WoW; 6h expansion Legion

Don't forget about all of the merchandise for sale just Warcraft, and even the stuff from the in-game shop. WoW makes a ton of money and will for years

What bad things are you reading? Guys/gals in my guild have been enjoying figuring out the new class changes (keeping in mind classes are balanced around artifact weapons, so things will change even more in a month or so). The new xmog system is long overdue, and it works as advertised. That's really all that has changed so far. The Legion invasions and demon hunters will be coming in a few weeks.

I haven't played in about a year, so I'm not sure how anything is now.

I've been reading the class changes screwed everything up. But maybe since I haven't played in over a year, I'll like it. I was planning on starting a new character anyways.

Do I need to have pre purchased the Xpac to get the demon hunter?

I don't think classes are screwed up at all. They are a lot different, sure, but definitely not messed up. Like I said before, you have to also keep in mind that the specs are all being balanced around having an artifact weapon, so gameplay now isn't a complete picture of what it's going to be like once the expansion launches. In most cases, peoples' damage/healing has actually gone down a bit with the patch (again no artifacts), so I suppose some people might be frustrated by that since they're probably used to being super OP during a pre-patch.

To answer your question about Demon Hunters, yes, you need to have Legion to play them. They're also letting people play them a few weeks prior to the launch if they've preordered. If you do preorder to try one, keep in mind that they get talents while leveling to 110 while everything else has their full talent comp at 100. A level 100 DH is fairly gimped, and it's not even close to what the spec actually is like at 110. It'd be like trying to play another class with only your 1st talent point.

Nice, thanks for the feedback. Think I might resub soon and pre order.

are you still gimped in wow if you don't install 30 add ons? i quit back in wotlk because of this. i was always a "play the game as it is" kinda guy, never big on mods. getting kicked from raids for not having DEADLY BOSS MODS OMGZ, the game fell flat for a lot of reasons but this was one of them for me.

Yes and no. The game is perfectly playable without mods. The base UI is actually fairly customizable now, and the built in raid frames aren't terrible. Mods are definitely superior though. For things like DBM, you're definitely hurting yourself by not using it, but you could definitely do bosses without it if you listen for audio queues, watch telegraphs, etc. I kind of liken DBM to being able to use a calculator on a math test. Sure, you can do it all by hand, but it takes a whole lot more effort.

Edit:
Thought I'd add that I raid with a guy that only uses DBM, a damage meter, and a mod for his bags (let's be honest, the default bag system is still awful). We have cleared every raid on the highest difficulty, so that kinda shows just how playable it is with minimal mods. That said, I have no idea how he does it because I'm an information junkie, and I love having mods track all sorts of info.

I do want to come back and try Legion, if it were possible to do so with minimal modding that would definitely increase the possibility of me trying. I just hated when it got to a point that I needed 30 mods that had to be updated regularly to continue working and my screen ended up being less of a game and more of a mess of numbers spamming all over the place at all times. Raiding is my favorite part of MMOs, too, so the idea of being 'gimped' not running the mods discouraged me and was ultimately part of the reason I quit. I have had much better time playing other MMO's that allow for zero modding. I find it refreshing when a developer says NO mods are allowed as it comes down to skill and that's it. If you suck, you suck. In WoW, you could be pretty good, but not perfect, because of lack of add on usage that is 3rd party software not intended to be used in the game by the developers, but allowed anyway.

I like using mods, but it's always frustrating when the expansion pre-patch comes out. Right now most of my mods are broken and it's a pain having to go through each one of them and decide if I want to try to wait for the mod dev to come out with an updated legion version or if I want to try and find a different mod with equivalent functionality. It's even more frustrating when you are looking forward to having a fun gaming session with a friend, exploring the new changes, but you end up spending hours trying to fix your UI instead :(

My experience this time was really smooth. Granted, I don't use a ton of mods outside of ElvUI, boss mods, TSM, WeakAuras, Details!, and a few raiding QoL mods like Angry Assignments. All of those had updates ready the day of the patch. My UI had a few issues (mostly stuff that was supposed to be hidden still showing), but it was completely playable. ElvUI got a 2nd update yesterday that fixed the minor stuff, and everything is back to normal. Curse client makes keeping things up to date a non-issue.

Been playing again after a year or two hiatus (forgot how long exactly). I was instantly reminded last night why I multibox and avoid the community - it's horrid.

I was questing in Westfall and had to do a quest where a scripted sequence happens and you wait for 4 thugs to attack you. I get to the area and there are about 5 people there. I thought they were in a group so I waited for them to finish the sequence. One person walks away and hands in the quest. The sequence eventually resets and once again it is every man for themselves to get the aggro and get the question completion. I watched as each and every person did the same thing over and over until one guy was left. No one grouped with each other, no one even asked to group. The last person didn't even acknowledge that I was waiting for him to finish and didn't even attempt to steal the mobs.

