According to this update, all Oculus Rift pre-orders have now shipped. Last time we checked, a lot of you guys were still waiting on your units to ship so I want to make sure all of you have your orders.

All Rift pre-orders have now shipped, and new Rift orders from Oculus.com are shipping within 2 to 4 business days. If you have any questions about existing orders or your current shipment status, please reach out to us here. We want to apologize for the delays in getting Rifts to doorsteps. We appreciate that without your support, VR wouldn’t be where it is today. Thank you for your patience over the past few months.

Wait... so I could have waited for my PREORDER until today? OR purchased it on Amazon weeks ago?

HUmm... good job facebook!

I've heard that the Oculus feels less immersive with the xbox controller, but the touch controllers are supposed to come out this year.

I put my order in Sunday night and it shipped Monday afternoon so it seems they are back on track.

The problem with the Vive, as cool as room space is, it doesn't have many "real" games. 90% of the Vive's content are closer to tech demos. While I haven't used Oculus' Touch controllers I have used the Vive's and outside of the motion tracking (which was flawless) I don't think they were that great. I gambled with the Oculus because the Touch controllers look like they will be much better for the type of games I want to play and I'm willing to wait a few more months for them. I also don't think we will see a lot of full roomspace games. I think most true VR experiences will fall somewhere in the middle which is something the Oculus will be able to do since the Touch controllers come with a second sensor.

you can play rift games on the vive. Revive: GitHub - LibreVR/Revive: Play Oculus exclusive games on the HTC Vive, scroll down for downloads and installation instructions. Please forward all donations to the EFF.

I need a new card to use VR, but since there are not that many great games for either headset yet I am willing to wait for better cards and lower VR headset prices.

I know all about it, I've been following VR for almost 4 years now and have done a shitload of research. Besides, I prefer not to have to use a work around every time I play a game and I still think that the Oculus Touch will be a better experience in the long run which is the primary reason I chose the Oculus.

I've tried the Vive and it's fucking awesome. I would love to try the Oculus but not until they get the Touch controllers out...the real-space controllers are a HUGE game-changer.

So I pre-ordered a couple of hours after they opened, and it would only have shipped a couple of weeks before the "last" preorders? If I hadn't cancelled it, that is. Anyway I'm glad I did, Oculus's ineptitude, not to mention the ongoing and mind-boggling lack of touch controllers, means I'll skip the Rift and wait for the next round instead. Maybe that will mean Rift CV2, maybe it won't. But with a Vive I'm not missing out on anything important this generation.

I hear everyone say that and while I believe it, it's simply not an option for a lot of folks. Technically I could do it if I set up the Vive in my living room but that would mean I'd be lugging my 60lbs (estimated) computer out to the living room every single time I wanted to play games. My computer room simply lacks the free space for it. If the computer room was empty I might be able too, but that isn't happening. So if I'm going to just play sit down VR games anyway, might as well save $200 and get the Rift. Or maybe I'll wait for PSVR and see how that turns out. Moving the PS4 around would be easier.

Edit: Had the wrong price for the Rift.

Even owning both the Rift and Vive, the Rift gets far more general use. It's dramatically faster to set up (your put it on. SteamVR is inevitably a faff, and the Lighthouse basestations take some time to spin up) and there's just a lot more to actually do with it beyond tech demos (about half of which are crouch-shooters with different enemy skins).

I dont care if the Vive is inferior (its not), I will still get it.

No way in fucking hell that I would help Oculus get any traction, which would then allow them to try and lock the market again.

fuck them.

The Oculus blind fanbois did!

LOL.

In all seriousnes, it does pisses me off how people would continue supporting a company that clearly has all the intentions in playing dirty and locking down the market, giving us less options.

Yeah, i see your point. However, i also understand them wanting to protect their ip, also have an ecosystem that is console like in functionality and quality, once the PC hardware specs are met. Not to say the Vive is not quality, but for me, its kind of like people wanting to play xbox1 games on a PS4, both have exclusive titles, its just us PC gamers are not used to being told NO. Oculus wants the Rift to be its own platform, not just a PC powered HMD.

I'm looking for v.2 on this hardware, still to early, ..still too expensive!

Me, too. It looks excellent, but I'm going to do a PC upgrade first. I've been waiting for VR, and I want it soon. But, I want a good experience, so I need a good PC. I've been looking for a reason to upgrade. Hopefully, v.2 comes within a year or so. Or at least more refined hardware with v.1.

Why would anyone get the OR over the Vive? The Vive just seems like an all around better product and is supplied by a better company.

If someone isn't planning to use the room scale features of the Vive I don't really think it's worth the extra $200. That's just my thoughts though.

Have you used either of them?

