of shape about what someone calls something...

From Merriam
"a large motor vehicle carrying passengers by road, especially one serving the public on a fixed route and for a fare."

I've seen the drivers in china firsthand. I guarantee one person per block riding a bike or scooter will be run over by this thing. And every 3rd block there will be a car under the wheels of the bus.

In the public demonstration video the thing could barely clear the roof of an SUV travelling under it. The design is idiotic and incredibly dangerous.

2.2 meters of clearance. It would mow down Yao Ming if he was walking under it.....