Took like 10 minutes for everyone to finish, I had Beverly Hill Cop 2 going in the background so that helped. Aside from that, it's still annoying having to quest when other people around - it's the same mob-stealing bullshit I remember from back in the day. Someone sees you then frantically starts running around and grabbing all the mobs in an area for themselves.

I'm not playing currently but I thought they had changed this in the pre expansion patch.
"All creatures and NPCs can now be tapped by up to 5 other characters."

I had the same exact experience recently at that same spot. It's just a horribly designed quest.

I just installed WoW again and sub'd. First time playing since Spring of 2015.

Gotta say the class changes are really good. I play Tanks, a Paladin tank and Death Knight tank, and they have made them much more enjoyable to play, fun again.

My Paladin is Level 98 and DK level 96, and i just went up one level each just questing around for a very short time. Was surprised how much damage the Tank class does now, very fast killers. I recall beforehand that Tanks were slow questers and took a long time to take down quest monsters, well it seems that was changed now in a good way.

MANY of the old UI issues are gone. The only mods I use (for convenience) are things like Bagnon, Postal and DBM. I don't bother with DPS meters anymore. As long as the mob is dead, and I'm alive, that's all that matters to me.

That stands if you're a casual, but if you want to improve your character as much as possible, then "as long as the mob is dead and I'm alive" attitude doesn't work.

Same here. I quit about the same time. But when I came back I noticed they ruined discipline priest :/
I liked holy before anyway, but they took so much healing away from discipline.

I've been there, done that with fighting on the meters. It's all swinging epeen at this point. If you know your class, and know how to gear it, the meters shouldn't matter.

Ugh. I haven't played for at least a year. Having tanked Rag in Vanilla, Illidan, LK, and partook in the AQ gates, all the new stuff doesn't seem as...thrilling. Just regurgitated material. Just getting 39 other people on the same schedule to get to Major Domo in one night was a challenge in itself. The game will never be like it was. I may resub this winter for the hell of it, but I will no longer get myself in a scheduled guild.

Well then I guess we don't need statistics in life?
You need that damage meter to understand how you compare to other specs, or people of your own spec. To have something to go from, understand if you're doing things right. You can't just assume that you're doing enough damage and be fine with it.

Unless you're casual.

Not sure how the game has been lately, but back when I was tanking I'd take a lower DPS player that knew mechanics over someone mashing buttons not knowing when to move.

Of course, I would do the same.
But I'm talking about players who want to max out their character and who know their thing.

Anyone would, but when you get to the point where you're choosing between players that all are able to stay alive, you're going to want the ones that stay alive and do the most damage/healing. When you're talking about decent raiding guilds, the staying alive part is taken for granted. If you can't do mechanics or whatever, you're not getting a raid spot anyway. That's where maximizing your damage/healing comes into play.

That's the thing. I don't feel the need to compare myself to others. It's all just situational awareness, knowing how to play your spec, and mashing the right button at the right time. If you're doing all of that, you're doing your job.

I've been raiding since raids were available in the game, so don't toss the "filthy casual" references my way.

I think you're missing the whole point of the end-game. Get gear and get the highest numbers, get into the best raid groups. WoW is all a stats and numbers game - which is why I don't play it.

If you're not paying attention to it then you're a casual player living in blissful ignorance, and that's OK!

Well I would install DBM and recount they are not 100% needed

Thats all I run with the exception of move anything so I cna re-organize the UI to my liking and find it works great. I think to many mods become distracting and hinder performance (atleast for me lol)

Serious question: is there interest in creating an [H] competitive raiding guild?
I haven't played since WotLK, and one of the major reasons I quit was that it wasn't possible to get into a decent guild on my server. Wasting time on rando's just didn't do it for me.
I'd be cool with a ten man. As long as its consistent, organized, and has players that give a crap.

If I didn't just have a boy, I'd totally be in.

Well today is the big day (Legion Invasion Day!). Servers are down in 6 minutes and then we wait.

Yeah, I'm a little confused on this as well. The Xpac comes out August 30th but they're releasing a bunch of it today? Hopefully by the time I get home from work it'll be ready.

No, this is the pre-cursor invasion. Even if you don't have Legion, you can join the fights. You just don't have access to the Demon Hunter class.

I thought about making a DH today but the people in my guild are saying it's unbearably crowded in the starting area...sounds like fun lol. Honestly, I just don't want to level another character...but they start at 98 so that's not too bad I guess.

Do they go to 100 or 110 now? Or 110 once xpac drops?

All classes (DH included) cap at 100 until the expansion drops. I didn't do the pre-order so I can't run a DH but I have been doing the invasion quests.