The Oculus is more comfortable, has slightly better optics and a better selection of games without having to jump through hoops. The fact that it's getting motion controls sometime in the next few months means that the Vive's roomscale games will also be playable on the Rift soon enough. As has been said numerous times by numerous people not everyone wants to play roomscale demos, they want actual story driven video games. As nice as room scale is the games I want to play are on the Oculus, period.

Rift + Touch > Vive

Means nothing until Touch is released and reviewed.

I Cancelled my Oculus pre-order in June, I just couldn't stick with it anymore, first its facebook with all their facebook shenanigans and privacy issues, second they set the launch date and completely missed it, third they started selling on amazon and best buy without completing the pre-orders, they locked the store, no steam support, and lastly touch is still a mythical device with no solid launch date.

I have a DK2, I miss the potential of the Oculus but to be blinded by what could have been and gloss over what they actually are is stupid. This is not the same company anymore, and the Vive is a superior product today period. Steam, motion controls, option of room scale or seated play, no facebook garbage, better manufacturing/shipping/communication, I'm quite happy.

Don't get me wrong.. Vive is almost as good, but Rift is more polished. Vive rushed out to beat them to market. The fact that one product can ship faster to me doesn't make it better. Vive is more open which is definitely huge, and I admire people that are supporting them for that. It will push Oculus to be more open as well (it already has).

I really believe Oculus and Microsoft are teaming up, next xbox (scorpio) will be Rift compatable, and that will bring VR games into the main stream.

So? It won't prevent facebook shenanigans which is half the reason to hate Oculus, the other half is their terrible customer support and awful launch, and that launch was really, really bad. A polished turd is still a turd.

It isn't about shipping faster, it is literally about pre-orders starting January, for a end of march launch that didn't even have the supply to get Rifts to original backers, let alone pre-orders. Prior to cancelling my Rift my ETA was last week, and I ordered 25 minutes after pre-orders started. Then they turn around and start selling hardware on the street (Amazon & Best Buy) prior to honoring Pre-Orders. This is the company you are relying on to treat you fairly as a customer.

*Edit, the launch date at end of march, was not set by anyone other than Oculus, they bare full responsibility for it.

Add to that, Vive will always be the more open system to content providers, and when it comes to entertainment, the open systems always beat the closed ones.

I wish I could like Oculus, as I said, I have a DK2, had a DK1, and love(d) using them, but I cannot support the company Oculus has become, maybe they will change, but Facebook means no.

I just see a healthy competition here. If another company comes in and destroys Oculus, leaving Facebook/Microsoft out of VR entirely, that would be fine with me :D

More than anything I just hope we get to see more quality games soon. A truly killer app, possibly a Valve HL-related title...

Owning a Vive, I can tell you guys, Room Scale VR combined with TRUE motion controls is NOT a trivial thing! Don't have room for it? MAKE ROOM! Seriously, once you try it, you will want to rearrange your furniture to accommodate it...or move your PC from the bedroom to the living room. It really is THAT good and it IS a "BIG DEAL"! THIS is VR how it's supposed to be. Not a seated or stationary experience, but being able to move around in the virtual world is KEY to real immersion!

As for the guy complaining about "no real games"...there are PLENTY of "real games" available for the Vive! Over 250 at last count on Steam...AND with "ReVive", you can play most of the Oculus "exclusive" titles as well! (I don't, I refuse to install their spyware, or support Oculus in any way, shape or form! But that's just me). So called "AAA" titles are coming, with Ubisoft in particular investing HEAVILY into VR with Star Trek Bridge Crew and Eagle Flight coming this fall. Other studios will follow suit...but remember, it's early days here! As more people buy headsets, more companies will start developing titles. PSVR will be a BIG driver of this...and once they have a PSVR version of a game made, porting that to either Oculus or Vive will be fairly trivial. Give it time! In the meantime, there is PLENTY to keep you occupied...as long as you have an open mind!

I'm not as emo as most people, so a new company taking longer to ship something wasn't an issue for me. I always buy the best product and after much research, I decided the Rift was better. Not by a whole lot, but still better.

Ahh, that makes sense, a monopolist wannabe teaming up with a monopoly owner, so it can learn the trade better.

Yeah, not, not supporting that, fuck them.

Wouldn't Microsoft have to develop their own headset that didn't work with anything else to be considered monopolistic? #Sony
Consoles are were some of the worse anti competitive BS goes down.

No matter what side you're on.. You shouldn't want any company to fail at this point. Vive owners have more content because Oculus exists.. and vise versa.

I thought thats what the hololens was?

There's a few reasons for teaming with oculus. Development time, sony beat them to the VR punch, they do not have time to develop a proprietary HMD.
Windows 10 platform, i really believe they want to have a multi-platform ecosystem, instead of a single console.
Some big moves going on in the VR arena. Samsung, MS, AMD and Oculus could be colluding to combat steam and sony.
