NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Does anyone know of any non-reference 1070's that fit, which don't have back plates on them? I'm trying to find a decent 1070 but have an SFX-L psu so anything with a back plate isn't going to work. Are the backplates generally cosmetic and safe to remove? Cheers.

I'm building in my Ncase m1 now and I've run into a bit of a problem. I took off the PSU bracket to install the motherboard and now when I try to put it back, the 2 middle screw holes are not centered and I have to force the screw in at an angle which doesn't really make it stable. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Fixed it, was a silly mistake lol

I would have gone for the model with the Quick Disconnect fitting, that would allow you to buy a full-cover GPU water cooling block from EK pre-filled with the same Quick Disconnect attached. THAT would allow you to just unhook one QD & patch in the GPU…!

At least in the non-QDC model the tubes are so long that there is no way to get it all inside so cutting them would defeat the purpose of QDC anyway. And refilling the thing is really not such a big deal, you have two holes on both sides of the rad which allow refillings it easily.

Hello everyone,

I have just finished 90% of my build and I have a few questions:
1) How do I get the dust filter to stay on the bottom using 1 92mm fan?
2) Why does the power button flash red randomly during use?
3) I currently have most of my wires running up and over the PSU so that they are zip tied to the top of the case and out of the way. Is this set up good/bad?
4) The LEDs on my motherboard and headphones are constantly on even when the system is fully powered down. WHY? (Asus Z170I Pro Gaming, HyperX Cloud II)
5) My CPU temps will jump up every once in a while during very low loads for reasons I cannot figure out. Like maybe 2 times in 20 min of using chrome and the temps of a core will jump from 26c to 55c and come back down. Do you think I messed up the thermal paste and should reapply? (NH-U9S)

Thank you for any help you guys can provide!

I can answer some of your questions...
1) not too sure. You may need some small machine screws and nuts.
2) I believe the power button is also a drive activity indicator
3) as long as the cables are not blocking any vents

I'll try to help as well.

1) Yes, get some small bolts and nuts. I'd add a lock washer to the nut so that the nut does not get loose from vibrations. Alternative: use the rubber anti-vibration mounting posts that come with some fans.
2) Yes, the power switch has both power and hard drive LEDs.
3) Sounds OK. How about a photo? this might be a useful idea for others.
4) It is normal for many motherboards to have an LED that stays on. It is from the 5V Standby from the power supply. Even when off, there is still some power from the PS in the motherboard. For your headphones, are they USB? I had a mouse that did this too. There was a jumper on my motherboard to disable the LED when the computer was powered off. Check you motherboard manual for a jumper or BIOS setting to disable this or try a different USB port.
5) No idea, unless there is some background task (File Indexing?) that is active periodically. Maybe anti-virus software? Maybe keep Task Manager open, click on the Processes tab (turn on "Show processes from all users), and then sort the listing by clicking on the CPU column header so that the most active process is at the top. Then when the CPU activity ramps up check to see what process is suddenly near the top of the list in Task Manager.

Hope this helps.

I just finished my build and have a problem with my Noctua U9B-SE2. The fans are always on almost 1500 rpm, I can't change the speed in the BIOS or in Fan Xpert 3 from Asus. This is the first non stock cooler I've installed so maybe I did something wrong lol

The NF-B9 is a 3-pin fan so it must be regulated by varying the voltage. A forum post at Tom's Hardware points to a webpage that apparently explains how to use Fan Xpert 2 to voltage control 3-pin fans in a video. I know you have a later version, but hopefully the method is similar. Good luck!

What do you guys think about sticking the gtx 1060 mini (evga sc) in the ncase m1. I was going to get the 1070, but the 1060 seems more like the price/performance ratio I was looking for. I would put a 92mm directly under the card...

I've seen several reports of that too, I seem to have gotten really lucky with my SF450. Not only is it quite but the fan actually seems to run the way it is supposed to, starts up during load but will shut itself down when idle.

hmm... my sf600 fan has never turned on.. even during furmark stress test.. i wonder if the fan on my psu even works?

