Help ASUS z170 deluxe wifi gone

Hope someone can help.

I have the Asus z170 deluxe mb. Been working just fine now for 2 months. Turned it on last night all of the sudden there is no wireless connectivity.

I tried trouble shooting etc. nothing. Tried reinstalling drivers. Cmd comes on and says installing drivers for a couple of seconds and just closes and nothing happens. I tried reinstalling Windows, same thing. I don't think it appears in device manager anymore all I see is Ethernet and some other stuff. What could be the problem, does anyone know?
 
Have you checked your bio settings? I have this same mobo but I don't use the wireless. Bios is the only thing I can think of right off the top of my head. I hope you aren't headed to RMA hell.

I skimmed BIOS settings, everything seemed fine. I shipped my mb for RMA, and already I don't like it. I paid for 2 day priority shipping. USPS tried to deliver yesterday and I got an update saying business closed, will try again next delivery day that the business is open. What. The. Fuck. I called Asus and ask why would they be closed, only answer I got was don't worry when they try again all will be ok. Good start.
 
I had the same problem with a Hero Alpha Z170. I too rma'd it but the replacement did the same thing. What temporarily fixed it for me is that I had to disable the WiFi in bios, boot into Windows then restart, re-enable it in the bios and Windows would finally pick it back up. Got tired of fooling with that and various sleep issues so I kicked that board to the curb.
 
Update to whoever may care. I'm getting the mb back from them Wednesday, the website does not state if it was fixed or what was fixed. Maybe it will have a report in the box. The process went pretty smooth I guess, hopefully it's the same mb I sent because it was less than a month old. I hope I don't get some dust filled repaired one they had laying around. (btw does anyone know if you get back the actual item you sent in or is it a different one?) Anyway I'll update again once I get it a test it.

Got the same board back. SAME EFING PROBLEM. They didn't fix any fucking thing.
Welcome to the Asus Warranty Experience. Right now would be a good time to check the board over for any damage Asus' esteemed RMA technicians caused when they "repaired" it. No, I'm not joking. Carefully examine the socket for any bent pins, Asus is infamous for destroying their customer's CPU sockets.

You may not want to hear this, but the only way to get Asus to honor their warranty is to reach out to customer service reps via twitter, Facebook and hardware forums such as this one.
No idea how to do that... =/
Download a Linux ISO such as Mint or Ubuntu, use Rufus to create a bootable USB stick then boot from it. If the WiFi works from the bootable USB stick, you know the problem lies in Windows, the Asus WiFi driver or a third-party program that's interfering. If the WiFi doesn't work from the bootable USB, you know there's a hardware problem.

Im going to call them tomorrow and give them hell.
Ill give this a shot to help narrow it down a bit

ok so i installed ubuntu, I dont see wifi anywhere. is there a way to check besides network settings?

Your mobo's on-board WiFi uses the Broadcom BCM4360 chipset, which is not nativley supported under Linux, sadly.

Testing it out under Linux would require using a wrapper, which can be a convoluted and buggy process. I wouldn't bother with it.

You said you tried it with a clean install of Windows, and it still didn't work. That fact combined with Asus' world-renowned shitty warranty service and general incompetence would leave me to believe your on-board WiFi is defective, and it will take an act of God to get Asus to fix it.

Wow wifi is the only reason I bought this thing. If I cant get them to fix it do you know if I can just buy this wifi chip and replace it myself? from the looks of it, the casing for the wifi is screwed on to the motherboard so I may be able to remove it and just replace it.
 
So i unscrewed the part and this is what i found. So if they wont fix it I may just be able to buy this thing on amazon and try that way. I just need to figure out how to open the casing and hope that its the actual chipset that is dead and not the slot it goes into. I wonder how I can test that.

Sorry to hear that but honestly not surprised. If my Asus board dies I'll probably just throw it away versus dealing with their support.
 
I would disable the on-board Wi-Fi and buy a card or usb Wi-Fi dongle and move on.
 
Sad to hear tat bro since, ASUS for me is one of the best MB manufactures in the world. After tried everything and even after RMA you still having this issue I would change to another model or like our friend above said, just disable it and but a pci-e one.

Thanks man, I really like the mb too. I like their products a lot. I already sent it back and this time it's been on "repair in progress" for two days unlike the first time it was on that status for like half a day and shipped back to me. Realistically the status does not mean anything but it makes me feel hopeful this time around.

Its their choice to repair or replace. Everyone else covered the basics earlier. Just a FYI there are many experiences here on the forum of people sending a item in multiple times and it never being repaired.

I switched from Asus to Gigabyte for my motherboards. Asus makes a solid product generally, but their customer service horror stories put me off.

Yeah the company they outsourced for RMA seems to not care at all. Idk how ASUS is ok with that but whatever. The only thing I got this board for (Wifi) went dead. Ironic huh. This being my first build, it left a bad taste about ASUS for future builds. If this second time does not work, I will call them again and ask for a new product, if that leads nowhere then I will just buy a pci-e wifi card and call it a day.
 
For anyone interested. Well turns out the wifi card was dead all along. I bought one on amazon just to test and see if I could deduce whether it was the card or the slot that was dead. Thank god it was just the card and not the slot. In regards to Asus, they submitted a stock check to send me replacement. I will call and cancel tomorrow and see if They can send me a wifi card (idk if they do that), and I can return this to amazon.
 
Once sent back a fried ASUS board for RMA and put a tiny mark on the board with a Sharpie. This was the second RMA for the same issue hence the mark. They sent back a "replacement" board that oddly enough had a Sharpie mark in the same place :rolleyes: And of course the board was still dead.

I pray my ASUS GPU never dies.

Wow, their service is complete shit. I've come to the conclusion to just try and fix yourself or just buy a new one. Although just buying a new one isn't an option for many
