It began with a bet. Brian Kelleher, our top hardware engineer, bet our CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang, we could get more than 10 teraflops of computing performance from a single chip. Jen-Hsun thought that was crazy. Well, we did it. The result is crazy. And, as of today, Jen-Hsun now owes Brian a dollar. The new NVIDIA TITAN X, introduced today, based on our new Pascal GPU architecture, is the biggest GPU ever built. It has a record-breaking 3,584 CUDA cores. We said our GTX 1080 delivers an “irresponsible amount of performance.” It was a bit reckless. But this is even more reckless. So forget words. Here are its numbers:

11 TFLOPS FP32
44 TOPS INT8 (new deep learning inferencing instruction)
12B transistors
3,584 CUDA cores at 1.53GHz (versus 3,072 cores at 1.08GHz in previous TITAN X)
Up to 60% faster performance than previous TITAN X
High performance engineering for maximum overclocking
12 GB of GDDR5X memory (480 GB/s)

Did we go too far? Your call. Just don’t call us crazy, or you might owe Brian a dollar, too. TITAN X will be available Aug. 2 for $1,200 direct from nvidia.com in North America and Europe, and select system builders. It is coming soon to Asia.

Easily solved - Titan X 2016 Edition. (not the first time nVidia has a new edition of an old product; they did it with the SHIELD (twice)).
 
$1200 Fucking Dollars? I used to have SAP written across my forehead and always bought the highest end GPU....Not so fast anymore....
 
I ran the numbers.

At specced boost, and assuming 96 ROPs - 23% in shading/calc, 50% in memory bandwidth and 32.5% in pixel pushing over 1080.

so 40% faster for 2x the price? yeah, sounds about right. With it's memory bandwidth and speed it'll make for a nice 1 card 4k gaming platform. But the pricing is fairy heavy.

Their marketing announcement wants me to never buy nvidia again however.

I think the fact it was announced with no fanfare, and at an AI event to boot, is a pretty good indication of why they don't give a shit that's its no cost effective for gamers :p
 
They claim up to 60% so i'll be a devil's advocate and say that maybe with some architecture fine tuning they eliminated bottlenecks, increasing efficiency in old constrained scenarios.

Architecture wise this is the same as gp104 exactly, maybe higher memory:SM ratio relieved memory bottleneck slightly. Where you getting 60%? I sincerely doubt it

Compared to SLI 1080s, it looks somewhat attractive.
 
I wonder if we do get a 1080ti if it'll be full die Pascal. I wonder if they are repeating the original Titan / 780ti. ;)
 
Oh yeah... been waiting for the new Titan X to show its face and am patiently waiting for [H] to review it.
 
Kyle, does [H] have one in hand yet? Just wondering how soon till we see some reviews :)
 
Right, but can it play Crysis?

Before I buy anything else in the 1000 series I'm going to have to see if a Ti is happening and what's happening with HMB2. I'm fine, my computer is fine. I will keep chanting that for now.

It says "..direct from Nvidia.."

So I am thinking it has a $200 "Founders Edition" fee tacked on. Here's hoping that that actual retail price is $999 from vendors like EVGA, ASUS, Zotac, etc.
 
Hopefully we'll get a hybrid cooler from EVGA or at least a bracket from somewhere else that works with it. The reference cooler was borderline on the 1080, it will definitely not be up to the task for this big boy.

Anandtech says that this Titan will not be sold by AIB partners this time around. You'll only be able to buy it from NVIDIA (which also means sales tax for everyone, god damn it...).

Meanwhile for distribution, making a departure from previous generations, the card is only being sold directly by NVIDIA through their website. The company’s board partners will not be distributing it, though system builders will still be able to include it.
 
So was this pretty unexpected to the whole crowd? If so, I wonder if AMD has a black ace up their sleeve now?? Although I highly doubt in this day and age with rumors, leaks, etc...

Secretly I guess I would just hope AMD waited for NVIDIA to show their trump card and now tweak whatever they have to match or superseed the green's team card.. Wishful thinking I know.. :D

Anything released this year for consumers is probably going to be GDDR5 or GDDR5X. We shouldn't care about HBM2. Remember when the R9 Fury X released with HBM1 and it was the fastest card on the planet? Yeah, me neither.
 
Funny, I wasn't expecting to see this until HBM2 rollout. Impressive specs though. Still, makes me wonder what they'll be able to do with HBM2. I'll continue to wait..

If the Titan doesn't have HBM, I kind of doubt that any Ti version will. Apparently, Nvidia thinks they've gotten one more round out of GDDR5.

Were there ever non-reference Titans before? I don't think I've ever seen one for sale. I agree with you that that price probably includes a $200 worth of Founders Edition markup, but I'm pretty skeptical that there will be a non-founders edition, since there hasn't ever been one before, and Nvidia has recently discovered the joy of selling cards directly to consumers.

I know, but I've already got a 1070(wasn't patient enough for the 1080, which didn't end up mattering, my card took FOREVER to ship) and I won't let myself have a reason to upgrade until I see HBM2. I'm certainly not holding out for the 10XX series, but maybe 11XX will see it and give me the slightest of reason to push the 1070 to the wife's computer.

All true, but like he said.. his computer is fine, he can wait presumably until next year. As can I.

I don't think anyone really had any illusions as to HBM1. I think everyone knew the transition wasn't going to be made from GDDR5 to HBM2 until gen 2 came along due to the limitations of gen 1.
 
I'm really starting to wonder whether or not there will be a 1080ti. I guess it all depends on AMD and if they release something faster than the 1080.

There were no custom boards, but EVGA sold the Maxwell Titan X with a custom BIOS and either a Hybrid cooler or water block. EVGA and Gigabyte also provided custom air coolers, the former being sold separately and the latter being included in the box. I have the EVGA ACX 2.0+ cooler on my Maxwell Titan X.

Let's settle on nomenclature now before it gets unwieldy and confusing

Maxwell Titan X: Mitan X
Pascal Titan X: Pitan X