I am also getting ready to get a 1070 but do to the fact that I am going to water cool it that limits my choices to either FE, MSI Aero or the Gigabyte G1 Gaming. I have a G1 Gaming motherboard so will probably go that route. The one card I would look at is the Gigabyte GTX 1070 Extreme Gaming.
It is a large card though.Width is 5.51 inches so it should just fit, the power connectors are offset and looks like they should work. It is also a thick card and you wouldn't be able to put any fans or drives below it. The interesting thing is the cooling. It has 3 fans but only the outer 2 blow in toward the heatsink, the middle blows down. Supposed to have improved cooling and it seems to work. I am curious how that would work in a M1, if the middle fan would help expel the heat out of the bottom. It also has 8+6pin power connectors and a healthy factory OC.

That is a nice card! But yeah im putting the accelero cooler on it so id feel bad going with that and just tear that cooler off, even though i would love the OC. Might just get the cheapest good card, like the aero

yeahhh it definitely should lol. my sf600 fan starts up about 5-10 min after boot no matter what im doing. it is silent after that though, i have never heard it while idle or load, my cpu and gpu are definitely louder

I can't honestly recall ever hearing my SF600 either. It rarely spins up but that may be due to having extra head room so the components don't require cooling very often.

I was reading reviews on them earlier, performance of a GTX 980 or R9 390X for much less. If you are gaming at 1080 will be a great card to have. Another nice thing is the EVGA is only 6.8" which would be perfect for people wanting to use a SFX-L PSU.

Dropped off my panels at the powder coaters. Also picked up my plexi for the window - things are coming together!

Can anyone tell me how much space there is between a 92mm fan in the rear position to the left sidepanel??

Cheers.

This one is for the german guys :D:

Anyone an idea, where to get a window for the side panel?

Regards from Munich

Case ordered several days ago. I didn't realize there were a few options for the M1. The 'steel fan bracket with magnetic filter' (#M1V4PFAN00, "Out of stock" $13.) Anyone get this, and it is for what specifically?... which fan?

Revision 5 of the M1 case has the side fan bracket made of steel and it comes with a single long mesh filter that attaches to the bracket using magnetic strips. This bracket and filter can be ordered separately to replace the previous version of the bracket and filters that came with earlier revisions of the M1 case.

I finished my build last night and I used a Noctua U9B-SE2 cooler. I totally forgot that I ordered a U9S as well, I need to return one lol. Should I switch out the U9B for the U9S or just keep the U9B? The U9B also came with 2 fans and the U9S has 1 fan.

Well the U9S is the newer product... I doubt it will have a huge impact on performance... It is really up to you. I think the 2 fan set up will most likely provide better temps, but you could always order a second fan for the u9s and then that would win the temp competition.

Would I be able to control the fan speed on the U9S via the Bios or Fan Xpert? Only way to do it with the U9B is to change the voltage.

I checked and the fan does spin when the PC powers up, so I guess it the PSU temps are staying under the fan limit.. will run some more CPU and GPU stress test to see if I can get it to spin... my CPU temps are at 58C under x264 stability test and GPU is at 51C under CPU core burner v2 (Furry donut)

The Silverstone SX700-LPT PSU has a 120mm fan, ample power and stats, and a 80+ Platinum rating.

But it is the larger 'L' style of the SX PSU's... In what ways would/might this limit me in terms of components placement in the M1?

She's alive. Loving the new setup. Just waiting on Bitspower block then will be going watercooling.

Where has gone the vadal switch? Waiting for a shorter one?
Which size (diameter) are you getting btw? Looks like the smaller with illuminating ring is 16mm, I would have prefered 12 or 14mm.
EDIT: find some 12mm on Ali, no black ones yet though
EDIT 2: 12mm black found! But with a red ring, still searching for a white ring led

On another hand, is it me or do you guys also only see the top of the pictures in these imgur albums?

You can see in this image, the power connectors on SFX-L will push down on larger graphic cards causing them to sag.

Was getting the same thing, if you click on the Imgur in the upper left corner it will take you to the Imgur page.
